A list of puns related to "Breviary Of Alaric"
Blessed Lord's Day to yall. Just had some quick questions:
#1 - Breviary
I have long been wanting to start praying the Extraordinary Divine Office. Primarily because it's my main method of prayer and I get tired of praying the Psalms of Ascent for Terce and None every day. I realize they were prayed Tuesday through Saturdays before I think Trent, but still... Another reason is the suppression of Psalms and some of their verses which is totally contrary to 2 Timothy 3:16-17. I also know they supressed Prime and I don't know what to think about that since I heard it was made up due to lazy monks. Lastly my church prayers Vespers every Sunday evening, and sometimes Compline too so I feel pulled to make the switch and start going to the Offices later in the evening.
However Divininum Officium's translations... I just can't get over. I don't know why. Some people like the oldish translations but it drives me absolutely nuts. I've read Saint Augustines Expositions on many of the Psalms so I understand their meanings, that's not my problem, but the problem is that when I pray I am stuttering and trying to figure out like half the time what the heck I am saying.
Are there any breviaries, print or media, that have a more modern translation?
#2 - Lord's Day
I was wondering about the moral judgements on doing these activies during Lord's Day, if you could rate them either as 'neutral', 'disliked', 'venial sin', or 'mortal sin'.
Working paid labor on the Lord's Day
Doing school work on the Lord's Day
Supporting some one elses paid labor on the Lord's Day (buying or trading)
Exercising on the Lord's Day, beyond just talking a brief walk to prevent being holed up in house
Engaging in activities I've already paid on another day on the Lord's Day (such as a video game subscription)
Doing unpaid labor such as working on building a house with friends (just an example)
Doing housework on the Lord's Day beyond something necessary like throwing out trash if there's something rotten in it
And I was also wondering if these same judgements would apply to non-Sunday Holy Days of Obligation. Thanks!
I have been wondering if that was why he said that line.
Also, In that scene, it didn't seem right that Hope compared herself to Wolverine, when she is more like a Jean Grey. (To be fair though, her wolf side does make her a bit like Wolverine!)
I mean he clearly knows that Vardemus was the one that gave Josie the spell that broke Ethan's arm and that there's something seriously wrong with him. Like I know he started the school for them but there's obviously something wrong and it's exactly the opposite of what he wanted for them
Also it just dawned on me that as long as they don't siphon anything they aren't a danger to anyone, so they could easily blend in
Any guesses.

Review:
The Breviarium Romanum. Nova et Vetera did an absolutely fantastic job. They created a brand new breviary in the two volume style that was popular immediately before the council (as opposed to the four volume sets that were popular in the earlier 20th century). There was no popular set before the council like this, since everyone had switched to the Pian Psalter. They undertook to create a work that truly understands how one prays the divine office and how that book needs to be structured.
The book is brilliant. The greatest of care was given above all to layout and ease of use for prayer. No, there isn't a lot of artwork. What is there is nice, but there isn't a lot. On the other hand, when you pray from this book I can count on one hand the number of times I am forced to flip back a page to find what I am looking for. They avoid reduplications constantly to save space but also put everything so clearly where a person familiar with any breviary could find it. The six ribbons seem insufficient, but honestly I only ever use three or four. At the very front of the book on very thick pages has most of the often used canticles, psalms for Sunday, and the most used invitatories. There are also inserted prayer cards contain even more information should you need them (let's be honest, we all sometimes need help with which benedictiones I need for matins). Also, unlike the breviary from baronius press, the psalter is in the middle of the book. These being the most high use pages, it should hold up very well overtime. I have only had mine a couple years, but despite frequent use, the pages have held up well and the ribbons are good, other than the one I caught in a backpack zipper once on a plane.
My advise for ordering is to skip the slipcase because its a little clumsy and big and there are some other options out there that I like better, but get the old hymns and the American insert (if you're American). I don't often use the old hymns because I like using the ones integrated in the text but it is nice to

