A list of puns related to "Cheque Book Holder"
EDIT: It looks like this fraud is not uncommon at all.
I just received an email from a so-called "textbook seller" asking for the price of my book. Notice how its email is very similar to the scammer I mentioned: last name + first name + a random number, at gmail.com.

The previous email is from "markhellen075@gmail", while this one is from "leemalia273@gmail". Very similar, isn't it?
We did talk a bit, until he asked me to contact through WhatsApp. I told him I didn't have WhatsApp, he didn't ask further and ask me to send a list of all textbook available.
I tried sending him the list, only got my email bounced back, the error code was suspicious:
Notice this account was "disabled". It is highly possible that this is another scamming attempt, the email is detected and disabled by Google.
I have received scamming emails from three different scammers within no more than 6 months. There is clearly a massive scamming attempt targeting McMaster students. Stay vigilant!

TLDR: Scammers are targeting the McMaster used book classifieds, a McMaster-held database for the students to share their used textbooks. The scam that got me was a typical cheque fraud, in which the scammer send a cheque that holds a much higher value than demanded and ask you to send the extra value to another account. The cheque in fact comes from an account that doesn't have enough cash, so the money deposited into your account would be taken away by the bank, along with a bank-charged commission.
More background for the TLDR: McMaster does not earn any commission or provide background check for the database, all communication are done through email address posted by the textbook owner.
Full Story:
I posted several textbooks on the website hosted by McMaster, along with my McMaster email address.
In late July someone contacted me through a gmail account stating he (Or she, the gender of this scammer remains in mystery. I will use pronoun he because it's easier) was interested in one of my textbooks.
I said okay, but I am not currently in C
... keep reading on reddit β‘I opened a new chequing account along with the CIBC Visa Infinite credit card and they want to charge me $56 for 50 cheques.
I need cheques to pay my rent but I feel like it's a total scam in this day and age !
Call me cheap but is there a way around this ?

Will L1 visa holders be receiving stimulus checks? Husband and me are SSN holders and have filed all taxes. One son has a ITIN. Is there any specific eligibility criteria to receive this stimulus check? Does any of you in visa status have started receiving the check.
This is just my opinion
