In 1871, the British Army, which had been using breechloading field artillery since 1859, reverted to using muzzle-loaders. What lay behind this change, especially given the demonstrated effectiveness of Prussian breechloading guns in the Franco-Prussian War the year before?

Seeking recommendations on books covering the Franco-Prussian War
Greetings all,
The Franco-Prussian War is a conflict I've been meaning to tackle a good, comprehensive book on for years. I would like recommendations on books that cover both the politics and military actions of the war. They do not need to be the most exhaustive or tedious academic analyses, but I'd like some depth. Only real qualifier is that it's ideally <1000 pages.
Thank you in advance for any responses.

Franco-Prussian War Games?
Anyone know of any games that take place during the Franco Prussian War? The only one I know of is the Pride of Nations DLC, but I cannot get into AGEOD. Iβm even open for mods that convert games to this era. Iβm also aware of Fire and Maneuver coming out in Spring that will have this conflict.

Were there volunteers in Franco's side during the spanish civil war?
From my understanding, arround 60k (International brigades) people went to Spain to contribute to the war effort against Franco, but did Franco's side recieve any real volunteers from neighbouring countries. If so, how come it is not as widley know as the role that the International Brigades played in the war? What role did these volunteers play during the civil war? And after the war did they stay in Spain or did they went to fight in WWII?

Good books on the Franco-Prussian or Austria-Prussia Wars
Specifically looking for anything around how the infantry in these conflicts fought. The advent of breechloaders feels like a pretty revolutionary development in small arms technology, but I haven't found any sources detailing how it changed infantry tactics. If you have anything from the civil war would like to read it too.
Otherwise, also generally interested in these wars. Doesn't feel like they have the same salience in popular culture relative to the ACW.

Iβm forced back in time to my choice of the Napoleonic Wars, Franco-Prussian War, or World War 1, where I must serve a minimum of 6 months as a common soldier before I can return to 2021. Which one would I choose to give me the best odds of survival and why? Which one do I really want to avoid?
For the purposes of this βchallenge,β when Iβm transported back I somehow gain the knowledge necessary to be a soldier, and I donβt have to attend training. Iβm also thrust immediately into a direct combat role. Thereβs no chance I somehow get lucky in a rear support role.
Possible, but not necessary follow up. While I donβt get to choose the exact role, is there a specific role Iβm hoping for, such as artillery? Is there any role Iβm scared of, such as cavalry? My first instinct is that being on an artillery crew would be relatively safer, especially during the Napoleonic Wars where to my understanding counter-battery fire wasnβt preferred to just pounding the enemy infantry. On the other hand, being a member of the cavalry in the Franco-Prussian sounds particularly terrifying especially as a cuirassier, charging at infantry firing back at me with long-range, accurate, bolt action rifles.
My inspiration for this post came from reading some online articles on Napoleonic casualties, one of which claimed of the 2.8 million French soldiers who fought in the wars, up to 1.4 million were killed in action, which is a staggering 50%. Reading some online articles on WW1, the fatality rates seem to be as low as possibly 10%. To me this makes the Napoleonic Wars seems much more to be the meat grinder that WW1 is often depicted as. Then I threw in the Franco-Prussian War to see how that may have compared as a decent βhalfway pointβ in terms of both time and also technological development.

Combating Prussian Military Doctrine in the Franco Prussian War
Reading Geoffrey Wawro's The Franco Prussian War and I was wondering, what would have been the ideal doctrine the French could have used to combat Prussian tendencies to probe for weak spots and essentially surround their opponents? It seems this type of strategy must have stretched the Prussians very thin. Would a better opponent have overwhelmed them through concentrated force? Assuming France could have closed the gap numbers wise in a prolonged war.

In 1937, Francisco Franco outlawed all political parties in Spain except the Falange Traditionalista. If he did not, but rather stepped down after the civil war, would the Nationalist government have a better chance of being in power today?

The Franco-Burgundian War, or how Vichy France curb-stomped Himmler's fiefdom.
Ok, to put it simple, I went in and checked, and seems that France will have some skeleton content for Toolbox Theory.
I was thinking that there should be an event if France actually wins when Himmler decided to need more Frenchmen for his new projects and invades as Hitler kicks the bucket. Obviously it's impossible, it was made in such a way that France should always lose.
So, this is my suggestion: it should be something not dissimilar to Wales winning against England, with the news event baffled on how such a country has defeated the larger and more powerful neighbor, in this case citing the return of "The Spirit of Verdun" in what remains of the French Army, or massive covert support from the US and Italy as a reason for the victory.
