A list of puns related to "International Taekwon Do Federation"
Hi there, I recently subscribed to this thread and began reading what's here in my down time. I am a martial arts nut and have been doing Martial Arts since I was 3 years old. Always willing to learn and observe different martial arts. I have done Northern Shaolin (5 years), TKD(8 years) and Wing Chun(currently studying at least 2 years). Although I have a black belt 3rd DAN, I will humbly say I feel like my skill level at the time was somewhere between a 1st-2nd DAN because my instructor went McDojo on me. (He was a great instructor when I started but as the years went on and the money started rolling in, he slowly changed).
When I read a post on this subreddit regarding TKD history and found it different from what I was taught and know. Feel free to contribute and advise additional information. I only know of 3 Federations but only 2 that are official and widely recognized.
TKD Brief Background
The founder of TKD is from Choi Hong Hi, A.K.A. General Choi. Combing elements of Taekkyeon and Shotokan Karate, he develops a martial art that he called "Taekwon-Do". Later in life, he took his martial abroad with the intention of promoting and teaching TKD to anyone and everyone who is willing to learn. In 1972, Choi went into exile in Canada. From what I told, the South Korean did not like the idea of General Choi teaching TKD to foreigners leading to this exile. (Will need to do more research for fact check). He lived in Toronto until his death in North Korea in 2002.
"Official" Federations:
ITF (International TKD Federation) - the original and purest form of TKD as intended by General Choi. From observation, this form of TKD is very similar to Karate in that the execution of forms are more hard and rigid.
WTF (World TKD Federation) - when General Choi was exiled. He left along with many senior students. The South Korean government, essentially took the students that were left and created their own federation with this group of students. Their emphasis seems to be on kicking techniques more.
Independent Federations:
GTF (Global TKD Federation) - Park Jung Tae, one of the 12 original masters of TKD, left the ITF and created his own federation after a political fallout during the North-South Korean. A pioneer of spreading TKD in Canada. Style is more rhythmic, with emphasis of how movements should "flow" together seamlessly making combat more "fluid". Park Jung Tae also created six additional hyung to be practised along with the earlier

When did the ITF change the ranking system from the 8 colour belt levels listed in General Choi's 1965 textbook, to the 10 colour belt levels used now?
I just registered for taekwon-do today at my old dojang!
It's been a while since I thought about coming back, but watching Cobra Kai inspired me to put the dobuk on again.
I went to my first class in nearly a decade 2 months ago, then I went there again yesterday.....
It convinced me that there was a taeguek shaped hole in my heart, that could only be filled with TKD...
I then went to my ITF school and re-registered.
I'm starting my first regular class next week.
Tae-kwon!
I know this isn't a very well known league, but it has been gaining some traction and I personally really like the league. I think it will need to adapt as more elite level athletes get interested (as the adult division doesn't currently have amateur and pro), but it is a very good league to get in to. Each competition has a speed and endurance course over two days, and you get two attempts at the speed course. A completion gets your ticket punched to World Finals in New York for the event your completed, but if you fail to complete a course, you still accumulate points for every obstacle completed. If you get enough points throughout the season you can still earn a spot in the World Finals.
Their website has more details about the league. I'm curious if anyone else has competed in fina, or plans to, and what thoughts you have.
Yesterday he arrived to Minsk, met with dictator Lukashenko.

He looks very happy to greet person, who's gave orders to detain and torture over 30000 people since August 2020 and kill of some of them.
After that Rene Fasel met with chairman of Belarusian Hockey Federation Dzmitry Baskov, assigned by Lukashenko, who personally took part in murdering of one of the protesters Roman Bondarenko and was already put on sanction list by International Olympic Committee (IOC) and barred from all sport events, plus banned from entering EU. Fasel took selfie with Baskov too.

There's outrage on IIHF social accounts, they even had to turn off the comments. Huge scandal is cooking, while Lukashenko orders to jail and torture thousand people, including citizen of Switzerland (https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/k8gcu1/swiss_citizen_arrested_at_the_protest_in_belarus/) Rene Fasel supports him.
What's your opinion on all this?

So I've been doing taekwon do for about a year and managed to get to green tag belt. But after the corona hit it shut down. Martial arts near where I live have been shut down till next year. I've been wanting to start taekwon do again fir a long time . Any advice on how to keep on practicing it and learn new kicks and patterns.
Folks, somehow when I first encountered this community I did not see the links in the sidebar titled "New to ADHD?" when u go to r/ADHD.
The third one is very good.
The article is detailed, scientific and long. It doesn't sum things up in a paragraph. It requires you to read it. However, I went to the specific sections that were interesting to me and it really was enlightening.
I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid, but now I'm not sure I even have ADHD after reading it.
In any case, I just wanted to recommend everyone who hasn't read it yet to do so. It was eye opening for me.
