A list of puns related to "European Me"
I am an American so I have absolutely no experience with them. I have however recently seen a ton of memes about how Europeans are always critical of America and the current atmosphere here with racial tensions, while they themselves absolutely abhor gypsies. And beneath the memes are actually a lot of Europeans stating firmly they do in fact hate gypsies and anyone who has experienced having them in a community will feel the same. Calling them rats, vermin, not human, criminals... And they state firmly it isn't about race but the fact that when they come to a community they bring crime.
It seems like the same thing American racists would say about black or latino people, but again I'm very ignorant in these matters and divorced from what things are like in Europe. What is the situation with gypsies and the hatred against them?
I'm just curious. Thanks for some honest answers
Edit: thanks for so many answers. Helped a lot to understand the history behind football, the video game and coach himself
RIP
I just dont get it.
39 days paid vacation, six weeks sick time at full pay, six months at 80% pay, indefinite at 50% pay. They apologized that they had to offer me shitty US health insurance but their hands were really tied on that one.
Did they offer this because they are just really nice people? No, they offered it because my new colleagues in Europe are organized and would be rioting in the streets if they offered less. Seeing all the individuals standing up here is cathartic but unless we get organized all this job hopping and saying FU to the boss stops the next time there's a recession. Take this lesson to heart!
EDIT: This is a small company without a US based subsidiary, so they haven't learned how to use US laws against me yet. I'm not implying being a US employee of ALL European firms works out this way.
I'm from belgium though so this is not everywhere the same in europe, but I'm sure you'll find similar systems throughout europe.
Let me first start why I write this post, well, english media is all over the place, also here, so it's in my best interest to have a voice in that, so we can help each other.
I'm saying this because I don't want to sound like a smug european, who knows everything better, that is not the case at all, in the end the reason why we get so much english speaking media out here is because you make such excellent products.
But in my experience, I do think the way we operate our work ethic is better socially, not productively though, but in the end societies are build for people, not for products, and since the usa makes products and media that influences the entire world, it's in my best interest to try to help you. Because products can have a bad influence as well.
The antiwork movement I don't consider something bad though, frankly i see it as something good, well in a usa setting, it would not work in europe though, and it doesn't have much influence here either way since we do have social security systems.
A system like that is built around a good relation between worker and company, with enough holidays, options for part time work, a lot of rights, so you can work to live and not live to work
But some people can't even work, or have to strain themselves to the point their life becomes a night mare, just to pay the bills.
Well we have systems for that, and those systems are paid through taxes. A lot of taxes, so surely it's much hard to get rich over here, but it sure is a lot harder to get so poor to the point you're homeless and have live off foodbanks. Heck even if you have never worked a day in your life, you still won't be homeless, and you'll still get money.
But these systems are also in steps, somebody that never worked will get less money than somebody that has worked. If you have never worked , and if you have money in bank, you won't get money till you spent those savings but if you have worked, you don't have to access your savings if you aren't working anymore.
Those systems are in place so people would actually try to work, and make working not a nightmare, and if you can't work anymore, or can't find a job, that you still have life, even a social life, hence the name 'social security'.
I have watches some Youtube videos of romanins speaking English and IMO they have less accent compared to other Europeans
Like this video for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyCp-NN0bYA
