A list of puns related to "Gothic Metal"
I'd like to purchase some gothic style cups as gifts (not necessarily Christmas) for my Dungeons & Dragons group for when we play as I think they'd like that.
I was wondering if there are any thrift shops or other stores local to or around the Lancaster County area that I could find these?
Any help will be appreciated, thank you!
Note: I would like to avoid actual d&d branded cups (which I know I can find at GameStop, for example.) They're cool and all, but that's not really what I'm looking for.
I already know Virgin Black and Mourning Sun btw, doom with some background chanting and dark classical instruments/piano would be interesting, with vocals IF possible, any subgenre, heheh, cheers.
Hi everyone!
I hope this kind of post is allowed here. I'm doing a little project where I go to different subreddits of music genres and I ask the members what the best album of that genre is. After this, I listen to the album that got the most upvotes after 24 hours and write my thoughts about it (I will write this as a comment under this one, so if you want to read it, make sure to check back in 2-3 days. This won't be a professional review btw. I don't know anything about music theory so it's just gonna be the thoughts of a random guy). The list I'm following is Wikipedia's list of the most popular music genres in a randomized order. I'm planning to listen to one album per day and this time the genre is Gothic Metal. So please recommend me an album in the comments. It could be the best one in your opinion, your personal favourite, or the album that best represents this genre according to you, but please, only submit one album. If you submit more than one in your comment, it won't count (If you really want to submit more, do it in separate comments). LPs are preferred, but EPs and mixtapes are also acceptable, even compilations and live albums if they're not too long. I am a metal head but I don't know too much about this genre, so I'm essentially going in blind.
This is the 282nd day of me doing this. If you want to see what the previous days were, check out my post history.
Thanks to anyone who recommends an album.
TL;DR: I listen to a new genre every day, so recommend me one album and I'll listen to the most upvoted one and write my thoughts about it later.
PROVE ME WRONG by posting your best (only one) album .
When I asked the singer, why they would call themselves after the exact thing, that they are up against, she told me:
>"As for Draconian, I personally hate what the name stands for, but strangely our message goes against all things Draconian and more towards the cosmic and gnostic these days. We're well aware of the Archonic influence on this world and if you think about it, it's an 'f you' to the Draconians to have a name like this while giving a different message."
This whole thing is an epic journey through sadness, despair and hope, while giving off this defiant vibe of "FUCK YOU, ARCHONS! OUR KNEES WONT BEND BEFORE YOU!"
..like listen to this:
"Our knees won't bend
Our hands won't fold
We've sworn dissent
upon your Father
I am the Sethian
I am the Sethian
I am the Sethian
And you forget your god is a demon
I bleed in the lies you are preaching
The world is dreaming
Your god is a demon
And mine is a mountain
of souls' screaming
The world is dreaming
Your god is a demon
And mine is a mountain
of souls' screaming"
I mean.. woah!
"Sophia is forgiven
The mother of our prison
Sophia is glistening
Always weeping for the world
She's apprehension
And her eyes torn by guilt
And we have these souls
And through her we are ascension
The grandeur of stillness
And all of her sadness"
..It's not a very unknown band either! these songs have 500k and 800k views! Even if not everyone obvioulsy will get the message, those who are into lyrics and want to dig deeper into the meaning, will arrive exactly here. All darkness comes to light, in parts thanks to bands like Draconian!
Do you know any other bands that deal with such themes?
Some people call it epic or operatic, male singers if possible, this are examples of the approximate vibe i mean:
The 3rd and the Mortal Artrosis Asp Asrai Askara Ava Inferi Beseech Blackthorn Bloodflowerz Charon Chelsea Wolfe Cradle of Filth The Crest Dark the Suns Dakrya Delight Draconian Dreadful Shadows Dreams of Sanity Edenian Elis Entwine Evanescence Fields of Nephilim Flowing Tears Garden of Delight Isiphilon Immortal Angelica Lacrimas Profundere Lacrimosa Lacuna Coil Mandragora Scream Moi Dix Mois Moonspell Mortal Love My Dying Bride Noturna Paradise Lost Paramaecium Penumbra Sellisternium Seraphim Shock The Sins of thy Beloved Sirenia Tales of Dark To/Die/For Tiamat Theatre of Tragedy Theatre des Vampires Trail of Tears Trees of Eternity Tristania (Vibeke Stene forever) Type o Negative Yosei Teikoku
I don't know where exactly to ask this, hah, i mean DEATH or DOOM heavy weight style, does this even exist?, that's all, cheers.
