On the WSJ crossword for 12/22 the following clue appeared:
"One might be worth a few bucks" (5 letters)
The answer was >!BRONC!<
I tried googling it and couldn't figure it out. Any thoughts?

Came across an accidental reference to everyone’s favourite subterranean cavern in the crossword. Seems to imply the High Wilderness should actually be called “the O’er”.
NYT crossword app on iPad Pro - tab no longer moves to next clue?
With this latest update, my iPad Pro with attached keyboard no longer allows me to move to the next clue by pressing the tab key. Just me or impacting others? I have restarted and disconnected the keyboard etc but still have the issue.

Are crossword puzzle clues in your country encyclopedic or punny in nature?
I was annoyed how much crosswords in the UK are about worldplay, because I couldn't find a single answer. Russian clues are almost always pretty straightforward, with easier puzzles simply testing your general knowledge or thesaurus.
Like, an English clue would be "enthusiastic about scoring a goal", while a Russian one would be "former Portsmouth FC player".
Coming back after a little over 9 years later to this game. Stats/inventory are just as corny as my character’s name (13-year old me had no clue what he was doing), so I’ve got some work to do, but having fun playing again😊

What are the *asterisks for at the beginning of some NYT crossword clues?
I’m guessing it has something to do with linked clues? See screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/nit6T4V See the yellow boxes being highlighted when the main clue is also highlighted in blue
I think that, watching how certain other parts of the puzzle highlight when I get to a clue with an asterisk, the correlating answers that are highlighted are linked somehow and all pertain to some overarching joint theme. That is my guess but I haven't found any literature on the matter.
I'm still learning to "speak" NYT crosswords. I think "?" means wordplay or puns, and "abbr." and "for short" and "in brief" all mean the same thing aka that the answer is shortened. But I can't figure out the asterisk thing. Thanks!
