A list of puns related to "Buwei Yang Chao"
How to Cook and Eat in Chinese by Buwei Yang Chao is a cookbook and introduction to Chinese cuisine and food culture. It was first published in 1945. It has been called "the first truly insightful English-language Chinese cookbook". Much of the text was written by her husband, Yuen Ren Chao. The first line of the book, in postmodern fashion is "I did not write this book". Much the book is written with this witty language. The book also coined the commonly used English terms for Chinese cooking techniques such as "stir fry" and "pot stickers"."
I was watching a vlogbrothers video and John Green recommended this book. It sounds super interesting, way ahead of its time, but has out of print for decades. Copies on amazon are very expensive. Does anyone have a digital copy of the book to share?
Since I was a teenager I've been consumed by Chaos theory. As I've studied more and more philosophy, science, and math, it's become clear to me that there is a universal duality (and even a trinity concept) throughout existence. It permeates all religions and philosophies. The trinity concept is represented as the the flow, relationship, or transition between that two ends of this duality. I think this is pretty standard to those who understand more eastern philosophies, but I've come to marry it with many western philosophies, too.
Everything in the universe is somehow reflective, recursive, symmetrical in this duality. We see this duality in the nature of math, the fundamental particles of the universe, and up to the scale of blackholes. We see it in abstract concepts, emotions, music, and in daily minutiae of life.
I grew up extremely protestant Christian. I'm an atheist now, but since coming to this realization I've come to appreciate the Bible even more. This isn't to say that I believe in a traditional, literal interpretation. I'm currently engaging in some of my Christian friends to show them how some of the concepts in the Bible permeate their superficial understandings of who and what Jesus/God represent.
What are your thoughts?
It has the same principles (different actors) and same vague outlines of the plot, but was quite different. Actually I think this movie was better written and had better character development. Also I was quite impressed with the CGI (which they used loads of, thankfully the animated critters all looked pretty natural).
I did like some elements of the other movie but overall, this one is the one I would recommend that others watch.
Can anybody tell me what is the origin of this franchise? Is it a videogame?
ETA: thanks to tigerskeleton identifying the IP, I found [this video which explains the Japanese folklore behind Onmyoji] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JcjgY1yc-s). I found it super helpful. Btw, 10th century BCE! I'm impressed. (also that idiot who said Inuyasha was the first hanyou in Japanese culture was clearly wrongo bongo)
So can someone explain how exactly did the "Four Lords of The Warring States" inspire Lu Buwei/Ryo Fui in making his " academic analogue "?
i just don't see the connection, so comment your thoughts.
Hope someone can help clarify this confusion for me.
I'm under the impression that Yang is suppose to represent "Chaos", while Yin represents" "Order.
Based on their characteristics alone, you can see why I came to this conclusion:
Yin:
Darkness
Moon
Feminine
Shade
Rest
Earth
Matter
More material/dense
Yang:
Light
Sun
Masculine
Brightness
Activity
Heaven
Energy
Non-material, rarefied
As you can see:
Yin is more material and form-oriented, while Yang deals more with energy and activity. I often read about people saying that Yang is "Order" and Yin is " Chaos", but based on what I just said, wouldn't the reverse be more accurate?
Has anyone watched the movie? Did I miss the discussion?
Hi everyone,
I would love some help bringing to life some principles of my life I have been reflecting on. I am not a very artist person so I'd love your help :)
I am trying to capture the two following concepts in a Yin/Yang Tattoo that could go on my left chest.
Ideas in text form, symbols, and pictures for inspiration are welcome, as well as your own art!
Order. Order to me represents routine and self improvement. It represents stability. I go through some bipolar phases and the stability of a routine is very meaningful to me and something I want to remember.
Chaos. Chaos to me means freedom and exploration. It means extremes and a bit of madness.

Hey. I'm hacking a game based on ruralpunk, and there is an element of balance between two opposing concepts: the Machine and the Wild, with humanity walking a fine line in the middle. Each character may grow an affinity with one side of the balance, or walk the human path, staying in the middle.
Obviously, walking down a path will open up new possibilities for the character (like cool stunts), but should also come with a sense of strangeness.
Also, the Balance could alter the environment, as places and scenes could tip toward one side or the other.
How would you represent that with Fate, so the game mechanics serve the story? Would the regular fate economy + some carefully chosen aspects be enough? Would you add some kind of double-headed stress track? Has it been tackled by other games, as the trope is quite common?
