A list of puns related to "Armstrong, Iowa"
Hi everyone I only have a UK Ancestry subscription and so have been using Family Search for US researches. However, I was hoping one of you lovely people could run a quick search through ancestry USA (or other sites!) to see if anything helpful comes up to help with a brick wall personified in John W Armstrong.
Here's what I know: Hannah Jane Matchett (sometimes known as Hannah, sometimes Jane) marries Samuel Carlisle in 1855 in Poweshiek Co, Iowa. The index has her as K Y Matchett but pretty sure it's her. Hannah and Samuel have son George Ellwood Carlisle in 1857. Samuel dies before 1860 because at that point I find Hannah Jane with George living with her parents, widow. 21 Aug 1862, she marries John W Armstrong (our person of interest!) somewhere in Poweshiek, and their son John Wesley Armstrong (Jr) is born in 1864. In the son's marriage record he lists his birthplace as Browntown (?). I assume the elder's initial stood for Wesley too, but that's only an assumption. John W Armstrong Sr has died by 1866 because she then marries John McPherson.
The whole family stays in a roughly consistent area of Iowa during their adult lives; between Montezuma, Grinnell, Oskaloosa etc.
John Jr lists his father as having been born in Virginia on one census, and Ohio another; however he doesn't stay living with his mother and step-father very long (he's with his elder half-brother George in 1880) and so I doubt how much he really knew of his father who died when he was very small. They also mix and match their mother's birthplace regularly, so I think it was a guess! I also don't have the elder John W's birthdate - I assume he was between 18 and the upper end of fertility (!) when he got married and had his child, but that's not a huge help...
I know the logical step is to start ordering certificates but want to check I've exhausted online options first because I'm based in the UK. Any help appreciated as there are just too many John Armstrongs in the 1860 census to narrow it down, plus I don't know where he dies - it might not have been Iowa if he was involved in the civil war, for example.
The reason I bring this up is when I was looking at the Joe Gibbs website Tifft was scheduled to drive the 18 Winfield Toyota. Tifft said on his Twitter yesterday that he is still waiting for a timetable to return to racing. Since Winfield has been Armstrong's main sponsor for the last 3 seasons, and since Armstrong currently drives for JGL, could Armstrong be subbing for Tifft this weekend?
EDIT: It has been confirmed that Dakoda Armstrong will drive the 18 this weekend. Drew Herring will drive the 28, while Brandon McReynolds returns to drive the 24.

... keep reading on reddit β‘I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
It's bowl season in the college football world, which means the players have put just about as much tape out there as they possibly can. Once that happens it kickstarts my favorite time of the year - mock draft season. Mock drafting against yourself isn't the most accurate way to get an understanding of the consensus so this is going to be much more representative of what I think of these players and not as much what the whole community does. I think doing a mock with some of the regulars of this sub and having a bit more in depth explanation for each pick is something that the community may be able to benefit from. If that's something the people here think sounds like a good idea then it's something I would be happy to set up - but for now let's get into me vs me. I hope I win.
#1.01 Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
Something I not-so-subtly hinted at in my Meet the WRs post, Treylon Burks sits atop this class as my 1.01. If I find myself here in any of my leagues (which seems likely in a few) then I want Burks because I want someone with the potential to carry me. The other QBs don't project to have overall QB1 upside, and there is no Jonathan Taylor/Ezekiel Elliot level RB prospect. I think the player with the best balance of safety as a prospect and ability to finish the season higher than the rest lies with Treylon Burks. He's my pick and I feel great about it.
I haven't seen a draft with a more wide open 1.01, so if you want your pick of your favorite QB, be it Corral, Howell, Pickett, etc. then go for it. If you want Breece or Spiller, I won't fault you there either. I want Burks.
#1.02 Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State
This is essentially the same argument I just laid out for Burks, I just think if Burks was to land in say New England or LA (and the Chargers decide to move on from Mike Williams) then that would edge out Breece if he were to land in Seattle or Buffalo. Breece certainly has RB1 potential and could even be a perennial top 5-8 running back in the right spot. He has displayed great hands and could prove to be a major PPR threat.
#1.03 Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
Howell offers the most upside of anyone in this QB class in my eyes and so he is my first QB off the board at this point. There's still questions around the draft capital he might receive, as there is with every QB in this class besi

Welcome to the penultimate week of our college football season! In the patterns of modern television writing, the penultimate episode is where stories take their wildest twists and turns, or make their most dramatic exclamations. Itβs where we find The Red Wedding, Mad Menβs telling of the JFK assassination, Omar & Mouzone confronting Stringer, and Breaking Badβs Half Measures. All of these phrases should conjure up images for you -- indelible memories of some of the mediumβs most important moments.
Likewise, this weekβs college football matchups recall many great moments. The iconic windmilling celebration of the Michigan State kicker in The Horseshoe. The Band is On The Field! Kaelin Clayβs 100-yard gaffe. Rudy gets a sack.
Hopefully this week's script calls for some new classic moments. We have a loaded set of games, a veritable feast of action. Up and down Saturdayβs slate we have division champions being decided, playoff spots on the line, coaching jobs at stake, and legacies to be forged.
Below Iβve listed the weekendβs games, sorted by time slot for you to keep track. All times are Eastern, because, well, duh. Included is each teamβs rank in Bill Connellyβs SP+ rankings to give you a sense of the matchups.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
