Zach Avery Puns

This is by far one of the craziest +/- I've seen. Lowe mentioned it in his most recent podcast talking about the Lakers. Bradley has looked really washed out there, but I didn't know it was this bad. I expect him to be waived around trade deadline. (It's around 1.00:00 mark)

He also talked about how the LeBron-Ad-Russ three-man lineup numbers look promising for the Lakers. (Around 43:00 mark)

Not earth-shattering, but encouraging. I think this 3-man lineup has a lot of room for improvement if they keep playing together. I'm wondering how the team will look like 10 games later.

There have been rumors of a possible expansion, so let’s imagine it does happen, but the NBA decides to only add one new team to the league (sorry Vegas), bringing back the beloved Seattle Supersonics. The Sonics are back babbyyyyyyyy!

Now the Sonics need to build their team from ground up, starting with the expansion draft, and following it with signing players in the off-season.

Here are some simplified terms of the expansion draft:

1. All 30 NBA teams will have the right to protect 8 players on their roster. Anyone on the current roster is protectable, including restricted free agents. If a restricted free agent is left unprotected by his former team, he is available for selection by the Supersonics, who would then hold his Bird Rights for the up-coming off-season. Teams will typically have 4-7 players unprotected. Unrestricted free agents can neither be protected from nor selected in the expansion draft -- they are essentially ignored.
   Players who are likely to be left unprotected by their former teams include aging, overpaid veterans, unproven bench players, players who do not fit in financially with their team, or who disrupt team chemistry.
2. The Sonics may only select 1 player per team.
3. The Sonics must work within 2/3 of the normal rules of the NBA salary cap, so there will be salary-related restrictions which apply to the team's selections. The team’s salary cap for the 2022-2023 season will only be 2/3 of the league cap (112.414 million), meaning 74.93 million. The minimum team salary is also 2/3 of the leagues' minimum team salary (101.173 million), meaning 67.449 million.
   The expansion draft occurs after the conclusion of the 2022 NBA Finals, but prior to the 2022 NBA Draft. The Sonics do not participate in the lottery, but automatically get the 5th and the 35th pick of the draft.
4. There are no restrictions on player positions during the draft.
5. The Sonics must select at least 14 players.
6. Here is a list of the players that each NBA team are, in my opinion, likely to protect, and a list of those who may be left unprotected (not all players are listed, but most of them, and all that have any chance of being drafted by an expansion team):

I won’t beat around the bush, might as well get right to it.

The instructions for the successful defense of the Tartarus mall are sure and simple.

First things first, ‘Tartarus’ ain’t actually the mall’s name. That’s just what I call the place on account of the store I have to guard. I won’t tell you the mall’s proper name for security reasons. But yeah, so one of the stores in the mall is called ‘Tartarus’, and this store is perpetually closed. I’ve never seen it open. A metal sheet lives across its door and its window displays are always empty. Boarded-up, even.

The instructions, to put them simply, are as follows:

1: Watch Tartarus.

2: Don’t let anyone in.

3: Don’t let anyone out.

Boom.

I work the shift from 8pm to 4am, Monday to Friday.

Gets pretty damned boring. Mall closes at 9. Last staff are out by 9:20. And then it’s just me. Just myself, a gruff and relatively miserable late-middle aged man all alone in this mall.

There’s five other men like me. Or hell, some could be women, I guess.

Two of them do the weekend, I hear. The other two do weekdays. One works 4am to 12 noon, and the other from noon to 8pm.

We’re not supposed to meet each other.

That being said. I’m pretty sure I bumped into the guy who works the noon to 8pm shift once. He just had this look about him. Twenty or so years younger than myself, I should think, hard to tell since he was wearing a mask, but he’d seen some shit. You can see it in their eyes. He nodded at me as I passed him by. Seemed to realize he was running late. Could have just been a stranger I guess, ex-military or something, but I don’t know. Just had a feelin’.

I’m working right now, in fact. It’s a typically dead and quiet night.

The moon is out, and its light shines through the purple-tinted glass of the roof, washing the vast, open plan of the mall in a pleasant, dreamlike violet.

I glance over to Tartarus.

The metal sheet-door sits resolutely in place. The windows are dark and dead.

…You can hear stuff coming through, sometimes. Whispers and mutterings.

…On some nights the metal rattles. Those nights ain’t fun.

I take a sip of my coffee and lean back in my chair. I say ‘my’ chair. It’s one of the mall’s massage chairs. It isn’t turned on, but it’s still comfy.

As I try to relax, the music in one of my headphones starts cutting in and out. I grumble in frustration and pluck the bud from my ear to fiddle with it. Damned things. I need new ones really, but I wouldn’t hav
