French Garrisons Assaulted, Hanoi Barracks Bombing Kills 36!
Headlines across the country read of the ongoing insurgency. Morale for French troops was improved for a time after General Charles de Gaulle arrived to personally lead the war effort, however, the constant bombings, sniper attacks, and propaganda had begun to take a toll. The French had to rely on their locally recruited troops to maintain garrisons, and it wasn't long before Communists which were recruited into the garrisons staged mass uprisings. Most of these were simple affairs to put down, but as the French regulars began to question who they could trust amongst local garrisons incidents of French-on-Auxiliary violence began to occur.
A garrison at the city of Δiα»n BiΓͺn Phủ staged one such uprising, the several of the local battalions of native troops, who were communist infiltrators, launched an offensive against the French regulars stationed in the city. In what would become known as the "ΔΓͺm tα» thαΊ§n", or Night of Death, over 400 French regulars were killed in their sleep and the city fell to Communist control overnight.
Fighting continued for the next several weeks as many of the loyalist native troops attempted to retake the city, however it was only once French regulars arrived en masse that the city was able to be retaken, over three thousand French and loyalist troops were killed in the fighting, and most Communists who survived the battle were able to evacuate hidden amongst the local population.
The State of Vietnam has expressed its concerns to the French government over what seems to be widespread infiltration of their military, and perhaps that more restrictions, or more foreign or French troops would be able to prevent the Communist infiltration from collapsing the entire front. The fighting was brutal, and overall French forces have barely managed to hold on to their territory as Viet Minh launch concentrated pointed assaults from the jungles without warning. Simply put, the French forces are unable to effectively fight the Viet Minh, because they simply cannot see the Viet Minh.
Summary
French Forces maintain control of all previous territory
French morale sinks as guerrilla warfare takes its toll, and communist infiltration of Vietnamese troops causes suspicion
French supply lines are strained but are able to repulse Viet Minh assaults
*Viet Minh expends significant resources, will need to secure supplies from foreign sponsors, or from raiding Fren

Am I likely to get stuck here if I don't leave now?
Hey everyone! I'm looking for some specific information about the VUS centres in Hanoi and can't find the info I'm looking for using the search function here.
I'm moving to Vietnam (Hanoi) in November to be an English Teacher for 2-3 years. I'm currently in the process of finishing my TEFL certificate. I've done a fair bit of research and have decided I'm going to apply to VUS first with a preference for Hanoi. However, when looking at the application I've noticed you can choose three campuses under the 'Location Preference' section. I have no clue which centre locations to choose from out of the five (or should I just leave it to chance?):
Has anyone worked at these locations before or is anyone familiar with the districts? Any recommendations or are they much of a muchness? I have heard that your experience teaching can vary drastically within one company depending on which centre you work at. Until I can ride a bike in Vietnamese traffic, I'm hoping to live close by to the centre or in a district where I am able to travel to the centre relatively easily.
I also had one other question in regards to VUS (asking for a friend), does anyone have any clue how much a Vietnamese English Teacher might make? I've seen here that TAs might expect to get anywhere from 23k-95k/hour (not much at all) and Expatriate Teachers are somewhere around 460k/hour net starting at VUS (or is it 490k?), but can't find any info on possible hourly rates for VUS Vietnamese English Teachers. That, or I can't google very well.
Any help at all is much appreciated! Thanks :)
