A list of puns related to "Alexander Doyle"
Doyle Alexander was traded seven times in his career... once as a prospect for a Hall of Famer, and once as a veteran for another Hall of Famer!
Doyle was that rarest of breeds, the junk-throwing right-hander. He threw slow, and he worked slow, often to the annoyance of opposing batters, his own fielders, the umpires, the fans, and the announcers. He played for eight teams in 19 years, including two separate stints with the Yankees and Braves.
A total of 15 players were traded for Doyle Alexander, or for packages of players that included Doyle Alexander:
Frank Robinson (BAL, 1971) 107.3 bWAR
Pete Richert (BAL, 1971) 13.5 bWAR
Rick Dempsey (NYY, 1976) 25.2 bWAR
Tippy Martinez (NYY, 1976), 8.7 bWAR
Rudy May (NYY, 1976), 20.3 bWAR
Scott McGregor (NYY, 1976), 20.2 bWAR
Dave Pagan (NYY, 1976), -2.1 bWAR
Adrian Devine (TEX, 1979), 2.7 bWAR
Pepe Frias (TEX, 1979), -4.8 bWAR
Craig Landis (SFG, 1980), never made the Show
John Montefusco (SFG, 1980), 19.9 bWAR
Andy McGaffigan (NYY, 1982), 10.3 bWAR
Ted Wilborn (NYY, 1982), -0.8 bWAR
Duane Ward (TOR, 1986), 10.1 bWAR
John Smoltz (DET, 1987), 69.0 bWAR
I'm not sure how many players have bookended their careers by being traded for Hall of Famers, but it's surely unusual.
That's a total of 299.5 bWAR for Alexander (who had 35.0 bWAR himself). That's some return on investment!
In terms of hardware, he made his first and only All-Star Game with the Detroit Tigers at age 37 and never won a World Series ring. In fact, he only appeared in one World Series (1976), losing his only start (6.0 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 1 K). Overall, he was 0-5 with an 8.38 ERA in the post-season... a big reason why he's not so fondly remembered by Tigers fans.
Let's look at the hardware those 15 players accumulated:
Hall of Fame: 2
MVP: 2
Cy Young: 1
Rookie of the Year: 2
All-Star Selections: 27
All-Star MVP: 2
World Series rings: 10
World Series MVP: 2
NLCS MVP: 1
Silver Slugger: 1
Triple Crown: 1
Gold Glove: 1
Rolaids Reliever of the Year: 1
Batting Title: 1
ERA Title: 1
Doyle came up as a 20-year-old with the Dodgers in 1971, going 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA in 92.1 IP; the Orioles liked him enough that they insisted he be included in the deal for 36-year-old superstar Frank Robinson. (The other players the Orioles acquired -- Bob O'Brien, Sergio Robles, and Royle Stillman -- accumulated

II/ Fixing the gripes.
1) Making Jurassic World stand on its own feet
How would you make Jurassic World stand on its own feet? Be more than a soft reboot of the original Jurassic Park?
Genre
Jurassic Park and The Lost World are commonly considered as retellings of Frankenstein and Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World respectively, and thus, one could have made Jurassic World a retelling of one or several other stories, from genres untouched by the previous films if possible. But which one(s)?
If we keep the basic postulate of Colin Trevorrow’s story (open park + rampaging man-made apex predator), we have both a disaster and a monster film that depicts the sudden fall of an island-wide advanced theme park and the rampage of a giant reptilian monster with uncommon abilities.
Here, I would mix the park downfall’s plot from Jurassic World and the Sibo's eruption plot from Fallen Kingdom (the eruption plays out differently than in the latter though and has a different role), turning Jurassic World into an epic disaster/action-adventure/horror film with mythological references as it can reminds one the myth of the downfall of Atlantis (with the island-wide park being destroyed during a cataclysm) and various legends with dragons (Beowulf and the Nibelungenlied in particular) due to the presence of the dragon-like Indominus while the park would be an allegory for advanced societies and civilizations that ends up triggering or at least contributing to their own doom.
Aesthetic
Those mythological inspirations should be reflected in this reimagining’s aesthetics.
Due to the story’s Central American setting, the park’s main hub would have an architecture that mixes Mesoamerican (Mayans and Olmecs) and Spanish revival style inspirations along with a few elements inspired by ancient Mediterranean and Western Asian cultures (Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Minoans, Babylonians...) as direct references to the historical and some of the mentioned mythological inspirations.
This would offer a visual contrast to the dominant safari-aesthetic of Jurassic Park, which would still be present in other areas of Jurassic World while one of the hotels has an Indo-Sarace

