A list of puns related to "Goat's Rue"
I was unsuccessful in breastfeeding my first child, for multiple reasons. Pregnant with #2. I've just learned about goats rue, and that supposedly it can help you actually grow more breast tissues! π±
Anyone have experience with this?
Looking into herbal supplements safety during pregnancy is difficult for ethical reasons. The testing doesn't exist. I'm looking for folks with personal experience, or stories from people you know.

Description and Lore
Goat's Rue is a herbaceous flowering perennial, found originally in the Middle East but which has spread naturally to continental Europe, Western Asia, Western Pakistan and is occasionally found in India. It has ben introduced to Western South America and North America, specifically Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, the United States and Southern Canada.
It generally grows to be about a metre tall, with many stems appearing from the same root cluster. It branches well, with smooth unwooded stems (thus making it a botanical herb), and bears moderately sized pinnate leaves. The leaves are lance-shaped, generally equal length along most of their length, about 1.5 - 4cm long depending on age, and have 6 - 8 pairs of leaflets per cluster along the stems. The leaflets are a bright green, though they can darken with age.
Goat's Rue flowers in the summer months, between mid- and late-summer typically, and produces large, pale pink, white or lilac flowers. The flowers are reminiscent of foxgloves, and as such are inverted simple racemes. Generally, the flowers are not reported to have a scent unless bruised, at which point they produce an"unpleasant smell".
It tastes bitter when the leaves are chewed raw, however this is inadvisable because Goat's Rue is toxic in high doses. Whilst originally introduced to most locations as a foraging plant and a feed plant, it was found to produce a toxin that makes it risky to give to animals. Always keep an unused sample of whatever herbs you have been using recently in case of poisoning. This is important, and allows poison experts or paramedics/EMTs to identify the toxin affecting you and treat you faster.
Symptoms are most severe in ruminants, but humans can experience all symptoms of Goat's Rue poisoning.
Fresh Goat's Rue is toxic - it can cause the following, so please be on the look out for these symptoms:

... keep reading on reddit β‘Has anyone else taken these herbal suppliments? I'm sort of putting all my eggs in one basket as I have supply problems and can't take domperidone due to cholistasis during pregnancy. boo!
I would love to hear other's experiances with this herb. It come's highly recommended by the breastfeeding store here is town. I was taking Fenugreeek powder capsules - about 10 per day but didn't see any improvement. I get more of a noticable increase from drinking more water.
So far I nurse but have to suppliment 3 or so times per day because she feeds but then is clearly still hungry and just cries. I would love to get her off the formula but it breaks my heart to see her screaming her head off. if i just try to nurse longer, she gets frustrated because I suspect there is no milk coming out.
I do pump and get 1 oz per breast. This seems low considering she is 5 weeks old. She can drink 4oz of formula.
any advice? I would really love to hear other mommies experiences with herbal supplements for milk supply.
I have been supplemental feeding my five week old for almost five weeks now. My midwife thinks I have insufficient glandular tissue. At first I was devastated that I had to supplement but now I've made peace with it. However, I am still not giving up building my milk supply. I heard goat's rue can build tissue and have ordered a bottle from Motherlove. Fenugreek, pumping, dark beer, oatmeal, and the SNS have done very little to help. Does anyone have any success with goat's rue? If so, how long did it take and did it affect your baby at all? Thanks.
Please share your experiences with goat's rue. I need to up my supply and fenugreek and dietary galatagogues are not seeming to help. I read the tincture is more effective; however, the capsules seem easier and more pallatable. I would appreciate any insight into this herbal supplement.
My understanding is that goat's rue builds mammary tissue. I have IGT & have seen an increase in milk after using it for a month, but I'm at a point where I've plateaued.
Do you need to keep taking goats rue for the duration of breastfeeding, or will I keep producing at the same level since its supposed to build tissue?
I'm using the Motherlove capsules (just goats rue, not the blend) - I take 9 pills a day. It's expensive, but every drop of milk I can give my 5 month old son is precious.
About 5 days ago I posted a question about people's experience with goat's rue. Well, I tried the tincture and have doubled my pumping supply. Granted, I was only getting about 2.5-3 oz every four hours while pumping at work, but now I get 5 oz per session which is enough to supply my nursling while I'm at work. I take 1.5 mL of goat's rue tincture 15 minutes before I pump or nurse. I try not to eat anything before or after I take the goat's rue (I read that from some unknown source, don't know the validity of it). At any rate, it tastes terrible but does seem to be working.

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.

My little one is now 15 days old (born FT, 4.3kg, lost 11% BW, sleepy baby). Iβm BF at least 8-10x/day (on demand and waking to feed) and supplementing with either expressed milk or formula about 5-7oz/day. She is finally starting to gain some weight although still 200-300g from BW and averages closer to 20g/day weight gain. I pump every single time she gets a bottle (usually for 20-30min), and collect 1-2oz of expressed milk over the course of the day. Sometimes it can take her an hour to breastfeed, and even then she will transfer 1-1.6oz only hence the supplementation. Iβve been trying to also pump for at least a few minutes after feeds where I donβt supplement (usually at night) to try to increase supply. This amounts to 6-8pump sessions a day, including one power pump (although past few days the little one interrupted the power pumps wanting to BF more).
Should I be pumping more? Can I pump less (only when bottle given)? I have an SNS kit now - how do I best utilize it to get the babe more awake and sucking more vigorously at the breast? Should I wait for a let down before pushing any supplement via the syringe? And should I place limits on how much is supplemented at a time? I initially was only giving 0.5-1oz after a feed (if appears hungry), but Iβve had now several hour long breastfeeding sessions after which she ravaged more than an oz afterwards from the bottle.
If there are any other tips on increasing supply, Iβm happy to hear them. Iβm taking goats rue as fenugreek did not sit well with me. Eating more now that my postpartum nausea subsided. I had some labs checked - mild anemia resolved, thyroid normal, prolactin level 54 (drawn shortly before a feed, unfortunately no post feed level). Iβve had multiple LCs look at my pumping as well which seems to be appropriate in terms of flange, but still surprisingly low volumes even after poor transfers. I use a hospital grade pump although seem to get similar amounts with elvies.
Thanks again for all your advice!
Hi everyone!
Iβm due with baby #2 in November and breastfeeding didnβt go very well with my son due to my supply being low, he also had a tongue tie that wasnβt diagnosed and dealt with until 2 months and pumping didnβt help. This time around, Iβd like to have a game plan together. The lactation consultant that I had seen with my son recommended Goats Rue and Moringa, I also tried various cookies and whatnot for boosting supply and nothing gave any noticeable difference. Does anyone have any recommendations for other supplements to try? Iβm planning on trying Fenugreek.
Thank you!

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.
I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.
When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."
From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"
Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
Edit: Thanks for all the awards, kind strangers! I'll let my son know y'all enjoyed his joke too!
