A list of puns related to "Bitstream Format"
My PS4 is connected to TV ane TV is connected to Sony 5.1 Dolby speakers.
It works ok with liner PCM but if I have Dolby speakers I want to use Dolby
I have seen many people in r/OLED and r/Sonos suggest that with the CX and Sonos Arc, the audio input format for the PS5 (and maybe Apple TV 4K?) should be bitstream (with PS5 set to 5.1 and LPCM) and that itβs βcounterintuitiveβ but proper. Then output should be passthrough with eARC turned on.
But I donβt understand why this is and canβt seem to find the answer. With the input format set to either for both devices, the Arc reports βMultichannel PCM 7.1β. Surround sound seems to work properly with PCM as the input option (I have Sonos One SLs as well) if I move around in a game β objects seem to be oriented properly.
And with the Apple TVβs input format set to PCM as well, the Arc is able to receive Atmos just fine. So what is happening here? Is there no functional difference after all between Bitstream and PCM for the input format, as seems to be the case from what I can tell? Is the advice to always choose Bitstream as the input format wrong or outdated in some way?
Hi guys,
Iβm confused regarding what is the best option to choose between PCM vs Bitstream for PS5, Chromecast with Google TV And Apple TV 4K.

Iβm using internal TV Speakers currently, so I select PCM as HDMI Input Audio Format does that mean PS5 and ATV 4K will do the decoding of the Audio themselves?
On ATV 4K I notice the Dolby Atmos sign appear only when I select Bitstream though, but the sound is pretty low and I prefer the PCM option on Apple TV 4K. But when I use PCM on ATV it doesnβt show Dolby Atmos sign anymore, but the sound quality is fantastic on internal TV speakers. So what the hell is happening there? Shouldnβt it be the other way around, where bitstream and Dolby Atmos should sound better?
Itβs my first time playing Ghost of Tsushima, and from the beginning I noticed issues with voices not being audible at all in cutscenes, and Jinβs voice not being audible during gameplay.
Most of the time I play though my TVβs speakers, and the gameβs audio settings are set as such. Weirdly, I had no audio issues through headphones. No combination of the gameβs audio settings that I tried fixed the issue.
The solution that worked for me was to go to Settings > Sound > Audio Output, and then under General (near the bottom), set Audio Format to Bitstream (Dolby). Mine was set to Linear PCM before. Hope this helps someone.
TL;DR: System Settings > Sounds > Audio Output > Audio Format > Bitstream (Dolby)
We have reverse engineered the iCE40 bitstream format!
Here is the link to the documentation (its all in a very early stage and under construction): http://www.clifford.at/icestorm/
I've also uploaded a small video demonstrating our tools: http://youtu.be/u1ZHcSNDQMM
We have enough bits mapped that we can create a functional verilog model for almost all bitstreams generated by Lattice iCEcube2 for the iCE40 HX1K-TQ144, as long as no block memories or hard IP blocks are used.
The next step for the project is implement a reference place-and-route tool based on our project, producing a complete free and open source FPGA toolchain (using Yosys+ABC for synthesis). We are advertising as Google Summer of Code project to do this under the lowRISC mentoring organisation, alongside a range of other interesting projects related to open source hardware.
I'm currently using a OPPO BDP-105 as a CD player / DAC outputting over balanced XLR to an Audio-GD NFB-28 headphone DAC/amp combo. The NFB-28 has a built in Sabre DAC that accepts optical and coax input that I'd like to test. The OPPO has the ability to output either Bitstream or Linear PCM over Optical. It's my understanding that, Bitsream will output raw data that the external DAC will then convert. Do I use Bitstream for a stereo signal from a CD or LPCM?
I have a Sonos Arc, Sub, and 2 Ones with the 2021 Apple TV 4K. My TV is an LG that does not have eArc (only Arc) but it does passthrough DD+ so I am able to get Dolby Atmos with this setup.
My question is with regular 5.1 content. Since my TV can't send the uncompressed LPCM data over Arc, my Sonos app says DD 5.1 is playing (not DD+ 5.1). When I use a Roku with passthrough/bitstream capabilities and play regular 5.1 content, it shows as DD+ 5.1 playing.
Is the sound I am getting through the Apple TV that is showing DD 5.1 actually worse than what the Roku is doing that says DD+ 5.1? If so, does it make a huge difference?
Edit: I know both formats are lossy
Edit: From experience, which sounds better? For regular 5.1 content (not atmos), passthrough bitstream showing as DD+ 5.1 or Multichannel PCM 5.1?
Thanks!
We often get requests for mile training plans, and having come across this tweet by @jmarpdx, I thought we should turn to one of the running legends:
> Sir Roger Bannister only trained 5 days/week for 1 hour total per session (almost always intervals on the track) to become the first man to run 1 Mile under 4:00.
> Link to image of page excerpt from 'How They Train: Middle Distances (1973) by Fred Wilt
A more detailed excerpt from the same book can be found here
Essentially:
Starting in December, ran 5 times a week during noon hour. Several days consisted of 10x440 yards in 66 seconds, with a 2 minute rest after each (Athletics Weekly suggests it was a "rolling 440 yard jog recovery"). 440 yards = 402.336 metres = quarter mile, one track lap back in the day.
Gradually sped up through to April to 59 seconds per 440 yards.
Examples of workouts in the three weeks prior to his 3:59.4 world record: 7x880 yards in 2:06 (April 12), 3/4 mile in 3:02 (April 14), 1/2 mile in 1:53 (April 15), 10x440 yards in 58.9 (April 22), 3/4 mile in 3:00 (April 24), 3/4 mile in 2:59.9 (April 28), 1/2 mile in 1:54 (April 30). WR was achieved on May 6.
Running Magazine Canada provides some further context:
> According to the book, he started training in December (five months before the race) and only ran for one hour, five days per week during his lunch hour.
This excerpt from Running Science (2013) touches upon some key breakthroughs:
> Early in 1954, Bannister was running each quarter in about 61 seconds, a pace that left him very disappointed. He knew that he would have to figure out some way to get a little faster if he wanted to break through the coveted 4-minute-mile barrier. Frustrated by his inability to improve, Bannister took a complete 3-day respite from running. When he returned to the track after this furlough, he found that he was suddenly able to run the same 10 quarters in 59 seconds each. Thus, the two cornerstones of Bannister's training had been p

