A list of puns related to "Compeyson"
I finally got done reading this book (took me years) but there is one thing I don't understand. If Compeyson was also a convict who was tied up with Magwitch early in the story, doesn't that mean that he also would have been exiled to Australia? If so, why would he just be free to hang around in London and stalk Magwitch and freely have a police officer with him when they go to arrest Magwitch. Wouldn't he be in just as much trouble and arrested on the spot if discovered?
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Pilot on me!!
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.

Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.

Great Expectations - Review
This is the 13th book in my #ayearofdickens2021 challenge.
Despite my best efforts, I lost momentum towards the end of the year and therefore will be finishing this Dickens reading project in 2022, hopefully by the end of Feb, but Iβll keep the 2021 hashtag.
Great Expectations has been an interesting reading experience, not least because it is such a beloved favourite of many Dickens readers, it is almost impossible to come to it without βgreat expectationsβ of the book itself.
Itβs such a popular tale that it feels like the story is part of some innate cultural consciousness and you βknowβ the story whether or not youβve read the book. In fact, this was the only Dickens I had previously read, although back in the hazy days of 2003 so my memory of it was minimal.
Anyway, here's my attempt to articulate my thoughts.
EXPECTATIONS
The notion of βExpectationsβ is fraught with conflict. It seems the happiest people in the book are those who have no aspirations above their station. As a young boy, before meeting Miss Havisham and Estella, Pip is quite content to pursue a life at the forge with Joe, itβs only when he dreams of rising above his current social status that he becomes unhappy and starts to behave in a less than admirable way.
Jo and Biddy are quite content as they are - excelling within their own circumstances and being as useful as possible. Perhaps the difference here is the motivation - Pip wants to impress Estella and is partially motivated by shame, whereas Biddy merely wants to improve herself.
Pipβs expectations are not only monetary. His own desires drive him to erroneously guess at his benefactor/ress and he labours under this misapprehension because itβs what he wants to believe.
Miss Havisham herself has expectations of Estella - she raises the girl to enact her revenge on men, yet she expects Estella to show her love and affection. She is also the subject of expectations from her extended family - the cousins who circle like vultures at the feast.
LOYALTY/DUTY/FRIENDSHIP/LOVE
Iβve lumped these together as they are often intertwined. The ultimate example of all of these is Joe Gargery, who remains a true friend to Pip, showing him unconditional love throughout the whole book, despite Pipβs questionable treatment of him.
Pip is willingly a loyal friend to Herbert and Wemmick, and somewhat unwillingly to Magwitch.
There are many types of love displayed throughout the story. Miss Havish
