So, I just got a VR headset and wanted to try out VR Chat bc it looked pretty fun, when to my delight I found someone had ripped the Town from the first game in its entirety and created a VRChat world out of it. Walking around it in first person was surreal. I've walked through the map a million times over in game but actually seeing it with depth and true first person was a mind-blowing experience. Being able to actually climb the Polyhedron and carefully peer of the edge of each staircase, really absorbing how large and strange of a structure it is was a great experience.
It gave me somewhat of an idea though. This sub has gotten considerably larger in the past few years as interest in Pathologic saw an unexpected boom following both Mandy's and Hbomb's video exposing it to millions of more people. What it, and hear me out here, what if one day we did a meet up of sub members in the Town itself. VR Chat is a completely free app to install and play. Better yet, you don't need a headset to install and play it. It supports a desktop mode that works like any other online PC video game.
We could have a literal Pathologic themed party inside the world of Pathologic itself. Maybe on a special date, like the anniversary of the original games release? Idk bout y'all but it sounds pretty fun to me.
In my time on Reddit Iβve innocently clicked links to truly disturbing subs, showing images of all kinds of gore and sexual deviances. Images only posted to shock, to disgust, and to offend. And the stories, stories describing in painstaking detail everything that is revolting, every type of crime, every malfeasance, violation and abomination that can be devised in the twisted collective consciousness of humanity. But nothing Iβve ever seen on this site comes close to being as distressing, as unpleasant, as what Iβve just read.
I don't mean specifically sexual things. It's more of a perversion of every subject. It's to the point that for me anytime I branch out on the popular page I see so many things that go against everything a reasonable society values. I feel like at some point soon things will be pushed to the point that it breaks and something very bad will happen.

There are two characters in this and to make things easier to understand I am going to tell you about them. The Deviant is of the newest generation the prodigy He takes the name of Joey for reasons known to him. The Dominant is the older generation built up over time through experience and hard work a true display that if you want something badly enough you can get it through sheer will, he takes the name Valk. Joey does things apparently on a whim but nothing is left without reason and in the chance that it is then it's that way for a reason. Valk is very upfront and blunt about his intentions constantly changing courses of action. Joey takes the appearance of a 20 year old male with vanta black skin his teeth shining through his complexion like a flood light his eyes are dots that glow a brilliant blue his hair spiky and messy. He wears a grey trench coat with a pauldron on his right arm and light armor where the sleeves are his pants are plated leggings he wears a blue undershirt and has a small floating crown that floats to the right side of his head and an antler on his left he is a frightening figure. Valk wears a suit and tie the suit and tie are white and pristine his shirt under is black having golden hair in a similar fashion to Joey. The two are vastly powerful one a master of the trade in power and strategy and the other a master of combat and intimidation. So, this post largely stems from a discussion in #qs-for-the-devolved-speaker about outlandish deviance from the real-world core values of the political parties we represent. That itself was inspired by the UUP releasing a tricolour backed poster stating its indifference to a united Ireland. I will try to sum up the discussion in this post, but I wanted to raise it mostly so it doesnβt get lost - this isnβt a concrete proposal so please do contribute in the comments.
I think we all agree that part of the fun of MHOC is being able to shape the game through our actions. Passing bills, debating motions, and moving our parties closer to our own positions. That is to be desired, because very few people would want to play a sim where youβre told you cannot deviate one inch from the policies of Boris Johnson or Keir Starmer. Even pretty large degrees of deviance have been tolerated (I remember UKIP advocating for a soft-Brexit; the Liberal Democrats negotiating the Brexit deal; and Scottish Labour including a number of prominent and openly pro-independence MSPs). I have little issue with any of that, because its part and parcel of how the game functions.
However, I would suggest that irl-dervied parties should need to follow the core principles, broadly defined, of that party. Bluntly, there should not be a Tory MP who openly supports communism and runs campaigns using imagery of Joseph Stalin. Nor should there be an SNP MSP who flies a Union Flag and supports greater integration with the United Kingdom. Or a Labour Lord who trumpets unfettered free-market capitalism and wants to strip back the welfare state. Each of those are so radically out of the realm of real-life it would be hard to take them seriously.
I am open on how we operationalise this and I would want it to be light touch. The Quad shouldnβt need to, and cannot be expected to, review every policy proposal and judge if itβs sufficiently compliant with real-life policies. That itself would be absurd. But I do feel itβs time we say basic things like, βif you are in Sinn Fein, you need to support a United Irelandβ or βif you are in Labour, you need to support some form of social safety net and generally be aligned to social democracy onwardsβ. There was a tower crane collapse around where I am recently, and I had a disagreement late last month with a definition that our safety head tried to use. The two seem tangentially related.
Our head of safety was talking about complacency, but he thought that there were too many negative connotations tied to the term, so he wanted to use 'unconscious competence.' I believe that is an inherently dangerous concept to adopt. Complacency seriously injures experienced tradespeople and kills apprentices. Call it what it is, accept the negative connotations because that's the only way to consciously avoid it. Complacency allowed be to disconnect a live 600V motor because I assumed I had locked it out before I went for coffee. Complacency allowed me to ignore SDS information and expose myself to chemicals that could have been lethal in different situations. Complacency put me in confined spaces with no training.
A certain level of personal acceptable risk tends to be required when you're in a trade, particularly when you're working in the field. Don't allow personal risk tolerance to cloud your judgement. Anything you're doing, assume that you're watching your kid do it with you. If you ever find yourself thinking, 'don't try this at home kids' you need to step back and review your safety protocols. That doesn't mean you need a full stop, but you need to have clarity before you move ahead. Check your exit strategies in close spaces, check your wind directions, double check your cables, hoses, ropes, slings etc.