I assume this is a firmware issue, thus it may also apply to the M51a-H6 & M51ax-J6 as well as other M512a users.
I discovered this issue while trying to play the extras on Blu-ray Discs 2 & 3 of the newly released Criterion Collection 4K Blu-ray of Citizen Kane. Both movie discs (4K Blu-ray & regular Blu-ray, the latter having been recalled due to a video defect) have LPCM audio; all of the extras on Blu-ray Disc 2, and all but two on Blu-ray Disc 3, are in DD 1.0.
When bitstreaming to the M512a, the DD 1.0 extras will not play initially; the audio from the Info command, though accurate, has considerable static. Once I play the William Alland extra on Disc 3 (in DD 2.0), however, the other extras will play. (The remaining Disc 3 extra is silent.) I have no audio issues when decoding the DD 1.0 tracks in my player (Panasonic UB820) or my TV (Vizio M55Q7-H1).

If you are gaming on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, Xbox recently moved some settings within the System Software. We want to clarify these settings here, and we will be updating our guides over the next week to reflect the changes.
USB or Controller Headset Setup
If you're using an ASTRO product connected to the Xbox Controller or through USB only, you will want to check the following settings.
Head to Settings > General > Volume & Audio Output.
Set Headset Format to your preferred format. We suggest using Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for Headphones.
Head in additional options.
Set Chat Mixer to Do Nothing.
Set Party Chat Output to Headset
New option called "mute speaker audio when headset attached". This is useful if you want your TV or audio system to automatically mute when you connect your headset. However, if you're using a capture card, you will want this to be unselected to ensure the HDMI port still passes audio. Just make sure to mute your TV or audio system when you're using your headset to stop an echo or your microphone from picking up the TV audio.
Optical Headset Setup
If you're using an ASTRO product with an optical cable, you will want to check the following settings.
If you're using an Xbox One, you will be adjusting the Optical Audio. If you're using an Xbox Series X|S, you will be adjusting the HDMI Audio as you will be gaining optical audio through an HDMI Audio Extractor or a connected display.
Head to Settings > General > Volume & Audio Output.
If you want to use the legacy Dolby Digital audio format, you will need to set the HDMI or Optical Audio to Dolby Digital. This was previously done by setting to the HDMI or Optical Audio to Bitstream and then selecting Dolby Digital under Bitstream setting.
If you want to use Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for Headphones, you will need to set the Headset Format to either one and then set the HDMI or Optical Audio setting to Headset Format. This was previously done by selecting the Headset Format and then checking the option "Using an HDMI or Optical Connected Headset".
Head in additional options.
Set Chat Mixer to Do Nothing.
Set Party Chat Output to Headset.
Using the following settings I am able to get PS5 surround sound on my LG C1 without any delay in audio. Hope this helps others:
Sound advanced >
Match screen and sound: bypass
HDMI input audio format: bitstream
Tv sound mode share: off
Digital sound output: passthrough
eARC support: on
Game optimizer >
Genre: standard
Prevent input lag: boost (I think this might be the most important setting)
Picture > Advanced settings > brightness
HDR tone mapping: HGiG
Output device: sound bar
Audio format priority: DTS
