This really is utter BS, the Council can get the buildings strengthened themselves then try to get the money back off the owners. How many of these buildings are there in Wellington? probably hundreds. how deep are ratepayers pockets?
Vast overreach by Council, they are not the owners of the buildings and should not be spending one dollar strengthening them, this is a gross misuse of public funds. The fact is, if these buildings are uneconomic to strengthen, let the owners demolish and rebuild.
Just another load of heritage handwringing, that does not add one dollar of economic value to the city when all the money on strengthening is just economic deadweight.