The list below is copied¹ from a Word Perfect 5.1 file last modified in the mid-1990s, a few months after my birth. My mother spent considerable time researching names per family origins, so the majority of the list is likely the fruit of that labor, with a minority of names thrown in courtesy of my father.
The name selection & culling process began with each parent compiling personal lists of viable names; then, the lists were cross-checked for names they had in common. At the same time, certain names were vetoed. Names vetoed for me included:
Mom's priorities were avoiding names at high risk for cruel nickname derivations, and names at high risk for mispronunciation. For example, though she thought my (Greek Cypriot) paternal grandmother's name was beautiful, she expected Americans would mispronounce the second part as 'filly' and nickname me as such.
Ruling out both grandmothers' names for me meant not adhering to Greek naming conventions. They made up for this with my younger brother; so much for all the research into boy's names). I do want to point out that people have certainly mispronounced my surname throughout my life (+ subjected both it and my first name to misspellings), but ah well, so it goes.
¹ I've made minor formatting adjustments for convenience's sake and added gender headings, but otherwise haven't changed the content—typos left in!

I personally, despite being 23, have an old crotchety dry sense of literature by reading the classics. The thing is that causes my library to be 90 to 95% White and as a Black person that makes me feel like I'm committing an act of not being "Black enough". I feel like I'm not proud enough of being Black with my love of European and American classic literature that's mostly white. The thing is I was raised by my White Mom and White Grandma who taught my love of literature, through a small little library that only served a few thousand people and contains mostly white classics in the middle of nowhere Illinois. Now that I'm older I want more of the adventures that I read as a child, not deconstructions of race that a lot of Black authors have nowadays because I think about race in my daily life and use books as a decompress and escape. Now I'm trying to fill my library with Black authors but most of them contain swaths and swaths of race relations and topics I want to run from.
Can I have another Alexander Dumas for my library? I want adventures like those from Arthur Conan Doyle, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and so forth not the lists of 10 mist read POC writers who's books are like English class assignments that want me to turn my brain off.
Hi everyone!! I made a post the other day about how names might be perceived differently by people born in 1990 vs. 1960 vs. 1930. A great point that was raised by many commenters is that today's most popular names (chosen by parents born in 1990ish, aka Millennial Megan) seem to be like "Grandma/pa" or "old lady/man" names to their parents (people born in 1960ish, aka Boomer Barbara). So here's that data!
Below are comparisons of the name lists in 2020 and 1900. These are the names that were common among the age cohort that included both Barbara's grandparents and grandchildren (being chosen by parents today, e.g. Megan).

There's a really common stereotype that ESTPs are dumb jock types who can't rub two brain cells together. Basically that we're brute animals who react uncontrollably to the environment, hindbrain only. ESTPs can often be very intelligent, using Ti logic well and Se to learn new skills quickly. This stereotype results in a lot of smart ESTPs getting mistyped as ENTPs or ENFPs. This is annoying and wrong, so here's a list of really intelligent ESTPs.
* Please contribute anyone I missed (there will be many as my knowledge is finite). The lack of women is due to two factors. 1) ESTP males outnumber females at least 2-1 and 2) My interests lie almost entirely in characteristically male activities and histories and as such my knowledge is limited.

So the latest CY update was pretty exciting for me, and not just because of the occasional who-is-after-our-a-team-this-time mystery. I was surprised by quite a lot of literary references and thus wanted to talk to you about them.
Disclaimer: I won't go into Alexander wanting to be called Professor Lupin – someone else already posted about that and I’m sure Harry Potter doesn’t need any further explainations.

