I will just lay it out, although it is quite embarrassing. I didn’t have a good childhood (every form of abuse) Then, between the ages of 18-20, I was pimped out on the streets of NYC as a prostitute. The couple times I was caught, I was told to lie about my name or there would be “consequences.”
My brother came to my rescue and I got home, but I was far from done. My brother had something wrong with him, but no one really noticed the signs till it was too late. I ended up in a position where my brother shot a police officer while we (me and three others in an -unknown to us - stolen vehicle) were going across country. So this huge shootout ensued, but only one triggerman from our side. Of course, the police did not know who the shooter was, so we were all charged with all of the charges they could get us on. this happened when I was 21.
When it was all said and done, my brother was sentenced to more than life. I was convicted of theft by bringing stolen property into the state (the stolen vehicle), and the terrible charges (aggravated battery on a police officer, along with many many more) were dropped. I have spent about a year in prison.
I am 38 now. After tons of therapy, and very astounding maturity/work on my part, I have become a great human. I have an AA in business administration. I am a (currently not-active) minister. I am a small business owner and contribute to my community and society with both my business and my personal life. I carry myself with pride. I am happily married to a fantastic man. We own one of those “white picket fence” type homes and even have a border collie to make it even more cliche. When I am not at work, I spend my time gardening, painting, practicing bass guitar, and I have a love for video games. If you didn’t know about my past, you would think I am a model citizen. I vote, pay my bills and taxes, and I even love bbq’s with my mother in law. I have not thought about my past in over 15, almost 20 years. My husband knows about my past, but he is even more amazing and a more model citizen than I am. He accepts it as my past. My husband is the only one here (minus his family who also lives here and knows) who knows about my past. My friends here honestly would think I was a liar if I told them who I used to be. They know I have a troubled past, but I have never gone into detail and they have never asked. I really don't want to be stuck with $600 worth of tickets I can't use or sell. (Ticketmaster isn't allowing me to sell them, either.) How do I get out of this? What's the point of insurance if I can't get a refund when there isn't even a game to watch?