Not knowing something is deadly is ignorance, knowing it's deadly and doing it anyways is stupidity.
When I was an apprentice, I did things because I was told to, because I thought it was safe enough, because I wanted to make a good impression or because I just wanted to get the job done.
I don't want to see my own guys doing some of the shit I did because I was stupid and didn't have anyone there to tell me hold up, we can do that safer.
Take your time. Do it right.

I'm working on a medical research project involving patient data. I've chosen the most appropriate model type given my response variable (poisson), and removed the problematic explanatory variables that for various reasons were inappropriate for the model. I confirmed that there are no individual outliers influencing the model. However, the model is still failing the deviance goodness of fit test. Transformations aren't appearing to help as far as I can tell.
Because I can't include any additional variables and the variables I'm already using are necessary for the research question, is it acceptable to continue with a model that fails the deviance chi square test? If so, is there an appropriate way to report this in a manuscript?
Similarly, is it acceptable to use a model that looks bad on a Q-Q plot for linear regression, or fails the hosmer-lemeshow test for logistic regression?

This is a HUGE chunk of what's wrong- The Normalization of Deviance.
The Normalization of Deviance is sine qua non to how they operate. If deviance from moral, ethical, and social norms were impossible, the TSCC as we know it would be impossible.
This isn't exactly an original idea. It's been around in aviation safety culture. I was reminded browsing through Karlene Petitt's Ph. D dissertation. (The idea is so good that I wish it were mine.) Ms. Petitt is/was a Delta Airlines Captain. In this segment of the passenger transport industry, understanding the root causes of various failure modes is key. The business cannot long survive having planes fall out out of the sky, nor will shareholders suffer with capital loss write downs of 9 figures. We all know this about customer choices. Regardless of what they SAY, their actual behavior proves that they are properly enlightened about their self interest. During the peak of Covid in 2020, passenger numbers tanked like never before.
With this in mind, this could really be a key idea to disseminate and propagate. Most brainwashed people can be deprogrammed if you ask them the right questions. Get them to turn on and exercise their own critical thinking abilities.
So find some simple undeniable examples and ask your family, friends, loved ones, etc. some simple, non-confrontational questions.
If I get some free time, I might be back to smash keys about this more. But regardless, you guys carry the torch.

The mixture of all of ^^^^^ that just seems interesting to me tbh. Gonna spend my life researching sex and attending events that people usually consider extremely sexual.
Idk I just think it's funny and ironic.
I mean he's still a massive pervert but at least now we see more of his personality and he's actually a very likable character. I wish we had seen more of this earlier.
So there are some very real issues regarding sexual deviance being carried out by autistic individuals. Particularly with regards to stalking, saying inappropriate things, and inappropriateshowing of the genitalia. And that makes some sense! Often autistic adults have less sexual knowlege, may have difficulty with grasping social norms, may have trouble noticing that someone is uncomfortable, may be prone to more obsessive amd repetitive behavior, may be discriminated against-leading to an extreme amount of pent up frustration and anger. If I remember correctly incels are far more likelky to be autistic than the general population.
We need to talk about this because a lot of the issues that seem to be causing this small over representation of autistic individuals committing sexually deviant acts seems to be a lack of understanding on their part, as well as on that parts of people around them. Failures in education, in the criminal justice system, heck maybe even our media! Particularly with how many autistics learn social norms from the media, and the way that media often encourages sexual coersion through getting someone to drink alcohol, lies and trickery, persistence and wearing them down, and so on. Very many "99 nos and 1 yes is a yes" type ideas are pushed by popular media imo.
But people are so ready to throw autistics under the bus. Who has seen that commercial from autism speaks? "I am autism.. if you have a happy marriage,, I will make sure that marriage will fail.. I will bankrupt you for my own self gain.. etc" how messed up is that? that sort of stuff is fear mongering bs and I'm sick of it. The vast majority of autistic individuals do not do these acts, to my best understanding we are more likely to be the victims than the perpetrators.
But still, these statistics matter. Its a failure of the system imo that needs to be handled with extreme care..
