A list of puns related to "Employee Relationship Management"
I worked as a forklift operator at a large industrial bakery here in Toronto. We supplied pretty much every grocery chain in the US and Canada with muffins and loaf bread.
Being the only single person in a crew of married family people, I was always the one who would be offered overtime, which I took. At Christmas, I'd be working twelve hour shifts for the entire season as people would be on vacation.
We have a job board in the lunch room: IT jobs were posted every couple of months...now, being friendly with the tech guy, he suggested what I could do to apply. He'd also vouch for me and offer training. What did I need? To start, an IT bootcamp course.
Now, I was getting burned out and tired from the bakery job, so the IT post announcement (along with the support of my friend in the department) inspired me to put down money for thr bootcamp course. This course would have lasted about six months, weekends.
With that said, I would have to cut back my hours. By this time, we were working six day workweeks.
I brought this plan to the HR department. I explained in very clear terms my plans, and how it would benefit the company. I explained that I paid for the course myself, and effectively immediately, I was no longer working weekends.
HR and my supervisor absolutely hated the idea. They took me into the office and explained that they needed me and I wouldn't be permitted to take the Saturday off.
I responded with a simple "thank you." They asked why...to which I responded, "you turned my career into a job."
I ended up quitting two days later. The supervisor called me panicked, saying that three people were off sick and that they needed me. I laughed and told him that it was his problem, and to go to HR.
But wait, there's more.
I was invited to fill out an exit interview form. Which I did. And sent to the CEO and president. The HR person apparently was fired shortly after.
The moral of the story: take your future in your hands. I'm trying to explain this to my wife, who's shit scared of explaining her school plans to her boss. If your boss or HR tries to tell you otherwise, tell them to go to hell.
I read this work advice blog called Ask A Manager. Todayβs Ask the Readers question is about a pregnant employee tossing a used pregnancy test to an employee. Said employee was grossed out and now management is now backing the pregnant employee (although not the person who wrote in; theyβre as horrified as I am reading the story.) itβs bullshit whatβs happening to the employee who was rightfully grossed out. Why would you want to show something you peed on to your coworkers? Itβs madness!

Hi,
Why mostly everyone wants to get to management/leadership vs individual contributor/employee?
Yes, being in leadership/management, you have more visibility in the internals of the company, decision making, your work is to make others work.
Is being a individual contributor/employee a dead end?
I heard an opinion that if you are in your 40-50 years old and if you are not in leadership/management you did something wrong.
Can you also be an individual contributor/employee at age of 40-50? Tech changes to quickly, so it seem logical to climb the ladder to work up to people responsibility roles.
Talking about IT/tech organizations.
European region. I know is U.S there is a big pay gap between those roles, in Europe, not that much.
Thanks,
I work for a company which recently laid off several employees over the past months. All left in my department is the Director (who is on sick leave for an indefinite period), my self and my colleague.
A week ago my workmate told me off the record that he is leaving for another department and that management is aware as they gave him permission for the lateral move. However, there was no official announcement - just a silent advertisement for a new opening in our department on the internal job portal -
I am worried because as the only one left in the department I will be taking over the outstanding projects and according to the job ad. the new employee will be under my supervision and therefore I will responsible for training too.
I am also very upset because management made me sign an extension (they added 3 months) to my current contract few days before my colleague spoke with me. Have I known, I would have at least attempted to re-negotiate my salary.
I feel ripped off - or is it just an impression? - please help me see clear in this situation - I started applying for other jobs.
Thanks for your insights.
Hello! I've got a small (~25) security business where I provide security teams, usually to bars on weekends or during special events, at a fixed cost per deployed employee. I'm trying to find an app or online service where I can do the following on hopefully both a computer and be connected to phone apps for my employees to view/use:
create/manage employee shift schedules
track employee availability/vacation requests
allow employees to view their schedule, trade or request shifts, & input day/time availabilities or unavailability if that's easier
track employee certifications & their expiry dates, bonus if it can send reminders/notifications when items expire
track multiple work sites, bonus if I can input data/notes such as if there are specific site requirements
income vs expenses where I can track monthly/yearly costs associated with my business in order to maximize employee pay without having to come out of pocket for things like insurance, business license, and support equipment
If there is no all-in-one program, what programs to do recommend? Thanks in advance for the help!
Practically all local news stations have a hotline or email address, and they often aren't under as much corporate control. They would LOVE to report on the heartless or illegal behavior of lcoal businesses (real news!) instead of Ms Winstead's Cat's Miracle Recovery in Local Vet Hospital.
If you do, encourage your coworkers to do the same! Three people calling their local news are more effective than a hundred writing the president.
If these articles drive up traffic then they'll continue to write on it, and maybe even follow up or post updates. If it gets enough traffic, Big News might even pick it up to get in on the dollarydoos.
I am currently working as a specialist level on our company in the field of Talent Management and Employee Engagement.
How do I fast track my employment to be promoted as an officer? What skill set should I focus on for both Talent Management and Employee Engagement? Are there any certifications that I should take as well?
Pretty peeved after my employee review this year.
Before my manager even gave us our reviews, she told us that the higher-ups had told her she wasn't allowed to give any 5's, because that would mean they would have to give us a raise. Which to me translates to, why bother trying your hardest when you will not be acknowledged or compensated for it anyway?
I am a nurse at a drug/alcohol rehab. I am not a perfect employee, and I am still learning a lot about nursing and medicine every day. I am not an all-around "5-star" nurse yet, but I hope to be with more learning and experience.
But my patients LOVE me. Our google review score has gone up and I have been mentioned by name in reviews as being compassionate and positive and patients always mention what a good attitude I have and that it makes their day when I am working. This is a reward in itself, don't get me wrong. Imagine my surprise then, when I scored 3 and 3.5 in positive attitude and patient interaction on my review? Dock me points for my time management or missing documentation, or anything else that becomes difficult at a job where you are charged with caring for 35 patients at a time, but I KNOW my interpersonal skills are on point. When I asked my manager about it, she told me that the higher-ups had told her she scored her staff too high and had to bring those numbers down...
I'm not going to stop being the nice, upbeat nurse but dang. Lying about me on my permanent record just so you don't have to pay me more. I can't wait to get out of bedside nursing.
Edit: Grammar
Iβve never ever given another Marriott property a bad review or complained while using my employee code. I just donβt think itβs right and if I have opinion of the hotel I usually keep it to myself since Iβm staying there at an already discounted price.
My family and I (with our 1 and 4 year old children) are staying at a property. We checked in around midnight and we walk into the room and the middle bedside table and phone are covered in cocaine. And of course the first thing my 4 year old does before we finish checking out the room was grab the phone with this substance all over itβ¦.
To say Iβm furious is an understatement. The city we are staying in is a hot spot for drugs and partying but I would still think the hotel would do a thorough clean. The majority of the reviews online are positive and I havenβt seen many people complain about cleanliness. We are just passing through the city for a few nights.
Iβm just conflicted. I donβt like complaining but that is a serious safety concern. None of the trash was taken out of the room either (thatβs the least of my concerns and not complain worthy to me usually). After we found the cocaine we immediately wiped up the table and wrapped the phone in a trash bag.
Any suggestions on what to do? Or should this just be a forget it for my own sake situation?
