Carlisle Indian school would hire Glenn "Pop" Warner and produce athletes such as Jim Thorpe.
Carlisle Indian would play Ivy League and Big 10 schools and would always play away from home or neutral site games in big venues as they had no home field. The football team was popular among Americans as people were excited to see real Indians.
Note: While Carlisle Indian school was not a place were a lot of Native Americans wanted to be, sports were an escape to them. Football practice meant doing something other than hard labour for the school and getting out and preforming in front of people was exciting.
