Lipoprotein(a) significantly increased after taking Atorvastatin for 7 months! What to do?

Has anyone here had their Lipoprotein(a) increase after taking statins and if so, what did your doctor say (ours is useless; see below)?

In December 2019, my spouse's Lipoprotein(a) was 61.1 and attempted to change diet and exercise. It lowered down to 51.3 in May 2021 but still considered "high" (LDL was high too) so doctor put him on a Atorvastatin right away. He did another lipid panel last week and the Lipoprotein(a) shot up to 65 - higher than it was two years ago! The LDL was lower and when we asked the doctor why the number went up they replied with, "I'm not a lipid specialist. I do not know why the number went up." - seriously? So basically she is no help and is the one who prescribed this!!

We have an appointment with a Cardiologist for some guidance but it's a few months out. :( Thanks for your help!

What happens if you take way too much atorvastatin?

The box only says you should contact a doctor, but I wanna know what are the actual risks if you overdose.

Ritalin, clopidogrel, atorvastatin with lsa

Would 40 mg extended release ritalin with a low dose of LSA extract like 100-200 seeds be bad for the heart of on extended release ritalin? Would it make atorvastatin more hepatotoxic 20 mg mid range atorvastatin dose?!would it increase or decrease bleeding from clopidogrel?

I've heard that stuff that inhibits cypA4 enzyme would decrease its ability to thin blood which is probably safer than increasing it if your getting a stent as a precaution and to allow you to no longer take statins. I used to get angina when 14 stone I'm now 12 stone and since the statins and clopidogrel hardly ever get heart pain. No arryhtmias detected, still waiting on angiogram for extent of heart disease, hopefully its just one plaque in one area where a stent can be fitted age early 30s. Height 5ft 4. Male.

There is an incidence of ritalin causing heart attacks at a ratio of 2 in 10000 which was a case study analysis of 120k Korean children, limitations of study was that their was an usually high prevelance of heart arythmias, congenital heart disease and ischaemic heart disease which makes the risk for these populations 6 in 10000 but that's assuming that the 2 in 10 stat proportionately is caused by this sub population. Haven't been able to see full study so don't know if those 52 heart attacks in 120k study 100 percent occured in at risk groups which made up 33pc of study or not.

Contrary to this, a population study showed that ritalin was not associated with any increase in total risk for heart attack, arrythmia or sudden cardiac death including atrial and ventricular fibrillation. A certain number of people die already each year from such cause and no more people occured these events as a percentage of population in exposed and non exposed populations for medicinally used doses of ritalin.

For what it's worth my own opinion is that the us population study is not sensitive enough to detect minor changes in total risk and the case study is too oversensitive for negative events without reference at all to how many of these would occur without initiation of ritalin or other weak medically controlled extended release formulations and other such drugs.

I suspect their is more risk from crushing up half a 40mg tablet than taking the full 40mg extended release which is about 2mg an hour. But still not massive. I suspect if u cut an extended release tablet in half it no longer is fully extended release but it would not all enter the blood stream all at once. Crushing it co

My wife needs help and the local Doctors haven’t found anything yet. 25F 5’3” 235lbs, currently taking Atorvastatin (40mg) for high cholesterol and Chlorthalid (50mg) for high blood pressure. And no longer smoking but drinks a few beers every night.

Hello everyone! As the title in the post states, my wife has had some serious chest pains these past few years. Her symptoms include:

  1. Chest pains right where her sternum is.
  2. A few years ago she had her gallbladder removed due to gallstones and according to the surgeon it β€œlooked a little sick”
  3. she gets the chills and the cold sweat while she’s having the pain.
  4. She’s telling me right now that when she’s having the pain she’s in agonizing pain like if it’s getting squeezed.

If there’s anyone out there willing to help I can answer any questions!

A little back story: she started getting them very mildly while she was pregnant with our first child towards the end of the pregnancy. They didn’t take full effect until a year after they started. She’s seen several ER doctors, some have said it’s a simple β€œheart burn” while the next said it was her gallbladder. There was a Gastroenterologist in Wichita KS that didn’t bother to look into it. After all that she had a visit with a different doctor and he did the whole scope down the stomach procedure, they found no ulcers...

Right now she’s having a mild episode and I can’t help but feel helpless.

Edit: she doesn’t drink every night anymore. Sorry about that.
