A list of puns related to "Godzilla, King Of The Monsters!"
In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, when they deployed the Oxygen Destroyer Missile wouldnβt that have turned all of that water into just hydrogen, causing a mass displacement of water therefore causing giant waves to be created? I know it's just a movie but I got to thinking about it.
SPOILERS!!!
So at the end of G:KOTM, all the monsters (or Titans as they're called) are released from they're imprisonment by Monarch. This obviously creates a huge issue for Monarch and the rest of the world, now instead of one Titan running around (Godzilla) to multiple Titans running around.
Well, I believe this issue can be solved and I think it'll be a good way for Monarch to continue the research of Titans, while also keeping them contained.
I think the Monsterverse will introduce a classic Godzilla location called Monster Island.
For those of you who don't know, Monster Island is.... Exactly what it sounds like, an entire island inhabited by monsters. Monster Island has appeared in several Godzilla movies such as Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs Gigan and a version of it appears in Destroy all Monsters, although that was called Monster Land.
So I'm going to go over the reason why Monster Island could solve the problem that was left after the events of G:KOTM.
In KOTM, Monarch wants to study these creatures and believes that Godzilla is the natural balance, which means loosing them could create chaos to a level we cannot imagine, but the government believes that these creatures are a menace and need to be stopped. An island that can contain these monsters while also letting them roam, WHILE also allowing Monarch to study them and at the same time not letting them tare down buildings can be the answer to resolving this conflict.
It also helps that Godzilla's resting place got nuked soooo.... Yeah
Which also brings up the question of, what island can be Monster Island in the Monsterverse?
Well, what about Skull Island? It's already a Monster Island and the creatures MOSTLY roam peacefully. It can also be the reason why Godzilla and Kong can hate each other in the movie (Godzilla vs Kong). I mean we learn from this movie that two Kings in conflict doesn't really work. And also, if the rumor that Godzilla will win the battle and that Kong will most likely die, maybe not in the hands of Godzilla, but in the hands of another monster, (hopefully Destoroyah) then Godzilla will take on the rein of protector of Skull Island, now being renamed Monster Island.
I have to admit that the "Skull Island will become Monster Island in the Monsterverse" is not my own theory. Multiple people have already speculated and theorized this, I'm just giving my own take on it.
We all know this sub doesn't know why movies do well or why they do bad sometimes. So let me add to that tradition by giving my amateur opinion. I think it is that the marketing focusing so much on the monsters instead of characters. In contrary what Godzilla fans would like to believe, the general audience needs human characters to root for in these films. The trailers didn't tell us anything about the humans in this film. Focus was put squarely on the monsters. In the trailers for the first film, a huge focus was put on the human characters and the actually impact that these monsters had on people were.
That's just my opinion so what's yours?
So this has been bugging me for a while so I finally decided to post my observations here.
In Dante's Inferno, Lucifer/Satan is depicted as three faced winged monstrosity that fell to Earth and now resides in the resulting crater (Hell), trapped by the ice formed by the fridged winds caused by it's futile and unending attempt to fly away.
In Godzilla: KoTM, King Ghidorah is a three headed winged monstrosity that came to earth and was imprisoned in ice after being defeated by Godzilla. As it flies it causes hurricanes and other changes to the climate.
In Christianity, Lucifer is often associated with lightning/lightning bolts.
In KoTM, KG's primary attacks in him spewing lightning.
In paradise lost, Satan plans to cause the down fall of humanity by tricking Eve into thinking that eating the forbidden fruit will be an ultimate good, but in the process of leaving Hell, Satan casts open the gates of Pandemonium, leaving them never to be closed again, allowing evil to leave at any time.
In KoTM, Emma believes that realising the Kaiju on the earth with restore some kind of lost natural order, but releases KG as well, an unnatural and evil creature that seeks to destroy the world and any semblance of balance. As a direct result of the events in KoTM, the titans are unlicensed and are now a permanent fixture in "our" world.
Oh there's also the "Godzilla is God" and "Mothra is Jesus" stuff but that's just way too on the nose for my liking.
Just got out of a screening, and aside from the great kaiju fights it has a very SCP-styled plot: itβs basically about the Foundation (Monarch in the film) dealing with worldwide containment breaches caused by rival GOI raids, and their efforts to prevent an SK-class dominance shift scenario. While stories like this arenβt all that uncommon itβs interesting to think of it as an SCP-Godzilla crossover. Itβs a lot of fun.
About three weeks in and the film sits at $303 million worldwide. How much more life do you think there is left in its theatrical run? Will it crawl to profitability before it leaves theaters or, if not, manage to get itself out of the red with home media? Best case scenario I see at the moment is $115 million US + $40 million JAPAN + $140 CHINA for $295 million without other markets. What is the likelihood of the rest of international market pushing it to the $465+ million needed to cover its $185 million production costs and $100 million in promotion?
