Well thatβs a re-leaf

I think this is original?
Basically what you might find in Nordic countries which have terrain the likes of which I'm used to. Foraging, sure. Shelter building, yes. Fire-starting, yes. Basic axe/hatchet and survival knife tricks and techniques etc .
It's something that I want to be able to learn from in tandem with my kids too, so they can grow up with basic bush-crafting skills too. It can be for when they really need it to overcome a difficult situation, but also to enjoy some no-frills camping experiences.
The go-to might be a Mears or Grylls edition but I'm always wary of a book that tries to be everything for everyone. That said if those are recommended, then fine!
I use a bunch of different size / thickness / shape picks depending on what I'm playing. I recently picked up a belt sander and decided to try making a few picks to suit my taste.
I found that I really like them. Grinding, some sandpaper, a little buffing, and I've got picks that I expect will last me for quite a while.
I looked at some of my old picks and noticed beveling from use, and I duplicated that on these (which you may see in the picture).
They feel great, and I think they look pretty cool.

New to Tucson as of March 2021. I remember when we purchased our home in February, there were no leaves on the deciduous trees.
Here we are in late December and the trees are just starting to show a hint of autumn tree stress. Is that normal? Do they lose their leaves every year?
Coming from the Midwest, where the trees are yellowing in September and completely bald by November.
