A list of puns related to "Comb Binding"
I bought a three volume collection of Beethovenβs sonatas, Chopinβs waltzes, etudes, and nocturnes, and Bachβs collected works for my very talented piano playing boyfriend for his birthday. He loves the gift! But each of the three 600+ page books are bound with plastic combs tooth binding that keeps coming undone and catching the pages, making it impossible to turn the pages when he plays! I assume the manufactures intentionally didnβt bind it with a hard spine because the pages need to lie flat on the stand in order to read when playing. But one also needs to be able to turn pages quickly without the paper catching on the combs tooth and ripping! Thereβs just too much friction when turning pages for these books to be useable when playing.
My question is β is it possible remove this bad binding and rebind over the existing holes in the paper to make these books functional? Iβm thinking thread binding or glue binding wouldnβt work because the pages wouldnβt lie flat on the piano stand. Spiral binding, with its thinner and more permanent structure, seems like it might be the best solution but the hole size that is already punched in the paper for the combs tooth is a different size and spacing than what spiral binding seems to require. Help! Does anyone have any advice? Weβre thinking we have to return the books even though he really loves them (minus the binding) but thereβs nothing out there that we can find with the same completeness of work that isnβt on crappy plastic combs tooth binding.
I have a couple of large paperback books I'd like to have converted to a comb binding so they'll lay flat.
I've done this with smaller books myself, but I don't have the equipment to remove these spines.
There are plenty of places that will print and bind, but can't seem to find one that will do this.
Are there any companies in Metro that do this kind of thing?
I have a daily planner that is default sized at 8.5x11. We want to do a smaller version, but I cannot find short comb binding. Is it made shorter than 11 inches, or do you just cut the long ones?
For some reason I really want to bind my lecture notes all up, however personal binding machines are a bit suss with quality ...
Hello /r/Bookbinding!
Please forgive my newness to Reddit, but I was wondering if there were any binder gurus who may recognize a unique version of comb binding. I bought a day planner with pictures years ago that has a metal comb bind which is a tapered 'D' shape and the spine is actually a plastic slide allowing title printing information. (please see image link: http://imgur.com/i5Cwhr3)
I am looking to print with this style of binding. Unfortunately any searching I've done only comes up with the plastic comb varieties. The information in the interior seems to be very dated and confusing: Nihon Yamamura Glass Co., Ltd., is mentioned on the inside title page, but there's no reason it should be there, as they don't print books. In the back, Bunshodo Co., Ltd., is mentioned but their current site doesn't describe any binding, mainly just paper. (http://www.bun-sho-do.co.jp)
I am not sure if I will get a response, but I am currently emailing them to ask about the book, as they may know what printing house they oversee may have actually made the book. However, the main goal is to find supplies of this binding so that I might use on a book to publish myself. I'm not sure if I'm searching under the right description terms or if there may be a supplier in the states which would make printing a whole lot easier.
Would anyone have any insight on such binding or have ever seen it before or something similar? The metal binding is so much classier (and durable!) than plastic and the ability to see a clean, printed title on the spine (which can be turned to the front for additional display) is completely desired. But man, it is so darn elusive! And frankly, I'm even having trouble finding any record this thing was ever printed at this point.
Thank you for any information or insight you may have. I greatly appreciate that you took the time to read this request. Thank you!

edit: Also his Last Will & Testament. Can this also be included into one document. I'm trying to help a disabled veteran set up their final wishes. The County Recorder charges almost $100 to record the first page and a much smaller fee per page after the first. I called and asked them and they could not advise.
This will give one person fill and exclusive powers or atty, control of estate and all final wishes including burials and so forth.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I started one-bagging over ten years ago. I didn't know that was a word. I just wanted to pack for a weekend in my regular backpack so I didn't have to buy one of those little rolling suitcases.
Discovering this subreddit has been amazing. I'm so happy to meet a group of like-minded people and read years of archived discussion on how you all do things.
One thing I've noticed is that many people on this subreddit seem to be on a much bigger budget than I was then or am now. If I didn't already have a few trips under my belt, I might get the impression that you needed all the fancy gear.
This post is my little nudge in the opposite direction. It is, as best as I can reconstruct, my packing list for my first one bag trip, a fall weekend in the Midwest in 2008 or so. It features only items I already owned, none of them travel-specific.
I had kind of a business casual dress code back then.

