A list of puns related to "Causal Filter"
I'm an EE undergrad student with a few signals classes under my belt, and I understand the concept of an LTI system and the constraints. I'm trying to break these constraints in order to learn about other kinds of systems and I'm stuck on an actual implementation of a non-causal impulse response and how to convolve it with an input signal non-causally.
I remember being told about convolving in both directions to achieve a non-causal filtering, but I'm not sure how to do that. How would you take a simple impulse response (as a 1-d array) and filter a random input signal (as a 1-d array) non-causally?
Why is a filter with impulse response h[n] = sinc(n) non causal. Cheers
Hi everyone. I'm looking to get some feedback on a post I created about the Wiener filter. In the post, I go over a short derivation for the casual Wiener filter, provide a brief overview of its applications, and supply practice problems. Specifically, I'd like to know if I went into enough detail and made it easy enough to understand that an engineer could read the post and create a Wiener filter for their own applications. What else do you think I should add to make the post better?
You can find the post at:

Thanks for your feedback and help.
I'm very new to DSP so feel free to correct me on things if I'm using weird terminology or anything really.
I'm trying to simulate a basic low-pass FIR filter in Matlab. My book gives the following as the values for the transfer function: http://i.imgur.com/M8cjD3A.gif
So I used that equation to make the filter. This filter will be non-causal and needs to be made causal. My books says I should just replace 'k' with 'k-N' where 'N' is half the number of taps minus 1. IE shift it into the RHP.
Here is the matlab code for reference: http://pastebin.com/NzQNe0e9
There's some other stuff in there like getting an impulse response and such but I'm really only looking at the frequency response.
At first I forgot to make it causal and got a response that looks correct to me: http://i.imgur.com/Xb9R1Df.png
Then I tried making it causal as I described above and I get this: http://i.imgur.com/488L0a8.png
Which seems kind of weird and doesn't really match what's in my book. I'm just wondering which one(if either) of these looks correct. I'm also really unclear about making the function causal. I'm hoping someone can see a mistake I'm making or offer some advice.
Thank you for reading and hopefully this made some amount of sense.

On February 24th, a system-wide crash at the Fed disabled the movement and reporting of electronic cash flow for approximately 3.5 hours. During this time, financial institutions were unable to move money around and make payments using the National Settlement Service which clears settlements for the DTC. Suddenly, when the system came back online, "meme stocks" began going bonkers with massive volume spikes followed by swells of gains into after hours. We believe that due to systemwide delays to intraday settlement reporting, when the system came back online, it attempted to start settling naked shorts.
Even Ryan Cohen himself attempted to point out the problem with his legendary McDonald's Ice Cream cone tweet. Ken Griffin was quick to publicly blame RC's tweet for the sudden surge and provided a convenient red herring to distract from possible evidence of naked shorts, that if revealed to be true, would open up many more questions into his positions and the continued naked short selling of GameStop.
We've come to two distinct conclusions about what happened on February 24th:
I noticed a lot of confusion recently with the relationship of the Drifter and the Operator and how they interact. I've seen terms thrown around like time travel and different timelines. Even the wiki is guilty of this and describes the Drifter as coming from an alternate timeline. I'd like to take a moment to discuss how this ignores the concepts of Presentism and Eternalism that the game presents, how they relate to who the Tenno are, and look at how these concepts were conceived from theosophy and later esotericism. There will be a TL/DR at the end.
The story is currently vague on a lot of concepts so I will be pulling from the lore's inspiration theosophy to connect the dots. This could be proven false at a future date, but I think you'll find the lore makes more sense with this filter.
##Theosophy
First, I'd like to explain a little of the history Warframe has for pulling from 19th and 20th century esoterism. In this section I'll show various examples of the clear influence it has on the game.
Railjack is the most prominent thing I can think of because it became one of the most overt references before the New War. If you'll remember, Railjacks have a component called an orgone accumulator. Now orgone is an esoteric concept of anti-entropic universal libido. The idea is it's kind of that selfish energy that drives living things to exist opposed to entropy.
The orokin strongly resemble the theosphic idea of the 4th root race Atlanteans being selfish, opulent, and technologically advanced to the point of their downfall. You may think this coincidental since Atlantis is a much older concept from Greece, and it might have been initially, but theosophy is the origin of the myth of Atlantis as being specifically a technological paradise. So, either way, theosophy has influenced the modern trope of a technological society's hubris leading to its downfall.
Eidolons are indeed named after another Greek concept as the [wiki will tell you](https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Eidolon#:~:text=Interestingly%2C%20Eidolons%20are%20also%20possessing%20spirits%20in%20Greek%20mythology%2C%20and%20they%20could%20control%20mortals%20

