The deposition of amyloid-beta (Aβ) is a neuropathological feature of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Cordyceps militaris is an edible medicinal fungus in Asian countries with antioxidative, anti-aging, anti-tumor, and immunomodulatory effects. In this study, we studied the neuroprotective mechanisms of C. militaris in the brains of Aβ1-42-injected AD mice.

An intracerebroventricular injection of Aβ1-42 (total 3 µg/mouse) resulted in neurological damage, including amyloidogenesis and neuroinflammation; however, C. militaris attenuated Aβ1-42-induced amyloidogenesis and inflammatory response.

Oral administration of C. militaris at concentrations of 100 and 200 mg/kg suppressed acetylcholinesterase activity. In addition, C. militaris treatment downregulated the levels of amyloid precursor protein (APP), with a decrease in β-secretase activity. Moreover, C. militaris significantly enhanced the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor.

Further, C. militaris-administered groups inactivated inflammatory responses by downregulating inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 protein expression. The injection of Aβ1-42 resulted in the activation of p38 MAPK and c-Jun N-terminal kinase, which was rescued by C. militaris. These results suggest that the C. militaris has a protective effect against Aβ1-42-induced neurological damage.

I'm looking for some more detailed resources on Cordyceps cultivation. I've found two articles that are very basic, they do provide some info about growth parameters and recipes for growth media which is definitely useful.

My main question is how would cloning or spore collection work for a sac fungus? However a more detailed description of how cordyceps myc is supposed to look and behave would also be appreciated (I haven't been able to find anything about thermal death limits for example)

I am working on a summer project for my biology class, and I have to explain the reproduction of the Ascomycota phylum. This one makes no sense to me and I cannot find a good source for it. could somebody on here help me out. Thanks

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
