A list of puns related to "Bcs National Championship Game"
It has been a decade since Alabama and LSU played the game that many say killed the BCS system and paved the way for the present CFP system. On January 9, 2012 Alabama defeated LSU 21-0 to win the 2011 National Championship.
The game of course was a rematch of their November 5th SEC battle, won by LSU 9-6 in overtime.
The game was criticized on multiple fronts. First, many believed that Alabama did not deserve to be in the game, that someone else, like one-loss Big 12 champ Oklahoma State was more deserving of a crack at undefeated #1 LSU rather than Alabama getting a rematch. LSU fans also felt it was unfair to have to face the Tide again, arguing that they would naturally have more motivation. And still others thought that a rematch would inevitably be less interesting than a new matchup.
In the end, the game was one only a Tide fan could love. The Alabama defense Python-strangled LSU, holding the Tigers to just 5 first downs and 92 total yards. LSU did not cross the 50 yard line until midway through the 4th quarter, and didn't stay there long.
The great LSU defense also played valiantly, holding the Tide offense to five field goals, until Alabama finally scored an exclamation-point TD with just a few minutes left and the game long since decided. Alabama did gain 384 yards, mostly by having their QB throw quick passes in the flat to avoid the fierce Tiger pass rush and loosen up the middle for the running game.
The sight of two SEC teams playing in the title game, and a boring defensive struggle at that, convinced many that a new system for choosing a champ was needed.
Anyway, congratulations Crimson Tide!
Alright r/CFB, I want your opinion on this question: What was the greatest moment to happen in the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game or the College Football Playoff? A historic moment, a thrilling play that changed the outcome, a great performance, or some exciting football.
Here a few candidates from recent years
2005: Texas-USC. Needs no more explanation other than "Vince. Young. Scores."
2010: Michael Dyer's legendary "Was his knee not on the ground" run to set up Auburn for the win.
2013: Kermit Whitfield's 100-yard kickoff return touchdown to give Florida State the momentum late in the game.
2016: Hunter Renfrow catching Deshawn Watson's game winning touchdown pass.
2017: Sony Michel's direct snap touchdown run to send Georgia to the championship
2017: Tua Tagovailoa as a true freshman coming in to turn 2nd and 26 into the game winning touchdown pass
2019: Joe Burrow's seven touchdown passes in the first half to demolish Oklahoma.
What are some of your favorites? There have to be tons of great moment's that I missed. Let me know your favorite.
P.S. Georgia fans, I'm sure you can handle discussing 2nd and 26 after Monday's game.
Doing my best to adhere to bowl tie ins and selection process. Projected winner bolded or left blank if theres really nothing to pick one team over the other.
2014:
BCS (1v2) #1 Alabama v #2 Florida State
Rose Bowl (Pac/Big) #3 Oregon v #4 Ohio State
Orange Bowl (ACC/at large) #12 Georgia Tech v #7 Mississippi State
Sugar Bowl (SEC/at large) #9 Ole Miss v #6 Baylor
Fiesta Bowl (big12/at large) #5 TCU v #8 Michigan State toss up advantage TCU
(at large selection, Miss State to Orange, Baylor to Sugar, and Michigan State to Fiesta) there weren't really any other options lower ranked that likely would've been picked over these at large choices)
Results
Alabama wins the national championship likely over Florida State finishing #1 compared to losing to Ohio State who claims a 2nd or 3rd place finish and a rose bowl win.
2015:
BCS (1v2) #1 Clemson v #2 Alabama
Rose Bowl (Pac/Big) #4 Michigan State v #6 Stanford
Orange Bowl (ACC/at large) #10 Florida State v #8 Notre Dame
Sugar Bowl (SEC/at large) #14 Ole Miss v #9 TCU
Fiesta Bowl (big12/at large) #3 Oklahoma v #5 Ohio State toss up no idea the advantage.
(at large selection Notre dame #8 so guaranteed a bcs bid dont remember if there was a preference in at large picks but the matchup of oklahoma ohio state and florida state notre dame felt better.) #7 Iowa cannot be chosen as the Big 10 already sent 2 teams.
Results
Nothing too much changes with Alabama winning the championship. Michigan State instead of getting blown out by Bama likely gets blown out by Stanford. Oklahoma and Ohio State is potentially very good game.
2016
BCS (1v2) #1 Alabama v #2 Ohio State
Rose Bowl (Pac/Big) #4 Washington v #5 Penn State toss up advantage Washington?
Orange Bowl (ACC/at large) #3 Clemson v #14 Oklahoma State
Sugar Bowl (SEC/at large) #12 Western Michigan v #10 Florida State toss up advantage Florida State
Fiesta Bowl (big12/at large) #7 Oklahoma v #9 USC toss up advantage USC?
(at large selection is tough with the SEC only having Alabama eligible so Sugar is completely at large?. Big 10 has #6 and 8 ineligible because they have 2 conference teams ahead of them) so preference was given to viewership ratings. #12 Western Michigan earned an at large bid as well. Florida State is pitted against Western Michigan instead of a rematch with Clemson leaving the last AQ bid to either Oklahoma State or WVU and preference to Oklahoma State for th
... keep reading on reddit β‘I think it's unlikely to be anyone in the College Football Playoff era because they had to beat a top 4 team in a semifinal to make it there. I think that 2012 Notre Dame probably is it for me. They clawed out a lot of narrow victories against subpar competition throughout the season, they did have that one big road win against 10 win Oklahoma (who themselves were crushed in a non-BCS bowl by Manziel) and they were basically run off the field in the BCS Championship title game.
Anyone else a better pick?

