My uncle jokes that he's flirting with her
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I wrote this in a comment but I truly believe this needs to be a separate post and discussion. I felt like the micro aggressions and casual racism thrown out throughout this season were much more noticeable than in most prior seasons, and a lot of it was couched as “criticism of contestants or the lead.“
This was the first season where BOTH the lead and many of the contestants were open to POC partners , seemed to have openly embraced/identify with being POC, and seemed to come from already diverse environments. On Rachel’s season, she was very open about having to deal with many Black contestants that were not open to dating Black women. On Tayshia’s season, she has talked about not growing up in a diverse environment, and seems to have largely only had non-POC partners. I think people’s uncomfortablity with having POC leads and contestants who openly embraced their identity and discussed race was very evident in the way much of the cat was treated.
Show:
- Chris S asking if Nayte was going to put jobs”hands on him,” and telling him to fight. Plays into stereotypes about Black male aggressions, despite literally no indication Nayte was going to “fight him”
- the constant close ups of Nayte’s hands during his discussions w/Jamie and Chris— again trying to depict him as someone who was going to get aggressive and fight
- saying Olu had “low IQ” twice, and airing Chris S’ itn saying that about Olu during the show
Fans/Audience:
- constant criticism of the way Nayte talked. Seems like ppl have issues with language used by Black men/in Black communities. How is saying “I’m crazy about you,” different than saying “I really care about you.” How is saying “we vibed out” different than saying “we had a really good time.”
- calling Nayte a “playa.” I literallly saw many people choosing to spell it like that, which indicates to me this is racially motivated. There was nothing to indicate he was a player, even if there was genuine concern about him not being ready for an engagement
- saying Rodney was not attractive enough to be a lead. You’re saying you’ve been attracted to every lead wE’ve ever had? Really? Every single one? I find that hard to believe
- constant accusations of Nayte being “flirty” w/people when going out to bars, despite not having any photo/videos/receipts. I’ve had people mistake me for my friends of different ethnicities (literally I am medium-brown South Asian and have been mistaken for my darker-skinned Black friend, and constantly ge