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
The common opinion on VSS, at least in this forum, is that it can be caused by a multitude of things. Identifying your cause is the first step towards finding ways to reduce or eliminate your symptoms. In a video on YouTube dr. Shidlofsky mentioned he found 4 subgroups of VSS patients; those with a high commonality towards migraines, those who have had a concussion/TBI, those with anxiety/depression and finally ββotherββ such as stroke patients. Other causes Iβve read in these forums are use of prescription drugs, recreational drugs (HPPD), vitamin deficiencies, neck vertebrae misalignment, COVID, noise induced tinnitus that has led to development of VSS later on, Lyme disease, copper toxicity, mold toxicity and the list goes on and on. And then of course patients who have had this for as long as they can remember.
In this post I would like to discuss anxiety, stress and panic attacks as a causal factor in VSS. Firstly because I believe this is the cause for me personally, and secondly because I keep reading other peoples stories who also believe this is what triggered or caused their VSS.
My personal VSS story in a nutshell: I never ever experienced anxiety in my life, I didnβt even grasp the concept of having anxiety. I thought the slight nervous feeling before giving a presentation in front of a big group or asking a pretty girl out was what they meant by anxiety. This summer, at 29 years old, I had a random panic attack. No triggers whatsoever. This led to more panic attacks in the days after, this led to a state of constant anxiety. Waking up nauseous and nervous as hell every morning, getting lightheaded just by going to the supermarket, being afraid to go anywhere really. 4 weeks of daily panic attacks. Floaters appeared in the first, all other VSS symptoms appeared in the fourth.
The thing is, my anxiety has been greatly reduced since then, panic attacks donβt happen anymore, maybe some minor waves of anxiety that im able to control pretty well. However, my VSS symptoms have not reduced at all. And this is what I keep on reading here from others as well. Getting control of anxiety and stress does not revert the VSS that it has caused. Something has happened, has changed in the brain, and reverting that is not as simple as getting over your anxiety.
So what theories do we have for anxiety/stress/panic attacks as cause for VSS?

Hello guys! Hope you're all doing well. In this post, I'll be reviewing the Missha Aqua Sun Gel and Minimalist SPF 60+ Sunscreen. A bit of personal info:
Age and gender: 22/Male
Skin type: Oily
Climatic conditions of my Area of Residence: Currently Dry (Hyderabad Climate for reference)
Skin Shade: Dusky (match NC45 on the M.A.C. Line)
Retailer(s) of Products Reviewed: Beauty Barn India (for the Missha one) and Minimalist Website
Picture of the products:
The two sunscreens I'm using currently
So, here's my experience:
MISSHA Aqua Sun Gel: I purchased this from Beauty Barn India for a price of Rs. 950 (for a quantity of 50 ml). Considering the price vs. quantity ratio of other K-beauty sunscreens, this one is relatively more affordable. Ratings: SPF 50+, PA++++. I have been using this for over three months.
I LOVE this sunscreen! I have a dusky complexion and this does not leave any white cast at all, and my skin doesn't look greasy either! It is not heavy on my skin and in fact leaves a cooling effect (like that menthol coolness). If you have combination/oily skin, do give this a go! I will definitely repurchase this as and when I run out of it.
I'll certainly accept that it is expensive, I really wish it retailed for a price of about Rs. 600 at least. So I reserve this for fancy occasions. I purchased this when I was living in Chennai (notorious for its humid climate) and even then this did not disappoint. I tend to sweat profusely and I'm glad to say that this product did not pill (not even under some light makeup to give me an even-looking skin).
Minimalist SPF 60+: I love this brand and was really thrilled when they announced the launch of this product. This one is claimed to contain newer sun protection filters. Rating: SPF 60+, PA++++. It retails for a price of around Rs. 590. Certainly affordable compared to the one reviewed earlier, but of course there are cheaper ones out there.
So here's my experience: I really love this sunscreen, it too doesn't leave any white cast though it is a bit heavy on my skin. I have been using this for about three and a half months. Initially, it gave me a slight tingling sensation upon application which persisted for a few minutes (the same sensation I had when trying out vitamin C for the first time; TO Vit. C + 23% HA for reference). This sens

