I just watched the new season of The Simpsons. Here's the plot, I believe it's a bit of a stretch. Burns is a self-absorbed, selfish man, who is in love with his wife, who, unlike him, is the typical nuclear family.
Here is my theory: Burns' relationship with his wife is not the same as the one he has with Bart. Burns' wife is the one who is raising Bart, while Burns is running the nuclear power plant. Bart is the son of the typical nuclear family, and I believe Burns' relationship with his wife is a relationship with a son, not an actual family. His relationship with his wife is the same as any other nuclear family, but he does not love her as much as his own children. That's why Burns is such an asshole toward her - because he doesn't love her as much as he loves any of his children. He has a relationship with his wife and children, but he is only with his children. This is why he is so cold and cruel toward his wife in season 3. He is just as cold and cruel toward Bart. I believe that's why he is so cold and cruel to Lisa. She is the child of his wife, and his wife is the one who is doing all the raising.
Since The Simpsons uses a sliding time scale Bart is always 10. For the newest episodes he was born in 2010. Homer's age less consistent but he's never more than 40, so he was born in 1980 at the latest. Grandpa is 83, so he was born in 1937. Me Burns is usually 104 so he was born in 1916 relative to the new episodes.
When Bart is adopted by Mr. Burns, one of the most absurd things in his playroom is a toy train that he claims "sometimes comes back with snow on it."
Is this toy train connected to a trans-continental railway? Is it fake snow? Is it not snow at all (wink wink)? Who built it? Did it predate Bart's adoption?
I have so many questions.

The episode starts with Bart and Homer watching Top 1000 Outrageous Explosions on the youtube channel WatchStupidCrap. They are basically orgasming at all the explosions, which annoy Marge and Lisa. Marge goes to her room and realises Patty and Selma were right. She cries. Homer goes to bed and goes on and on about that YT channel, saying other inane Top 10s and Top 1000s like "But Marge, they also uploaded Top 10 Potatoes that Look Like Richard Nixon!!!" Marge keeps silently weeping, and flash backs to when her sisters told her she made a huge mistake.
Lisa meditates in her room in front of Buddha. A spirit of peace emanates from him, then grows and envelopes Springfield. Now it's the next morning, and Homer goes for a run. He runs alongside Flanders, and is happy to see him. He apologises to Flanders for all the stuff he borrowed and never gave back, plus insulting his religion and laughing at Maude's death. Flanders is over the moon, and invites Homer for breakfast, but Homie says he will eat with his family.
At the kitchen table, Bart worries because he didn't finish his homework, and says he will do it on the bus. Homer offers to buy Marge art supplies so she can draw Ringo Starr again. Marge and Lis can't believe what they're hearing.
On the bus, Bart tells Milhouse how much he appreciates him, and does his homework. When Nelson tries to bully someone, Bart asks him politely not to, and tells him he will help him find his dad.
On the way to work, the morning show goons Homer listens to announce they are changing their format, and instead will be about helpful discussion for Springfield residents. At work, rather than just sittin there, Homer studies the machine in front of him, and tries to learn as much as he can.
Burns invites Smithers and his gay lover to dinner and tells him there would be a surprise. Smithers fears for his life.
Homer calls Marge at lunch and tells her to buy whatever supplies she wants. he will pay for em. He then texts the kids to tell em they're gonna play baseball after school, then Krusty Burger.
After school, the Simpsons play baseball at the park with Milhouse, Nelson and a few other kids. Meanwhile, Burns gives Smithers and his bf the surprise: a 100mil donation to LGBT causes. Smithers is so excited, he suggests they announce this at City Hall.

I was watching The Simpson's S2 E22 "Blood Feud" and realized that Bart's favorite crowbar "Old Bluey" from S9 E08 "Lisa the Skeptic" was given to him as a present from Mr. Burns with which to open the crate containing Xtapolapocetl, the ancient Olmec head.
