A list of puns related to "Fouls And Misconduct"
I've been kind of astounded by the discourse about refereeing on our games and couldn't keep it to myself any longer.
First, why the statistic in the title doesn't mean anything. We've gotten five red cards this season:
The thing is, even if Luiz and Gabriel's reds are completely undeserved, which again I don't think they are, we'd still be joint-top of the red card table, so the statistic would still be true, but we'd have clearly deserved every red we got. As for the 20th in fouls:
First of all, if the refs were really out to get us, why wouldn't they just give more fouls against us? The only argument could be that we're so clean that they simply can't find anything to call against us, but that seems ridiculous. Gabriel, Xhaka, Laca, Partey, Luiz, even Saka are all physical players. If the refs really wanted to screw us over, they would call more of their tackles as fouls.
Second, more fouls resulting in fewer reds actually makes sense. Small / tactical fouls in midfield are way less likely to result in reds and can prevent dangerous situations from occurring. For example, if Bellerin charges Podence and cleans him out instead of backing off, he gets booked but the Luiz red card never happens. Teams that commit fouls more often are more aware of the fouls they're committing and more intelligent about it (i.e. midfielders alternating who commits tactical fouls) so they're less likely to get carded. We don't really have those types of players (except maybe for Partey, who got a "good" yellow stopping an Adama counter vs Wolves), and Arteta is an inexperienced manager, so it makes sense he wants to focus on football and not the dirty side of the game.
Finally, it could genuinely be that we have the fewest fouls but the most red cards. If you flip twenty coins and you say "the green one landed on heads the most even though we flipped it the fewest times" then yes, that would be weird, because coins have a known 50-50 probability. But fouls and reds aren't a one to relationship. There are tons of othe
... keep reading on reddit β‘Boxscore of 1st matchup: Rockets win 102-93 at home. Patrick Beverley finishes with 6 points, 1 assist, and 6 fouls in 27 minutes.
Boxscore of 2nd matchup: Clippers win 122-119 at home. Patrick Beverley finishes with 6 points, one three-pointer, one steal, and 6 fouls in 19 minutes.
Boxscore of 3rd matchup: Rockets win 122-117 away. Patrick Beverley finishes with 10 points, 2 three-pointers, 7 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, and 6 fouls in 30 minutes.
Verdict: Something about the Rockets (cough Russ) manages to get under his skin more than he gets under theirs. He still manages to leave his impact on the game while heβs out there in typical Pat Bev fashion, but sometimes, e.g. their second matchup, he leaves the game a lot earlier than Doc would probably like, given how close these encounters tend to be. (Ironically, the game he played 19 minutes was the only matchup the Clippers won.)
Steph Curry in the 4th and OT tonight: 0-6, 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 1 TO, 4 Fouls.
That was brutal to watch. He struggled on both ends of the floor, missed wide open easy shots, and looked like he forgot he was Steph Curry tonight.
The Golden State Woarriors played the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minnesota today. The game went to OT and, simply put, the ending was controversial. Not only was a shot by Kevin Durant called back, but then, with 0.5 seconds left, a foul was called on Durant. KAT went to the line, made a free throw, and the Wolves won the game. The ending has drawn the ire of a lot of NBA fans. The Warriors reaction to the ending is interesting to say the least.

So I was watching the Lakers-Clippers game on ESPN yesterday, and a few minutes into the first quarter Avery Bradley got hit with a technical foul for staring down Patrick Beverly after scoring on him. This then prompted Jeff Van Gundy to make an ever so rare comment that people can actually agree with, stating that he feels certain players around the league (AKA Beverly, Draymond, Lebron, among others) get extreme amounts of leniency from the referees when being called for technical fouls in comparison to the average player around the league.
His point was proven twice, in this game alone, as both Avery Bradley and Danny Green were called for very questionable technical fouls (Green dropped the ball on the ground after being called for a travel, and it bounced on the floor then slightly touched the referees leg, prompting the technical foul). Both of these technical's were given out without any hesitation and almost instantly.
A few plays later, Lebron was sprinting down the court on a fastbreak and was fouled by JaMychal Green, afterwards Lebron shoved Beverly off him for attempting to swat the ball out of his hands, leading to a small altercation between the two, which had to be broken up by players and the referees. This whole sequence was completely ignored by the referees and the game resumed immediately, without the officials even bothering to look at the tape and review it.
Now, personally I agree with the referee's decision not to review the play as I feel it was just some competitive fire between the two, but if technical fouls are not going to be given out for that altercation, then a technical foul definitely should not have been given to Bradley for the stare down, as well as Danny Green.
As a fan of the sport I would like to see the game being called fairly and without any bias towards or against players, because there just seems to be a significant amount of bias around the league officials when it comes to big name players and allowing them to get away with much more than others as a result of their fan appeal.
TLDR: Refereeβs have extreme bias when officiating marquee players allowing them to get away with all kinds of calls, and officiate the rest of the league with a tight whistle
It should then be a fine as flopping is, or supposed to be at least...the LeChin is still rattled from that hard left hook Dillon Brooks gave him.