Name and house: Alaric of house Stark (Osric Starks nephew)
Age: 18
Culture group: First man
Appearance: Alaric Stark has a average Stark look to him, with black hair, a strong build and a stronger jaw, the only thing that set him apart from his family is his light blue eyes, which he most likely inherited from his mother. His demeanor is stoic but friendly, except when he gets his hands on ale then he is rude, loud and more often than not, violent; not a good thing to be for someone of his skill in arms.
Gift: Commanderskills: Swords, shields.
Negative traits: Addict (Northern ale [Read bleach])
Starting titles: Member of house stark (somewhere in line for the throne of winter)
Starting Location: Winterfell
Alternate characters: Aelor Staegone.
Born to Beron Stark in 357 AC the little Lord Alaric Stark was a good child, never complained about the work he had to and never was jealous of his cousins. His life was normal, he learned war, he learned to fight and he learned from his family that honor must be held above all else. When he turned 14 he decided that before he met all the lords and ladies of the north, he should first meet its people. So he and toured the north with his brother Cregan, from white harbor to bear island, from the neck to brandon's gift and in this time he even stood atop the wall and stared out at the edge of the word. A great many things happened on their tour of the north and Alaric often liked to remark that there was not one occasion where Cregan failed to make trouble; His Brother was a good man, but a little too quick with his actions and that often lead to conflict.
Once he returned at age 16 he was a different man, he had aged a little too much in those two years away, Alaric often would take to the comfort of ale and his relationship with his brother was far from what anyone would call positive, now they mostly just avoided each other, but no one really knows what soured their relationship . Only one thing had changed in the better while he was away; He now cared for the peasants more than he ever had, he had seen families starve and babies freeze in the dark cold of winter and so he made a pledged to himself that if he ever could help the smallfolk he would, no matter the cost.
So for two years Alaric perfected his skill with the blade and his knowledge of war for two whole years, leaving the castle only on the occasional charity mission if there had been a bad

Chapter Two
La Tienda
In the early nineties, before the age of cell phones and text messages, there were small plastic communication boxes carried around by most people called pagers. Operation of said device was simple. Pick up a phone, dial a number, wait for the tone and leave your own number as a message. The recipient would receive your phone number as a sort of proto-text message and call you back.
Alaric paged his dealer but instead of a call regarding where to meet to pick up the bag, he was made aware of a shortage. His dealer was dry.
In these instances there was a place you could go, a plan B so to speak. A place known only as La Tienda or The Store depending on the company you were in, it was never out of product and it was ALWAYS open.
Downtown, off Interstate 35 near Nogalitos street nestled deep within a neighborhood, stood a small blue house better know as La Tienda. In front of this house there is a driveway, but you must never park there, there is a front door but you must never approach it and a doorbell you must never ring.
These were the rules, passed down from friend to friend in a long line of protocol and superstition. La Tienda was open to all, but if the rules werenβt followed, you could easily get your ass kicked or worse, wind up dead, your body found by kids walking to school the next day along the railroad tracks bracketing the neighborhood.
Or so the story went.
Alaric never made the trip alone. Normally he was among friends on those nights the party lasted a little longer than anticipated and certain party supplies ran low, they would all pile into someoneβs car and make the pilgrimage. Tonight he was forced to make a solo run. He had been there before but typically La Tienda was a place to hit at three in the morning full of liquid courage.
Tonight, alone, unsure and stone sober, he found visiting La Tienda a more formidable undertaking.
Alaric parked his beat up Chevy Cavalier at the curb, as per the rules, and immediately he noticed things were amiss, the rules had been breached. A long white Lincoln sat menacingly in the driveway that should be empty. This strange event gave him pause.
He sat in the car and considered his next move. That little voice of reason in his head chimed in, arguing that he should turn around and leave, he should wait for his normal guy to call back to let him know he was restocked. That little