I hope this is not to vague. I cant remember that song, i saw it on a ultimate-guitar list, but i strangely cant find it in my browser history; maybe they deleted that list. The song had an epic chorus which i could identify, but i cant remember any melodies. What i still know about it:
-female singer
-chorus was kinda slow; in 3/4 or 6/8 time
-the singer sang in a relatively low vocal register in the chorus
-it had an official music video, so i guess its no completely obscure song
I would appreciate help :) Iam not very familiar with these subgenres of metal.
Edit: I remembered something, while searching myself: I think, the verse was mostly a man growling/shouting while the chorus like i described it. So it must have been two singers.
I have downloaded subj as untagged mp3 in late 90s or early 2000s, likely from a subculture site, but I don't remember for sure. It's been in all my playlists till I lost it to hard drive failure in late 2000s. That was unfortunate, because the song is really catchy and charming in its own earnest, albeit slightly cringy way.
The style is either on heavier side of gothic rock or lighter side of gothic metal, think Sisters of Mercy, Mission, Fields of Nephilim. Vocals are low-ish, stoic and detached, similar to all 3. I (mis)remember large chunks of lyrics, but my searches across traditional engines and sites like songsearch over the years returned nothing. This is my first attempt to find it via forum post. Here's what I remember, possibly chorus:
?Suffer?
?Silence?
?Lose every sense?
Secret lies in twisted shadows
Hidden from our mortal souls
Life and death will seem so shallow
In a game that has no goal
The river of life still flows
Hi all , looking for anyone who would be interested in joining a gothic rock / doom metal inspired band , we are looking for vocals and keys and sonically are looking at something in the vain of ghost / candlemass / type o negative ! If you are interested in joining please feel free to message me !
Came out sometime mid 2010s, more of an indie band. I was linked to it once several years ago and I can't seem to find it. I want to appreciate it with bassist ears now. It wasn't proggy or anything, it kinda just seemed out of place tbh.
So, last week it started raining in my area and the rain is forecast to last through next week, and I was wondering if anyone had any go-to music for rainy weather.
I often associate the rain with bands like Elis, Mortal Love, Artrosis, The Crest, and Darkwell because when I was in high school I started using Pandora a lot, and these artists would play a lot when I'd walk home from school in the fall/winter.
Samples (some of the actual songs I'd hear a lot):
Elis - Are You Missing Me?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhWoRbw34ws
Mortal Love - Sanity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVBsygQbOVE
Artrosis - Unreal Story II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-7xYuPc0go&list=PLaWv5-CAhrUKpm1REwzQz6a_bcXtU2T2F&index=2
The Crest - Silent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSMYhe9PwLU
Darkwell - Blackheart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OjhvLw-RXA&list=OLAK5uy_nPGue0FZ7a8ZrNS4MdjkAK6INo3QI1Qs0&index=2
Edit: clarification, this isn't so much of a recommendation-seeking post so much as it is a discussion post. I just wanna hear what people associate with the rain musically. :)
Samsas Traum is a German Black Metal project from Alexander Kaschte, who writes/records the songs him self and hires musicians for live performances.
TLDR: I think it's ok to listen to, but you should avoid the album "Poesie: Friedrichs Geschichte" for general consumption and only recommend the band with a disclaimer, see below for why.
Kaschte distanced him self from "right-wing radicalism" and said that Vargs politics are "complete nonsense".
He released an album, "Poesie: Friedrichs Geschichte", about the Euthanasia in the Nazi killing facility Hadamar from the perspective of a disabled boy Richard, which is being ostracized, abused and (probably) killed. It educates the listener about the gruesome crimes that happened at the time, by having some songs portray the disgusting indoctrinated believes of the Nazis and others show the impact of those on Richard.
He also posted a LGBTQ supporting Facebook posts with a pride flag.
The Song "Heiliges Herz - Das Schwert deiner Sonne" was a "tribute to Burzum's music".
Some songs from "Poesie: Friedrichs Geschichte", especially "Sauber", are on their own politically ambiguous, and you can't tell if this is either extreme NSBM or if this is meant to cause disbelieve and disgust towards the views conveyed in the music. If you listen to the full album, it's very clear that this isn't NSBM, but imagine my surprise when Spotify recommended me a song containing sentences like "For the Fรผhrer and the Fatherland, the purity of German kin..." before I knew about the Album.
Another song (which isn't it, the album mentioned above) contains a German derogatory term for POCs. It's not on the level of the n-word, heck there are still many streets names that contain it in the present, but is still considered derogatory. The Song was released in 2004 and the secretory discussion about the word only started to become prominent around that time. Although they did perform the uncensored song live in 2020, which is imho quite insensitive.
