A list of puns related to "Cuisine Of South Africa"
I've taken an interest to African (primarily the non-North, non-Maghreb part) cuisine lately, but it seems like there's a lack of good cookbooks about them out there. A search on Amazon yields lots of "quick-and-easy" or less-than-150-pages independent cookbooks, but nothing much substantial.
I'm not saying there aren't any good cookbooks about them. I'm aware of The Ghana Cookbook, The Soul of a New Cuisine, and Food from Across Africa, but I wonder, with such a vast continent with a rich history, why there isn't a Gran Cocina Latina or a The New Book of Middle Eastern Food for Africa-south-of-the-Sahara cuisine.
Is the demand simply not there? Or maybe I'm not searching right? Can someone point me to a good cooking resource on these types of cuisines?
Seafood question!
So, I was having a conversation with my girlfriend, who is Bengali, and it came up how things like potatoes and chilis were from the Americas. Apparently, she didn't know that and was initially insistent that they couldn't be, because of how ingrained in South Asian cooking they are. So that got me wondering: what was South Asian cuisine like before the introduction of those? And further, about when did those become introduced and popularized in the region? At first, my guess would be to imagine modern food but with those ingredients removed, but I know lots of European cuisines changed wildly in that time frame, and not just in terms of new ingredients.
You'd think he was from Mad-at-gas-car.
I am not Christian and I normally don't go for books written by Bishops and their likes, but Desmond Tutu was an extraordinary man who worked tirelessly towards peace, tolerance and understanding.
As a important force in the end of Apartheid he was Chairman of the "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" that sought to work through past wrongs and find a new way forward in South Africa and wrote a book about his experiences there.
The book of Forgiving
touched me deeply and gave me a new understanding of South Africa Apartheid, Racism and Forgiveness.
The Book of Joy by Desmond Tutu together with the Dalai Lama
is another extraordinary book of him, I want to recommend. It shows a very relatable conversation by two great spiritual leaders about Happiness.
Yes or no?
I love south slavic cuisine, I have a blast while eating in Bosnia but other slavic cuisine don't really appeal to me except from borscht soup and beef Stroganov, so I wanted to hear your thoughts and opinions about it.
There is also cheburek and pelmeni/varenyky/pierogi of course but those exist in Turkish cuisine as well.

I find it remarkable how your guyβs countries have such similar cultures due to the colonial history and yet ZA has such a high violent crime rate while your guysβ violent crime rate is pretty low.
I guess some would say that the weather is better in South Africa but I honestly prefer the UKβs climate.
What do you think of South Africa Brits?
