A list of puns related to "Bridgewater Associates"
Anyone here familiar with the role of Investment Engineer at Bridgewater Associates? I have a first round interview coming up but know little to nothing about the role and couldn't find much online.
Was curious to see if anyone here has experience with this role, or worked/interned at Bridgewater, and the impact it can have on my career (new grad). Thanks!
Many of the things now happening the world—like the creating a lot of debt and money, big wealth and political gaps, and the rise of new world power (China) challenging an existing one (the US)—haven’t happened in our lifetimes but have happened many times in history for the same reasons they’re happening today. I’m especially interested in discussing this with you so that we can explore the patterns of history and the perspective they can give us on our current situation.
If you’re interested in learning more you can read my series “The Changing World Order” on Principles.com or LinkedIn. If you want some more background on the different things I think and write about, I’ve made two 30-minute animated videos: "How the Economic Machine Works," which features my economic principles, and "Principles for Success,” which outlines my Life and Work Principles.

EDIT: Thanks for the great questions. I value the exchanges if you do. Please feel free to continue these questions on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter. I'll plan to answer some of the questions I didn't get to today in the coming days on my social media.

Has anyone been through the interview process for a Trading Associate role at Bridgewater?
What can one expect?
Any insight on the job / interview process / comp would be great!
Here's the report, much more useful than the obsessively debated articles about Ray Dalio's affirmations.
From Wikipedia:
"Bridgewater Associates is an American investment management firm founded by Ray Dalio in 1975. The firm serves institutional clients including pension funds, endowments, foundations, foreign governments, and central banks.
It utilizes a global macro investing style based on economic trends such as inflation, currency exchange rates, and U.S. gross domestic product. Bridgewater Associates began as an institutional investment advisory service, graduated to institutional investing, and pioneered the risk parity investment approach in 1996.
As of January 2021, it had approximately US$150 billion in assets under management."
Now, you may or may not agree with Ray Dalio's vision, but this report represents a rare pearl of market analysis on Bitcoin, making comparisons with gold and other metals, US Treasury bonds and equities. It also features metrics on futures, exchanges and wallets. A very interesting read, in my opinion.
Where did Ray Dalio put Bridgewater's money? The 13-F he filed today (https://fintel.io/i13f/bridgewater-associates-lp/2020-03-31-0 ) shows that he reduced all his public equities exposure by 60%. Thanks in advance!
AMA question: Good afternoon Ray, With the fed buying corporate debt, money being pumped into markets, and economic cost of lockdowns, do you believe current equity prices are “a house of cards” with higher inflation coming and what would you advise to hedge? All the best.
Ray's response: I believe that with the enormous amount of debt and money that has been created and will be created in the future, the most important thing to pay attention to is the value of debt and money relative to the value of assets and other currencies. I described in my book "Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises" which you can get free here, the monetary policy that is going on now, which I call monetary policy 3 (MP3) and which is the central government borrowing a lot of money that the central bank prints to direct it to where they believe it needs to go. I know that this is necessary now and at the same time know that not enough attention is being paid to whether this debt and money is going into things that will produce broad-based productivity gains. As for stocks, they compete with bonds. With bond interest rates where they are, bonds are trading at roughly 75x earnings. With the amount of money out there, and cash being such a bad alternative, there's no good reason that stocks couldn't trade at 50x earnings. You get the idea. Just like you never might have expected bond yields to be at or slightly above 0% (unless you studied history), you might not be comfortable with these kinds of multiples for stocks. However, all investments compete with each other and where would you prefer. I would recommend smart diversification in terms of a) asset classes, b) currencies, and c) countries.
