The title describes what is going on. Whenever I am turning slowly such as in a parking lot I hear loud clunking coming from the rear end. I might as well point out that it also clunks when going into reverse (I have to put it into neutral for a few seconds before shifting into reverse to prevent this) but not drive.
I would like some guidance on what steps to take to get this repaired, and if possible, some knowledge on what could be happening. I am assuming it could either be terribly worn drum brakes or more likely, a bad limited-slip differential.

I posted about the weird deposits in my coolant tank earlier, but I thought I should start posting about this project now. This is my third RMW since 1997 (they were made from 1991-1996). The current car was one-owner from FL and purchased in 2013, and has been my daily since then. I've done a few small projects on it, audio, noise deadening, swapping for a bluetooth-equipped factory receiver, etc., but two months ago I was towing a trailer and hit a deer (RIP) at 70mph, and about 30-40 min later it overheated and broke down (small gash in the radiator).
I love these cars! Corvette engines. Seats like La-Z-Boy. A 4x8 sheet of plywood lays flat in the back. I have decided, wisely or not, that this will now be my project car. Not doing a frame-off, but hoping to do a decent restoration. I am in the process of putting detailed plans together, but I expect to remove the engine, have it fully rebuilt, and repair, then repaint and "re-wood" the exterior. Wish me luck!
So for my first car, I've been looking at a '96 roadmaster estate('96 for OBDII) with the trailering package. I have two questions. How esay/hard is it to keep up the air ride, and how reliable is it(also how easy/hard is it to swap to conventional suspension, and should I)? Second question is I've heard that it doesn't have the rear sway bar, but I've also heard that it does. Also before you comment. I know what else the trailering package has. Cop motor, cop shocks, cop brakes, and anything else the Blues Brothers could ever want.