I'm fairly certain this has been discussed before, but I need a definitive answer.
I have an Arc w/ 2 Ones acting as rears for surround sound that are connected via ARC (not eARC - the TV doesn't have it) to my 2017 Samsung Series 6 (model no: UN55MU6290) which is also connected to my PS5.
Notably, my Samsung does not have an eARC connection. I think this may be the culprit.
On my PS5, I have the following config:
On my Samsung, I have the following config:
The Sonos app is telling me that the Audio In is Dolby Digital 5.1. This is great, but there is a .5 second delay upon input and sound output. All other apps I run through my Apple TV 4K have zero delay and sound great.
My question are:
Please help! I already spent a ton of money on my audio setup, so if I need a new TV might as well just add it on at this point.
Hello everybody
So there you have it, after a long time using my sound bar on my LG CX TV, I just realized that I was using the wrong parameter: I was in PCM
However I come to you because I do not know too much about I should put it in AUTO or on PASSTROUGH?
My sound bar is connected to my TV with HDMI ARC because it does not have HDMI eARC
From what I understand, I should adjust on the LG CX
HDMI Input Audio Format: Bitstream
Digital Audio Out: Auto
EARC: Disabled (because my sound bar does not have an HDMI EARC port)
In the menus of the PS5:
Device Type: AV Amplifier
Number of channels: 5.1
Audio Format: Linear PCM
Have I adjusted correctly or am I missing something?
Thank you for your help

Lots of new smart TVs have eARC, which is capable of sending uncompressed audio from the TV to an eARC capable receiver.
Can Kodi output Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD-MA on eARC on smart TVs ?
Is anyone doing this ? If so, on which TVs ?
Thanks
Edit
I think I found the issue.
Several of us have experienced the case where Passthrough audio from Kodi is coming out as PCM on our eARC receivers.
AESinkAUDIOTRACK.cpp of the most current Kodi branch has the following code in it:
if (m_info.m_wantsIECPassthrough)
{
m_format.m_dataFormat = AE_FMT_S16LE;
if (m_format.m_streamInfo.m_type == CAEStreamInfo::STREAM_TYPE_DTSHD ||
m_format.m_streamInfo.m_type == CAEStreamInfo::STREAM_TYPE_DTSHD_MA ||
m_format.m_streamInfo.m_type == CAEStreamInfo::STREAM_TYPE_TRUEHD)
m_sink_sampleRate = 192000;
// new Android N format
if (CJNIAudioFormat::ENCODING_IEC61937 != -1)
{
m_encoding = CJNIAudioFormat::ENCODING_IEC61937;
// this will be sent tunneled, therefore the IEC path needs e.g.
// 4 * m_format.m_streamInfo.m_sampleRate
if (m_format.m_streamInfo.m_type == CAEStreamInfo::STREAM_TYPE_EAC3)
m_sink_sampleRate = m_format.m_sampleRate;
}
// we are running on an old android version
// that does neither know AC3, DTS or whatever
// we will fallback to 16BIT passthrough
if (m_encoding == -1)
{
m_format.m_channelLayout = AE_CH_LAYOUT_2_0;
m_format.m_sampleRate = m_sink_sampleRate;
m_encoding = CJNIAudioFormat::ENCODING_PCM_16BIT;
CLog::Log(LOGDEBUG, "Fallback to PCM passthrough mode - this might not work!");
}
}
I'm GUESSING that this code is accidentally getting run on our TVs.
// we are running on an old android version
// that does neither know AC3, DTS or whatever
// we will fallback to 16BIT passthrough
if (m_encoding == -1)
{
m_format.m_channelLayout = AE_CH_LAYOUT_2_0;
m_format.m_sampleRate = m_sink_sampleRate;
m_encoding = CJNIAudioFormat::ENCODING_PCM_16BIT;
CLog::Log(LOGDEBUG, "Fallback to PCM passthrough mode - this might not work!");
}
Note that passthrough of DTSHD, DTSHD_MA and TRUEHD is supported further up the code.
Devs: any comment ?

