A list of puns related to "Dominaria"
While the Dominaria United set release date isn't being released until about a year from now, considering this is one of the sets in 2022 I am looking forward to the most, I figure this would be a fun thread to discuss and speculate about.
To the players familiar with the lore and story of the classic and contemporary Dominaria eras who are some legendary characters that we are likely to see appear in the Dominaria United set and Commander decks?
Questions to consider for discussion:
Note: Feel free to utilize this thread as a general speculation thread for the Dominaria United set overall.
Hi Everyone,
I am curious to see what people in the community think about the current state of unlimited reserve list rares for pricing and if people are picking any up. Specifically, I am referring to cards such as raging river, cyclopean tomb, blaze of glory, and natural selection and other things that were only printed in ABU. Personally I feel some of these cards are significantly undervalued and have been contemplating picking up a few more (Disclaimer: I own 1 natural selection and 1 raging river).
With the coming brother wars set and the return to Dominaria, I could see interest/hype returning to cards from old sets (unlimited included), or stuff pertaining to phyrexia or the original stories of tolaria/weatherlight/urza. Obviously we can't predict the future, but I can see some interest returning and wonder if unlimited cards are solid choice or if there are better options for specs with the sets coming this year. For those that don't like unlimited as a spec or the current state of the market, what would you prefer to go after instead? Urza block and low items from antiquities? Another card I have been eyeing as a spec for growth is coffin of tawnos. For the record I am personally only looking at reserve list items since they often take big swings in prices, but I am open to all feedback on unlimited and older cards in this post.
Greetings,
so, thrull are basically walking powerbank created with spells by the Cabal, that overtime got to cast their spell, then become sentient, then they learnt how to create themself, then destroyed everything, phyrexian included when they invaded.
Could be that they will be used as a weapon?
[[Slinn Voda, The Rising Deep]] was printed in Dominaria as an uncommon Legend, with the (minimal) lore that his back was a refuge city for the Merfolk that retreated from the land.
Idk what I gotta do or where I should do it, but I'd really like to see him reprinted or re-imagined in the upcoming Dominaria United set. <3
It's like they're still in medieval times, even though they had the Thran Empire 9000 years ago. Since the Thran were super technologically advanced, shouldn't modern Dominaria be a sci-fi world?
Were the apocalypses simply too much to bear? Or was it simply all retconned?
Thank you, anonymous Santa, for the Dominaria check lands! They have already gone into my EDH decks, mostly replacing gates or other ETB tapped lands. Thanks again!
I realize there's not a lot of info just yet on the details of these sets, but 3/4 sets confirmed are coming back to old themes/planes, any thoughts on how this could affect future specs in anticipation of 2022 and beyond? Probably all just feelings and guesses at this point, but I'm interested to hear what people have to say!
Side note: So unbelievably stoked to see some cyberpunk neon bling MTG cards, whatever art deco showcase cards come up in the gangster Q2 set, AND LoTR the following year?! Wild times we're living in, folks. Dunno wtf they're doing printing a Fortnite Secret Lair though in Q3 2021, yikes.
Whatβs one creature type Innistrad, Kamigawa, New Capenna, & Dominaria all have in common?
Demons.
And that my friends makes it all the more likely that weβll see Davriel again pretty soon.
Innistrad-
We know these pretty well. They have the Skirsdag as their operatives and are especially active around the Ashmouth which connects to their realm.
I doubt weβll see Dav here as he just recently left the plane prior to War of the Spark.
Kamigawa-
This plane has the Oni, who are malevolent spirits of evil and chaos that have their own ogre (and other humanoid) worshiper-cults.
They are primarily Red and Black and a potentially a poor fit for making pacts with Dav as they tend to seek more physical acts of depravity than souls.
That being said I could totally see Davriel working with Mochi, Kami of the Crescent Moon should the latter be reborn as an oni post-death.
New Capenna-
All we know about this place is that its set featuring a city of unknown size or cosmological location, overrun by demon-led gangs reminiscent of the Godfather, and/or other mafia-stories.
I could easily see Dav setting up shop here as these fiends seem somewhat interested in the planeβs social structure beyond mere violence. They βrun this townβ so to speak, and I could see him having some cute personality conflicts with Elspeth who heβd likely have to team up with, despite his reluctance for heroics.
Dominaria-
Dominaria is another option though itβs hard to see as our last visit already featured a legendary fiend, Belzenlok, and I just donβt see the Cabal remaining as a primary story element again with the way that Phyrexia has returned as a primary threat in the narrative.
Nonetheless, Dav could likely find himself in some kind of position of authority within what remains of the Cabal, but I canβt imagine itβd be all that comfortable as it doesnβt seem like they control many βposhβ accommodations anymore.
And anyway, theyβd expect him to workβ¦
:p
Anyway, I think Davriel is an interesting character, though theyβd have to write him carefully to ensure his βvoiceβ remains somewhat consistent, without becoming too predictable.

