A list of puns related to "Fast Fiction"
My favorite genre is non-fiction, and Iβm always looking for exciting/informative books that arenβt totally dry.
Some of my most enjoyed books have been: American Kingpin, Deep, Born to Run, Being Mortal, Bad Blood, In Harmβs Way, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Into Thin Air, and Kitchen Confidential.
Can you recommend a similar kind of read?
EDIT: Thank you all so much! I have a long list of books I want to read nowβmost of them are books Iβd never even heard of until you suggested them!
I read foundation recently and the "capitalist realism" of it kind of ruined my mental image of what a galaxy spanning civilisation would be capable of
All of the kids in the city (??) bring knots to him to untie because he's so good at it, and there's a famous knot at like a pizza place that's a "Gordian knot" which no one's ever been able to figure out, but he spends like a month teasing apart. All the other kids also tell him that he won't be "the fastest" until he beats some guy that may or may not be named Mars Bars? I feel like the cover has a pair of shoes on it. Also he grows up with an African-American family which took him in iirc. Please help me it's driving me crazy. I read it in fifth grade, I think, and it did seem age appropriate.

Check out the guidelines below:
- Stories must be 1,000 words or less
- Follow the theme β 'Was it worth it?' encourages writers to unpack the themes of morality, sacrifice, and the unhappily ever after of Warhammer 40k.

*The same question I asked myself last night, when I walked home in the snow with an armful of Drukhari kits.
Iβm looking for a fast-paced non-fiction book that I can listen to while training for a marathon. History or biography preferred, but any and all sub-genre suggestions are welcome.
For example:
Evisceration Plague
Inhumane Harvest
Sentenced to Burn
Scourge of Iron
Decency Defied
Icepick Lobotomy
When you think of time travel stories, we normally think of a person that moves from a specific moment in time to a different one, like moving between geographical places.
I think 'The Butterfly Effect' is the only move I've seen that explores it in a different way, like is not Evan who is traveling in time, but time itself the one that is moving fast and forward. He just 'switches' between different moments of his life, like he is again his teen self and jumps into his life as it was back then, and then again he goes back to the present and he's a grown up and his life is changed but he is not moving around, he is just sliding the timeline to say so. I hope you understand what I mean.
I loved the concept but I've never found another movie or book that explores time traveling in a similar way. It's always more the time machine archetype where somebody literally 'travels' between timelines like they were moving in space, more in an 'explorer' manner. Which is cool but not what I'm looking for.
Can you recommend me some good fiction that explores time traveling in a more 'what if' way, similar to the premise of 'The Butterfly Effect'? I'm looking mostly for books or movies, though videogames would be cool too if they are available on Steam. Thank you! :)
I like books like The Belgariad, Podkin one ear, Northern lights. If anyone can recommend series that have pace like these books please recommend. I don't know many books, it would really help me to get new books.
I am a middle school ELA teacher and came across a pre-AP strategy called SOAPSTone which works great for essays, speeches and other non fiction visuals for analysis. Iβm wondering if there is an βall purposeβ (I know I know lol) organizer that works for literary analysis (fiction and poetry). I didnβt find anything on College Board for that. Could it be adapted for all texts?
The scores have been tallied and the winners of the 'Now It's Personal' fast fiction contest have been published! (One of them made me cry :'))

Thanks once again to the many community members who entered the contest, and to our guest judges: Andrew of Hobby Vices, and Dan of The HAVOC CAST!

Hi!
In a few months I'll be out of school and I loathe the idea of getting a job because I'm already earning by freelancing and I love it!
I write fiction. I know... I've read from this thread and many others that one would need to write non-fiction or for web to be able to make a living.
But I'm curious if anyone makes enough to live on by being a freelance fiction writer. I'd love to hear how you make it work. Maybe get some ideas or inspiration.
I make some money currently but only enough to foot my student bills and I know I'd need more when I don't have my family paying half of my bills.
I'd love to hear and learn from how you do it. TIA!
I absolutely adored The Count of Monte Cristo and would love to read another page-turner. As far as genres or time periods, Iβm open to almost everything.
I should add that Iβm 18 and fairly new to reading classics/literary fic. A couple years ago I attempted to read A Tale of Two Cities and found it to be very difficult, so much so that I left it unfinished. Iβd like to avoid something like this again if possible, dropping books upsets me lol.
Ok, so my issue is I read a really good series but I donβt remember the title of any of the 3 books (I think it was incomplete at the time, so 4 books now). However, I do remember parts of the plot: The Mountain was a big manufacturer of metal plates with symbols on them (when applied to specific objects, the symbols allowed them to do certain things like fly super fast or convince them they are immovable or require a password to permit entry, etc.), and they stored the ideas for these things in Lexicons that were big and elegant with thousand upon thousands of these original plates floating in the air to preserve the knowledge. I also remember that there were ancients or βold onesβ who initially developed these things (they killed people in ritual like ceremonies to increase the power of certain objects or to imbue the object with a mind), and an old one attempted to come back β and succeeded β but turned out to be evil.
If it helps at all, I am like 90% certain it was by a male author.
Iβd appreciate any help you could offer in identifying this series, and Iβm very sorry for my spotty memory. Thanks!
Edit 1.) The main character (female) came from a plantation on a distant island where someone did an experiment on her to install a scrived plate into her head and it worked (although she doesnβt find out until like the 2nd or 3rd book). Also, the political situation is kinda like 4 or 5 major families or companies who have their own little cities within a larger city, and the in between areas are slums and a free for all zone.

Hi!
I have been thinking about buying an ereader to help with eye strain, but I primarily read nonfiction books. I also take a ridiculous amount of highlights.
I remember using some Kindle years and years ago, but the input lag made it undesirable to use over something like an iPad and the Kindle app. I understand e-ink isn't as fast as an LCD screen, but I'm hoping things have improved in that regard in the last 5 years.
Anyway, I was wondering how quick highlighting is on modern ereaders. I have been eyeing the Kindle Oasis and the Boox Nova 3, but I'm not too familiar with what's available today, or what would be best for me.
One final question, is there any way to export or sync highlights across devices on sideloaded books on either device? I like to take highlights while I read, but then rewrite notes in my own words all at once when I finish the book.
Thanks so much!