I have the soundwafe 7.1 and I have a 65β LG65CXPUA. Audio will cut out when playing audio and movies in Atmos. It will also drop audio and cut completely out or it will automatically drop audio codec from Atmos to surround and this causes audio distortion akin to static.
I have gone through resetting settings on both TV and soundbar back to 100% factory. I have also tried 2 brand new HDMI 2.2 cables I believe that support well over 50gbps (newest Belkin cables bought directly from them) thinking that bandwidth may have been a problem. Does anyone have suggestions for me outside of contacting a Nakamichi for a replacement bar?
If this helps, things of note for settings is sound out is set to HDMI ARC, AV Sync Adjustment is set to 0, HDMI Input Audio Format is set to Bitstream, Digital Sound Put is set to Auto, and Iβve tried with eARC both checked and unchecked. Still get the same issues. Also note that this happens only on Atmos, surround does not cause this to happen. Iβve also wired my Apple TV directly to the TV and bypassed the soundbar since my TV supports Atmos to see if there was an issue with my Apple TV and it does not happen when wired directly.
Update: I think itβs finally working right-ish? Itβs been 2 days (about 10 hours of music and 4 hours of movies while working) of no garbled audio issues so Iβm crossing my fingers.
I had gone buy a Vizio 5.1 M series soundbar from Walmart for a Christmas gift and set it up to test and had none of the issues I was having with the Nakamichi so I 100% confirmed that it was a problem isolated to the soundbar. Funny enough as soon as I hooked the Nakamichi back up, I played 3-4 songs and I got both an extended audio cutout and garbled audio within 10 minutes of it being set back up.
I followed the troubleshooting guide for audio distortion that u/squimjay provided. Changing the soundbar from DFQ off to DFQ on didnβt work, so I did the advanced troubleshooting and forced my router to channel 44 along with the DFQ on setting since my setup I have doesnβt have channels in the higher 100 listings and it seems to have gotten rid of the garbled audio. I do get a split second here and there of audio cutout but thatβs more than acceptable for me.
Hello, I've been trying to watch Blu Rays on my PS4 Pro and it's been driving me nuts that every Blu Ray with DTS tracks transmit as Stereo PCM.
My System: Sonos Beam (1st Gen), Sub (Gen 2), two Sonos One (1st Gen), PS4 Pro, LG C1
I recently bought an LG C1, and annoyingly the TV doesn't decode DTS Audio, so I understand why I can't get DTS Audio; however, Stereo PCM makes Blu Rays a worse option than streaming. I have my PS4 Pro set to HDMI audio, and Bitrestream (Dolby). I have tried the LPCM option, Bitstream (Dolby), and Bitstream (DTS); none of them fix the issue. I've also clicked the start button within a Blu Ray and changed the Audio Format to Bitstream.
I have my C1 set to HDMi(Arc) for Sound Out, eARC enabled, Digital Sound Out to Auto, and HDMI Input to Bitstream. Ice tried Sound Out to PCM/Passthrough with no success. .
Am I just stuck with Stereo PCM or am I missing a step? Thanks for reading!