I bet on the hotel providing soap, shampoo, and a towel. Also, looking back, I bet on the hotel bleaching its shower between bookings, which may not have been wise for that hotel.

The evening of February 24th, 1976 was like any other for Michelle Mitchell. The 19 year-old University of Nevada nursing student had spent the day in class, and as the sun dipped below the horizon, she was running a habitual errandβdropping a container of orange juice off to her father at a nearby bowling alleyβbefore heading home.
Just past 6 PM, Michelle was driving her Volkswagen Beetle east on 9th street, on the southern end of campus, when, as she passed Evans avenue, her engine seized and shut down, causing her car to roll impotently through the intersection. She used the car's accrued momentum to coast to the side of the road, and with the help of a passerby, pushed it into a nearby parking lot. Michelle then crossed the street to the university campus, walked into a phone booth, and called her mother, Barbara, to ask for a ride home.
When Barbara Mitchell arrived half an hour later, however, Michelle was nowhere to be seen. Barbara performed a cursory search of the area and found Michelle's Beetle, sitting in the parking lot Michelle had described, but couldn't find Michelle. With rising anxiety, she hurried back to the phone booth and called her husband and the police.
Barbara, her husband Edwin, and the police together spent hours combing over the entire campus and its surrounding neighborhoods searching for Michelle, but to no avail. The police brought a sniffer dog along, but an attempt to have it follow Michelle's scent from the phone booth led nowhere. As night officially set in, the police began to transition Michelle's disappearance into a larger missing-person investigation, with another search planned in the coming week.
Later that night, an elderly couple living at 333 E 9th Street, pulled into their driveway and triggered their garage door. As they watched the door open, their car's headlights began to illuminate the garage's interior, and they saw something unexpected: a human body. The startled couple rushed inside to investigate, and found the body of a partially-clothed woman, lying prostrate in a pool of drying blood, her hands bound behind her back with twine. Police were called, and as they turned the body over, they recognized the woman immediately. It was Michelle Mitchell.
The only major wound on Michelleβs body was a deep laceration across her neck, which was the source of the drying blood. She didnβt have any defensive wounds, which meant she may have been taken by surprise by her attacker, and the state of her body

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
I have found UW control to be pretty lacking in the current meta, and after investing the wildcards to build this 5c Niv Mizzet deck (it's like 90% rare+), I want to keep it relevant. It can be tricky to fill out the "toolbox" cards, and in the right amounts. I learn something in almost every mirror I play, so I wanted to comb through spikes to grab some additional suggestions and maybe give some tips on a deck I have been grinding pretty heavily.
Work so far
After some tweaking, I have gotten the deck to 17-10 since the latest changes, currently sitting in high plat. The major difference since I started climbing is the inclusion of more graveyard bullets, as both Izzet Phoenix and various cat/oven decks are very common at the mid-plat level.
This deck has recently gone down to a single Drown, to avoid nombo's with Ashiok, and pulled Thought Erasure from the sideboard (too slow). I have also recently added the Vraska to the sideboard, as a helpful threat in grinding or control match ups. I have dropped down from the usual number of Clarions and Commands and made some adjustments to the sideboard to fit it all.
I keep a single Drown and a single Trophy in the main to answer crackling drakes, other niv mizzets, and anything else with 4 toughness and 2+ colors. We have a blind spot in out removal to these types, so having a pair of answers will save your game 1 sometimes.
The biggest change from the netdeck Niv decks is swapping out the Companion Jegantha for Lier. I see the arguement for including a more reliable 5/5, but since the deck runs so many 1-off answer cards and high power level cards, I think replayability trumps consistency here. This was straight from Ali Eldrazi's version, definitely not my idea, but I do like it better.