Like many of us, I've been following obesity research for a while. I just listened to the latest episode of Maintenance Phase, in which they discussed the complicated and fraught field of research into the relationship between mortality rates and weight. It reminded me of reading I'd done earlier on how the BMI categories are currently skewed downwards, and that there may actually be better health outcomes for being in what is currently the "overweight" BMI category, and that we're not seeing significant adverse outcomes until we hit Class 2 obesity and above. What fascinating is that we are NOT seeing this info out there in the world very often. We get either extreme--you must be as low as possible, OR, there's no causal relationship between weight and mortality and dieting is always bad. My own experience with doctors at my University hospital is that they really only care about my weight if it gets closer to a BMI of 35.
My larger rant is WTF, why can we not get good, sound research that filters down to actual good policy and advice and instead we get jerked around by journalism and the general cultural conversation?
Here's a summary of the scientific debate. TL; DR: It's a battle of the meta-analyses. Different data sample sets yield different results. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2013/02/weight-and-mortality/
At any rate, we are all trying to make good choices in this very confusing (for laypeople) research field and trying to balance ideal weight with lifelong sustainability. Within that context, is there anyone who is deciding to settle in the upper limits of "healthy" or within "overweight?" I'm curious to see if there are people out there making this calculations and deciding that for them, that is the best place to be.

(an article from Randonautica news feed)
Have you ever thought that the world that other people see may be different from yours? Or why you havenβt seen your former classmates for years, despite the fact that they live next door? Or why people who have similar qualities are more likely to end up in the same places, or come up with the same ideas, at the same time? Let's try to find the answer to these questions in this article.
The human brain is designed in such a way as to perfectly adapt decision-making algorithms to the tasks that we face most often. This allows us to save energy and not be distracted by what is not important. We remember which solutions helped us to achieve success and begin to apply them in all similar situations, forming a kind of pattern. The more often this pattern is used, the stronger it becomes, and the more situations the brain begins to conform with these solutions, ignoring small details and differences (i.e., βwhen all you have is a hammer, every problem begins to look like a nailβ). This applies to both the choice of routes and visits to certain locations, what things we pay attention to, and which we do not notice at all; at what time we go out, how we react to different situations, and what meaning we give to our observations; what we consider useful, and what we try to avoid. Many patterns define conscious engagement with reality such as beliefs, methodologies, skills, and principles, and many are applied reflexively when we do something "automatically" β because we are used to it.
All these patterns, when put together, form our unique reality tunnel - a limited frame of perception of the environment through which we see the world around us and within which we interact with it. The analogy is simple enough: when we are in a tunnel, our vision is limited by its construction. It creates something like a personal matrix, but unlike a simulation, this matrix is a part of the real world: the only illusion here is the belief that we see the whole world, and not just a part of it.
The structure of such a tunnel is able not only to determine what we see around us, where we are more often, and what details of the environment we pay attention to, but also what we do in these places and, as a result, what happens to us in there. For example, if your friend is incredibly lucky and often finds money