Divininum Officium lists the antiphons and psalms for the day of the week but the Common of Several Martyrs outside of Paschaltide instructs Psalms of Sunday with special antiphons.
To confuse matters for me the Little chapter, hymn, and antiphon for the canticle on Divinum Officium are those of the Common of Several Martyrs outside of Paschaltide.
What am I missing? TIA.
All the breviaries produced in the 50s and early 60s have a horrid translation of the psalms unceremoniously replacing St. Jerome's version. Baronius publishes a version with Jerome's psalter... It could easily be a single volume (or two slim volumes), but no, it's three, because half of the space is taken up by the English translation.
Is anyone publishing an edition without the English? Seems like such a waste of space. The breviary is supposed to be a handy thing. The obligation is to pray it in Latin. If you want to learn Latin by praying the psalms, that's great, but you can use the internet for that. Looking at a translation mid-recitation is really not ideal. In fact the older manuals would say that delays in the recitation were venial sins. So having the translation is just a temptation to become distracted. The breviary is not for study, but for prayer!
Also one volume is cheaper than three.
In my personal opinion Alaric would be better off as an enhanced original as he was in tvd. They pulled the stupidest excuse to make him human again but hereβs why I think it would make sense for him to be an original again.
He controls a school full of supernatural with a crossbow and has other plans in store in case someone disobeys him, I doubt he could hold his own if a gang of supernaturals or a creature decide to end him then and there and none of the super squad was around to help him. Him being an enhanced kind of gives him a purpose to stay on the show and help in a real way rather than just be like βhey hope, I need your helpβ.
Now before you go ahead and say βno, he wasnβt happy as an Originalβ.. stop. Alaric barely lived as a vampire and didnβt even get to learn how to control his urges, as for personal choice or happiness... You could argue none of the Originals, Damon, Elena, Cami and Bonnieβs mom wanted to be a vampire and thatβs just from the top of my head. This would be a twisted way to force Alaric to pay for all the fail safeβs he had in for the supernatural bu turning him into a supernatural. Because frankly a human whoβs opinion is biased on the supernatural shouldnβt be in control of a school full of supernatural.
He did a good job and I'm thinking about letting him in tomorrow. Probably won't give him any administrative promotions though. Lol hopefully he won't be too pissed about it.
I learned the tale started with this paragraph written 100 years after the event started it all:
>Where the adversity of the Alaric was, said to himself: what he would do, would consider it, he was suddenly overtaken by an untimely death and departed this life. 158That too much self mourned Busentus near the city of Consentia its derivatives from β¬ "for this stream by the foot of a mountain near the city of flows with its wholesome Γ’ β¬" is now in the midst of its prisoners bed to dig into this pit Alaric, together with many treasures, and then turned the waters back into their channel, and the place is not to be known by anyone, at times, all the miners, killed them, and in the reign of the Visigoths, the diggers and minds of your kinsman in the form of commonly-agreed, and they will deliver; although they do not: for it was built so tall in stature, as much as the beauty of face and body do or die.

Okay so I loved season one Alaric, but was anyone else just waiting for him to be revealed as a vampire? I feel like they were trying to trick us into thinking he was one. First he had the Gilbert ring, which seemed pretty suspicious and then when he hung out with Jenna for the first time and he took her home he was standing outside the door and Jenna was like you know what, Iβm not gonna let you in (because of Jeremy) but still that and the serious music that followed that statement made me sure that he was a vampire and had a lot to hide. Anyone else?
After Alaric died and came back to life, he would be impossible to kill. Yes he was made with the immortality spell but white oak was not used, Elena was used has his life source, so after he came back and was not bond to her anymore, wouldnβt he be truly immortal.
First off, holy shit, that man ages well. Anyways, as for his character, the poor man has so much going on. Goddamn, poor him. I know he wasn't the greatest father or anything, but I feel bad for him. Anyways, I just finished season one of The Vampire Diaries. Holy shit it's so different. I think I like both Legacies and this, they are good in their own ways, which is nice.
In the final season of TVD we find out Alaric is still following Kai on Twitter five years after Kai ended his waifus laifu with a knifu. So heβs probably still following him right? If Kai comes back I hope we find out by a twitter notification showing up on Alaricβs phone at the end of an episode.
