Is there anyone who lives in Lesotho on this subreddit? I see alot of questions concerning Lesotho here (obviously) and often only with few replys in a meager "im dont know for sure but maybe this: "
It makes me wonder if there are any people from Lesotho here? And how thus subreddit became to be.
Hi everyone!
A friend and I are trying to shoot a documentary on pen pals. We are trying to find pen pals from all over the world. All different countries, religions, walks of life. We want to meet people with all kinds of life experiences. We are looking for snail mail - written letters sent through post. I understand some places in the world this is extremely time consuming and maybe not even possible due to the postal situation but we are willing to make this a long process for the sake of story so there are no time constraints.
We will be looking to enter the film into film festivals depending on the final format will depend on where this is shown in the end.
What we are looking for -
Preferably someone with a great story that is willing to exchange written and mailed letters back and forth for an extended period of time.
Someone willing to take part in some form of video correspondence as well (not a deal breaker)
What we will not do -
Share any kind of personal information like full name or address in the film. We will only share first name and country of origin
Share any information you do not wish for us to share - (I.E. - If there is a topic in your letter you don't want us to reveal just let us know)
I want to be completely open and transparent as possible so if you have any questions definitely ask!
We will give each participant a viewing of their segment to sign off on that you are comfortable with what we say and show.
If this is something you feel like you would be interested in please feel free to PM me or start a reddit chat and I can answer any more questions you have or give you an address to start!
Thank you for reading this and look forward to hearing from you!
The recent foundation of the Southern African Association for the Eradication of HIV/AIDS in South Africa has largely been a success, with the Durban-based group able to give medical help across the afflicted parts of South Africa with relative ease, thanks to South Africa's well-developed infrastructure system. The nation's railway networks allow for both goods and services to be transported from the HQ to afflicted rural and urban areas, and the well-maintained line between Durban and Johannesburg is especially important for ensuring good health in the second-most afflicted city in South Africa.
However, the ease of transport within South Africa is not necessarily mirrored quite as well when considering South Africa's neighbouring countries. While we acknowledge that this is certainly no fault of their own, the SAAEA has raised some concerns over the poor quality of infrastructure in the region impeding the efficacy of their organisation. Of largest concern is the railway network of Lesotho - or more accurately, the lack of a railway network. As of the current circumstance, Lesotho has a single railway terminal located in Maseru, which connects solely to Bloemfontein, South Africa, as seen here: South Africa Railway Map. This is awkward for SAAEA for two reasons: firstly, while the distance between Durban and Maseru is only roughly 350km, the shortest rail route is actually over 800km long, which is inefficient for the organisation in both cost and time; secondly, the rail network does not provide connections to other Basotho population centres, such as Teyateyaneng and Thaba-Tseka, and as such SAAEA has encountered difficulty in bring aid to these locations.
To remedy the above issues, the South African Government brings a proposal to the Government of Lesotho. It is as follows:
The Southern African Railways Association (SARA) will construct a rail network connecting Pietermaritzburg, South Africa to Maseru, with an additional line connecting Mafeteng to Teyateyaneng. The two rails will intersect at Roma, Lesotho. In total, four new stations will be built, at Mafeteng, Roma, Teyateyaneng and and Thaba-Tseka. A visual representation of the new "South African-Basotho Rail" is provided here: South African-Basotho Rail (red).
This will require roughly 300km of

The XNC, after a number of brutal fights with the BNC at the border between their control, managed to take a border town. With a population of 30,000 the town was nearly levelled by XNC artillery. However, it was with a quick swoop that the government forces managed to intervene and prevent the XNC or BNC from taking control of the town.
However, during the XNC retreat, they managed to capture a large number of Basotho soldiers. With a quick and efficient attack on their lines, they retreated to the XNCHQ. Today, they released a video of 13 of these men executed on video. It has been broadcasted all over the media to encourage men and women to help the effort.
The BNC have come to a breaking point. No longer will we face oppression. No longer will we fight for our rights. Why? Because we are free! It does no matter how the battle goes! We are free, independent and beautiful!
The BNC, controlling small portions of the country, have decided that creating a Lesotho independent Republic is crucial to defending their rights as Basotho people. They demand total economic, political and military independence from the South African central government.
Map of BNC/South African Control
BNC: Red
South African Government: Green
The BNC is weak in most parts of the country, however they have a prominent rural control in the center. However, in the North and East, they control the cities of Maputsoe and Mokhotlong, crucial population bases. There is heavy support in the urban areas of the South African control, but the military is being used to put it down.
The BNC is expected to get stronger and stronger by the hour. The Government works hard to prevent them, but popular opinion appears to be turning as people begin to dislike the oppression and martial law in the cities.
The Basutoland government is in tatters. With nearly all of it South African spies and sympathisers, they haven't fared well in preventing riots and rebellion in the land. With a bloated budget spent on corruption and a failing beaucracy, the local government grew weaker and weaker.
National intervention by the central Johannesburg government would be inevitable. So, a week ago, President Colin van Schwartz himself issued an edict to take full control of the government status of Basutoland, and establish a proper protectorate government.
The people did not respond well. Made from ANC exiles and failures, the ANC in Basutoland founded the Basotho National Congress. With the elements of returning to Lesotho independence, black nationalism and ending fascism and economic dependency in the region.
The government has banned the party from running in local or national elections. Members are to be arrested and sent to a Panopticon to be reviewed for any crimes they have committed.
We are watching closely.
About 3000 members of the Basotho tribe of Basutoland living in Capetown began a large rally, demanding autonomy, rights and greater freedom for the Basotho people from the central Johannesburg government.
The rally, led by Basotho Nationalist Thabane Loti, began early in the morning. Without having warned the government or officials, the rally was plotted beforehand. The main leaders remained anonymous, either observing the rally or simply staying at home for safety.
However, with the rally on the way, they were stopped within a few hours. The protest was not violent, but then a Basotho nationalist got into a scuffel with a young white man. The police then intervened, using tear gas, rubber bullets and water.
Fortunately, there were no casualties. However, 74 people were harmed and sent to Capetown Hospital. The rest of the people have been arrested and sent to a Panopticon style prison to be reformed.
In Basutoland, there has been an uproar. Protests grow larger by the day, as members of the military and police refuse to follow orders. The government finds it harder and harder, as the local Basutoland government resigns to help join.
Autonomy may be discussed.
