A list of puns related to "Basedow"
Salutari,
Diferenta e ca tata are glanda tiroida scoasa.
Title says it all. I was diagnosed a few days ago and trying to figure this out. I heard itβs more difficult to get pregnant and more likely to have miscarriages.
Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this?
In the AnKing deck, it says...
What effect does excessive I- intake have on thyroid hormone secretion?
{{c1::Decreases secretion (Wolff-Chaikoff effect)}}
However, what about the jod-basedow effect? (Basically, the exact opposite of Wolff-Chaikoff from excessive Iodine [or Iodide] intake.)
This is a question purely about the naming of the disease. In Europe it is mostly called M. Basedow and in english speaking regions mostly Graves-Disease and I was wondering who of the two men would be more deserving of the eponym.
So, I've only read the english and german wikipedia articles on this and this is what I've gathered:
Robert James Graves was one of the first to describe the disease in 1835 (G. Flajani (1802) and Caleb Hillier Parry (1825) did so before him along with some others). Carl von Basedow described it in 1840 so he was clearly behind Graves in that regard.
But the way they described it and how they interpreted it was also different: Apparently they described the same symptoms but Graves interpreted it as a disease of the heart while Basedow interpreted it as an "imbalance of bodily fluids" (this is my translation from the german wikipedia article; he called it a dyskrasia) which, to me, sounds like a better interpretation than the one by Graves. Basedow also treated it with iodine-containing Water which gives him another plus-point.
To summarize:
For me personally Basedow wins this one i feel like (see the edit again) but please tell me about things I've missed or misinterpreted.
EDIT: I just assumed the dyscrasia was an early understanding of endocrine disorders but I didn't realize that this was refering to humorism (the thing with blood, yellow, black bile and phlegm) which would be an extremely rudimental understanding of endocrinology at best. So I now it seems that Graves might have deserved the eponym a little more.
Can someone explain how these seemingly opposite phenomenons can co-exist?
Does excess Iodine increase or decrease thyroid hormones?
Thanks!
Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Didn't this guy die? now he's up for a Twitter award, weird turn around haha
Does anybody remember the old John Basedow commercial where he talks about sculpting your "back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, and even abs" ?
There is so much content from him. But, this one took my brothers and I FOREVER to find.
Enjoy.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Nothing, he was gladiator.
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
When I got home, they were still there.