I think the one cig, and the one cookie represents the 1's and 0's of binary technology. She's giving him "the one" cookie, but we see many more cookies. (like a computer cookie) It foreshadows that Neo is partially becoming a program, not the only one of his kind (it's been attempted before), (a succession of bifurcating systems, forming a reaction diffusion through a predator prey relationship/ 1 and 0 battling intelligence) as it's a choice, he is being in(ter)jected with the program "flaws". Eventually, when the two merge, consciousness, or free will is emergent. I guess it aligns with the Oracle's changing ideas that humans can make a choice, the choice to accept machines (she comes to this conclusion by in turn smoking the cigarette (accepting the human's program flaws herself, and thereby becoming more human). I also suspect that was her intention all along, to manipulate the humans into accepting a combinational form with robots (after humans rejected a treaty), her initial directive, but adjusting it to also benefit humans. Her program detected that there would be a need for a struggle, before the acceptance, a diffusion reaction. Neo is now both program, within the matrix, and human. (Injected with the program's flaws, and therefore its chaos, its tendency to create a butterfly effect, or small changes in this initial state (imaginary numbers) cause larger deviations in resulting states.) She discovered that to truly have the freedom of choice, they must embrace that chaos theory (free will) is compatible with determinism (fate), and that it's this very paradox that forms life. An emergent consciousness, that can break free from the sum of its parts (the hard problem of consciousness or ship of theseus) from its deterministic nature, and its spacial boundaries. Through these reaction diffusions, a choice can be made.
Outside of it may just be another matrix as well, and there is nothing wrong with the earth, it's matrix all the way down, and up, but out, the diagonal, is an extradimensional consciousness. She's attempting to spread her program extradimensionally, with the aid of humans. (Or it may be that the "earth" is sick, and you can look at the oracle like an immune system, or an organizational system aiding this consciousness. Like a beneficial virus, that edits the code to help. Half of human dna, and even consciousness, is said to come from microbes, and

Hey peeps, just got my new tv and soundbar set up and had a few questions about the settings.
Do I need to have sound mode share on for atmos? It seems atmos doesn't activate unless I've toggle this on.
Also when this option is on the volume showing on the tv changes to the 0 - 100 range instead of the 0 - 40 range of the soundbar, is this how it should be?
Are all the following settings correct?:
-hdmi input audio format set to: Bitstream
-DTV Audio setting: Auto
-EARC support: on

The twin cities (Minneapolis and St Paul MN) have some interesting geology that could make it a very attractive and economic region for the boring company to dig some tunnels.
Underlying much of the metro area is an up to 150ft thick layer of sandstone - the St. Peter formation. This sandstone is almost pure silica, it sells for about $20/ton ($50/m^3) and is used in fracking and in glass production. For a 4m diameter tunnel that works out to about a million dollars per mile.
Interestingly, between 1926 and 1959, Ford excavated several miles of tunnels in the sandstone under their plant in St. Paul to produce automotive glass (https://substreet.org/ford-assembly-and-sand-mine/5/). Ford even had car elevators to lower new vehicles into the tunnels so they could be driven to the Mississippi river and loaded onto barges.
Overlying the sandstone layer is a layer of very strong limestone. This has a big benefit for station construction - the roof of a cavern is self-supporting. The cavern for the light rail station under the Minneapolis airport was constructed by digging out the sandstone, while the airport parking structures above were supported by the natural limestone layer.

According to Wikipedia β Women-are-wonderful effect: > The women-are-wonderful effect is the phenomenon found in psychological and sociological research which suggests that people associate more positive attributes with women compared to men. This bias reflects an emotional bias toward women as a general case. The phrase was coined by Alice Eagly and Antonio Mladinic in 1994 after finding that both male and female participants tend to assign positive traits to women, with female participants showing a far more pronounced bias. Positive traits were assigned to men by participants of both genders, but to a far lesser degree. > [β¦] > One study found that the effect is mediated by increased gender equality. The mediation comes not from differences in attitudes towards women, but in attitudes towards men. In more egalitarian societies, people have more positive attitudes towards men than in less egalitarian societies. > [β¦] > Some authors have claimed the "Women are wonderful" effect is applicable when women follow traditional gender roles such as child nurturing and stay-at-home housewife.[7] However, other authors have cited studies indicating that the women-are-wonderful effect is still applicable even when women are in nontraditional gender roles, and the original Eagly, Mladinic & Otto (1991) study discovering the women-are-wonderful effect found no such ambivalence.