Alright, the first one’s easy: Alex sees Sam as John H. Watson, known as Dr. Watson, assistant to private detective Sherlock Holmes. As most of us know, both are fictional characters created by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Watson is Sherlock Holmes' best friend, assistant and flatmate. While Watson is described as an astute and intelligent gentleman, Sherlock has a rather eccentric and bohemian personality. Appropriate role allocation, right Alex?
Sam’s reply made me particular happy because his reference is much lesser-known. He calls Alexander Archie Goodwin who is another assistant to a fictional detective: Nero Wolfe. Both were created by American mystery writer Rex Stout and solve crimes in New York City. Goodwin is a sharp-witted, dapper young man with an eye for attractive women who narrates the cases and does the legwork for the detective genius. Again, nice role allocation, boys! Like Holmes, his boss Wolfe is described as a brilliant yet eccentric character. Unlike Holmes, he is oversized and acts as an armchair detective who does not personally visit a crime scene or interview witnesses. I always loved Stout’s mystery books and I’m glad they get referenced here! 💖

Next are Yorick and Horatio, both characters in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. Yorick is the dead court jester whose skull is exhumed by the First Gravedigger in Act 5, Scene 1, of the play. Horatio, a friend of Hamlet, is also present in that famous scene. The sight of Yorick's skull evokes a reminiscence by Prince Hamlet of the man, who apparently played a role during Hamlet’s upbringing: “Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is!“ Just the p

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.

... keep reading on reddit ➡I am currently in the hospital. I had a back operation yesterday. The surgical nurse came in my room and started asking questions about my back. She asked me if I had any falls during the last year. I responded just one. It was after summer.
She laughed and said in 20 years of doing this she never was told that joke.
..... Will get a reward.
1 - Jacksonville Jaguars - Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson - Lets be real, we’ve all known Lawrence is going 1 since last year. There's no point in even worrying about this pick. Mark it down and move to the next one.
2 - New York Jets - Zach Wilson, QB, BYU - It seems like Wilson has been on fire in recent weeks, jumping up the boards all the way past Fields and Lance to lock in QB2. Noted QB expert Chris Simms has spoken highly of him, the Eagles were reportedly trying to move up for him, and he absolutely impressed at his pro day. Seems like the pick here is likely already set too. If his shoulder is fully healthy, the Jets have themselves their QBOTF.
3 - San Francisco 49ers (via MIA) - Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State - The draft starts here. Will the 49ers end up going Fields, Lance or Jones? There's been a ton of smoke for Mac Jones, but I personally like Fields the most here. Dude is a gunslinger and quite deadly with his legs, a true dual threat QB who can cause serious problems like Watson or WIlson. He needs to improve his ability to read defensive coverages because teams will absolutely take advantage of that weakness in the NFL, but then again Patrick Mahomes won a Super Bowl while still learning to do that. In a system like Shanahan’s that is very QB friendly, I think the 49ers can absolutely minimize Fields weaknesses and turn him into the best QB that has ever played under Shanahan, like RGIII but better. (Note: imagine a 4.44 speed runner behind Shannys zone blocking too.)
4 - Atlanta Falcons - Trey Lance, QB, NDSU - There are a LOT of directions the Falcons could go here. Sewell is tempting, as is moving down and grabbing one of the top blue chip defensive players. But there is no time like right now to grab their QB of the future. Guys like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are the exception, not the rule, and even if Matt Ryan is still a solid QB, do the Falcons really want to end up being stuck as a team that picks 10-15 and is forced to make a trade like the 49ers have to move up to get a QB that might not even be as good a prospect as Lance is? They should strike while the iron is hot, especially since most of the other NFCS teams will likely be without top QBs in roughly 2-3 years and Lance presents the perfect fit for their timeline, as a raw QB who can sit a year or two and learn under Matt Ryan to develop. Out of all the QBs in the class, he probably has the highest ceiling, and could usher in the new era of Falcons dominance in the divis