This cube captures the original booster draft experience of DominarΓa limited while rebalancing the card distribution and cutting unplayables. If you like the original format or are new and curious about this limited environment, I highly recommend giving this cube a test draft. It's a highlight of one the most beloved limited formats (but it doesn't have to be, see below)...
I have a special booster setup with card distribution similar to the original boosters but with less commons and more rares to allow for more powerful and concise decks.
To further balance draft and sealed pools, I have labeled some bombs are βdouble raresβ that take up two rare slots. This way some cardpools arenβt overpowered just because of a handful of bombs.
I also offer an optional 'modern' draft experience by altering mostly commons and uncommons to further reduce 'feel-bad' cards. As with recent sets, even the commons and uncommons are more complex and synergistic. If you are curious and want to read more, please check out the overview page.
If you could change one card from the original limited format, what would it be?
Iβll post another cube each week. Last week I posted about my ambitious tribal pauper cube, the week before about a synergistic pauper cube about creature value Enter The Battlefield. I also posted about a Kaladesh and Aether Revolt set cube and discussed my Shadows Over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon set cube ft. timeshifted cards other Innistrad sets.
Hopefully this will inspire someone to build, draft or chat :)
Soooo... New sets for next year were announced, and wow am I blown away. In it was art work for the given sets. Dominaria United has a beautiful piece with what I think (please correct me if Iβm wrong) are warriors of Kjeldor and a group of elves. Behind the man on the lefts head is a banner with the Coalitions symbol. Could this be a sign of the Pyrexians return? And is the title of United a nod to the oncoming threat?
My overall conclusion from below is that in the short term (3 years to collect this data), single cards are not investable. There are exceptions, just like people who get lucky on individual stocks or bitcoin investments.
I thought that the specialty products would gain more value over draft/set booster boxes, but they are essentially equivalent. In the long term, this may not stand true.
Keep in mind that this post is not to estimate potential profitability. The table does not take into account seller fees, shipping costs, bulk card pricing, etc. This is only to show an interesting, short-term trend.
If you would like to see an example of how you could calculate potential profitability, take a look at this thread where it discusses the profitability of Secret Lair products:

Decklist: https://aetherhub.com/Deck/teferi-hero-of-dominaria-and-marit-lage
Hey guys!
So I made a Teferi, Hero of Dominaria deck that I have been having some fun with in 100 card Historic Brawl. I didn't track winrates but overall I feel that the deck has been performing rather well and even manages to give some 5 color piles a run for their money if played right.
Wincon
5 mana Teferi has been known to feature in winconless decks where you durdle until you can ult him and start exiling the opponent's stuff in order to bore them to tears. That being said, I feel like this deck has a serious wincon: cast [[Approach of the Second Sun]] twice to win the game.
Weaknesses
This deck is very vulnerable to Kroxa decks with the discard built into their commander and such.
Other decks with blue also can pose a problem because they can pack counterspells of their own.
It can also be susceptible to mono red aggro as it is rather durdly but what control deck isn't vulnerable to aggro, right?
The shell
The shell of the deck is your bog standard Azorius control shell. Counterspells, wraths, and card draw AKA the staples (AFAIK) of any Azorius control deck.
Alternate win conditions
I have tried to build this deck to be as flexible as possible so that if one wincon is out of the question we can fall back on the 3 versions of mill: the two crabs in the deck which are [[Ruin Crab]] and [[Iceberg Cancrix]]. The crabs not only serve as removal bait but also walls against small creatures. The Cancrix is especially interesting as it mills the opponent whenever ANY snow permanent enters the battlefield and is not restricted to lands. Another mill package is the [[Teferi's Tutelage]] and [[Teferi's Ageless Insight]] combo coupled with [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]] to prevent us from decking ourselves due to the card draw.
The other alternate wincon is the [[Marit Lage's Slumber]] snow combo. The enchantment itself is fairly decent imho. It scrys on ETB, it scrys whenever another snow permanent enters the battlefield, and if you have 10 snow permanents then you get a 20/20 indestructible flier along with the counterspells to protect it from getting bounced or affected by steal effects like Claim the Firstborn and the like.
Also included are two manlands: [[Hall of Storm Giants]] and [[Faceless Haven]] and [[Field of the Dead]] for another incidental payoff.

Dominaria Premier Draft will be on Arena tomorrow (or day after tomorrow?) for a week. I have never played the format, but I intend to draft it while it's available. What about you?
I personally think it's a good opportunity to learn a new format while there is nothing else exciting to draft on the client (I'm tired of Strixhaven), and it's a nice way to build my historic collection. However, I will keep my expectations low and fully expect to get stomped by the players that know the format. So gem-wise I expect a clear net loss.
Link to the deck is here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ojutai-controltron-jank/?cb=1627957865
Commander is Dragonlord Ojutai. It's an archetype is something I devised for my meta back in College, from Dragons of Tarkir to Eldritch Moon, during which I had to put up with a lot of decks that had big stompy creatures and control stuff. After that, I transferred colleges to one where the MTG scene was pretty much non-existent, thanks to the gaming society there being made up of cliques who locked themselves in rooms to play D&D every week.
The LGS near me just now started doing events again, specifically EDH on Thursday Nights; I bought a few packs of AFR on a whim and integrated some of it into my deck. I want to make sure this deck can survive in a competitive and somewhat petty environment (last time I went there, I had to look up the rulings for [[Tragic Arrogance]] to show them that, yes, I, the controller of the spell get to choose which permanents stay and which ones go) but after playing it casually with some work friends, it isn't up to snuff with two of the more recent Precon decks (those being [[Wyleth]] and [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]]).
Part of the reason I think might be the land content; I end up mana screwed or mana flooded a lot. Should I throw in some more islands and/or plains and get rid of the nonbasics? Any feedback beyond that helps.

To the players familiar with the lore and story of the classic Dominaria era and Antiquities War, who are some legendary characters that we are likely to see appear in The Brother's War set and Commander decks?
Commander is so much more popular now compared to when the previous and classic Dominaria sets were released. For this reason, we're likely to see 20+ of legendary creatures released in The Brother's War main set (plus potentially another dozen or so in the related Commander pre-constructed decks).