I've been doing one of these posts every year since like 2017, figured I might as well update it after their 5-0 record last season.
Since Saban's second year in 2008, Alabama has a 84-5 home record. In those 13 seasons, the five teams that have beaten them in Tuscaloosa:
Those five teams beat a combined nine P5/AQ conference champions. Alabama lost those five games by an average margin of 4 points.
This year, Alabama's home slate is Mercer, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU, New Mexico State, and Arkansas.
Thoughts???
Couldnβt find this anywhere so I did it myself

Hereβs the thing, A 10-2 Wisconsin team was at #3 and had beat Nebraska head to head, they went onto the the Big Ten championship game. I figured that would move them past Nebraska, but noβ¦ They stayed at 2 and played #1 (GUESS WHO) Army in the national championship game. I watch some of these game(sim to end) and it was tied in the last minute. 9-3 Nebraska made it to Armyβs 20 yard line roughly with about 30 seconds leftβ¦ I figured they would kick the FG and winβ¦..
BUT NOOO.. they throw an INT in the red zone⦠go on to LOSE in OT. Finish 9-4. Army wins Natty.

Of the 11 FBS teams with at least 60 wins this decade (2010 season through 2015 season), only three have not appeared in the BCS National Championship Game or in the College Football Playoff. Those three teams are: Boise State, Northern Illinois, and Stanford.
Stanford is the only P5 team with 60+ wins this decade to not appear in the BCS National Championship Game or in the College Football Playoff.

Stanford has established a consistently competitive program but has not managed to make it onto the biggest stage (BCS NCG/CFP) despite its 65-15 record this decade.
Is Stanford the new Virginia Tech? Did Stanford steal the mantle of "almost thereβ from Virginia Tech in the 2011 Orange Bowl?

TL;DR Stanford: Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Stanford may be the new Virginia Tech.
Thanks.
I am continuing my ongoing off season Friday posts of games in the last ten years. Previously I did the Chick Fil A Kickoffs and every one of Alabama's losses. This week I decided to link every national championship game at the FBS level over that time. As always I will include the commentators for the game as some folks like to avoid certain individuals.

The other team, Stanford, has never appeared in the BCS National Championship Game or College Football Playoff.
*Note: "this decade" refers to the 2010 season through 2016 season.
**Side Note: These four teams account for all but one of the national championships won during this decade; the other national championship was won by Auburn during the 2010 season. Despite sporting only a 60-32 (0.652) record this decade, Auburn has one national championship and two BCS National Championship Game appearances.
