A list of puns related to "Young Folks (magazine)"
A few months ago i did a quote for a Ninja Z H2 and it was literally $80/month. Compared it to a regular Ninja H2, at $450/month. One company didnβt even list a price, just said βcall for more optionsβ lmao
I've been grinding in the workforce for a few years now out of college, and it seems like every year I get further and further "behind" in the game.
Inflation is really hurting right now as prices has gone supernova. The only people that are protected are "owners". Home prices are insane, rent is clicking up, and food prices are INSANE (my grocery bill has gone up massively in the past few months, every restaurant is raising prices...$12 dollar burritos, $9 dollar banh mi). I feel poorer now than when I started working 8-9 years ago.
Are we in the late stages of the monopoly game where the old folks started playing years ago and pretty much owns every space on the board? Feels like the young people are walking around aimlessly around the board hoping to land on the "chance" square and make it big with tech options, inheritances, or crypto gains.
I don't even think we need to frame this in a "millennial" versus "boomer" context. We can frame it in a "have" versus "have not" context. The "haves" got to start playing earlier (i.e.. boomer, millennial with generational wealth, etc.) while the "have notes" start off later.
Kid of the 80s here (born in 1976). I grew up loving Karate Kid, recreating scènes with my friends, and ending up joining a karate dojo with my little sister. In general, I love everything 80s. The music, the video games, movies, the cars, toys and babes(!). It just reminds me of happy times, when I had zero stress and tons of time to waste on whatever was fun. Watching Cobra Kai brings back so many good memories.
But what about you young folks? Do you actually like all these 80s references? Do you get them, or do some fly over your head or puzzle you? You actually like the 80s over today's culture? Or do you just watch the series as a thing on its own?
Trying to understand why people love the series without the nostalgia factor. Thanks!

When I was 18 in November of 2000, my best friend and I both got jobs at FedEx as package handlers. It was meant to be temporary, but the more we thought about it, we both thought it would be a nice career to be drivers. We could get paid to do something that would keep us healthy and not have to work in an office. So we planned on sticking it out until we turned 21 and could get on as a driver.
About 3 months in, my buddy decided to go and check out UPS. I told him no way Iβm going to work for a union company and have do pay union dues. I went on about how itβs all about seniority and working harder than everyone else doesnβt get you anywhere. He eventually switched to UPS and I was sad, but we stayed friends.
To this day, we are still friends. He is making $90k a year working a very nice route, owns a nice home, has a 401k and pension plan, great benefits, etc. I donβt. Thatβs the end of the story. Unions are good, donβt fool yourself into thinking hard work makes a difference to where youβll end up with non-union companies.
a pretty good friend of mine finally fell in love with a girl after dating around a lot on tinder and other dating apps. He felt like he finally found the one that he wanted to be with exclusively.
He's 28 or 29 I think. She's about 26 or 27. They were both madly in love it appeared. He and I would sit in my driveway smoking weed and I would have to listen to him gush about how amazing and perfect she was, and he would occasionally read me her texts proving that she was just as head over heels for him.
Despite not having a relationship of my own for over a decade, I was genuinely happy for them.
Then over the next few weeks or months or so, he would gradually, more and more frequently confide in me about her exhibiting some pretty extreme CA behavior. For the record, she wasn't hiding it or anything and was very open and honest with him about her need for constant booze consumption in order to function.
He would confide in me because he knew that I myself am a CA, and he was just genuinely concerned for her and wanted advice from me about various aspects of being a CA, including questions about consumption levels, daily maintenance, treatment, general comparisons of my experience to hers, and sometimes just telling me about her situation simply so that he could blow off steam.
I was happy to help, I didn't know her personally, so I was happy to be a helpful resource for my friend and honestly it was a little bit of a nice reminder to me that I'm not the only CA person out there.
In fact, I was almost jealous that he had found her, she did indeed sound amazing. She liked a lot of the same music as I do (which my friend doesn't) and she's was a kind, attractive, fun loving, elementary school teacher. What's not to like? He seemed to have scored a perfect babe.
Unfortunately she also cannot function at all without massive amounts of vodka. I guess she buys a handle, like one of those 1.5 Liter bottles and goes through it pretty quickly, maybe daily although I'm not sure precisely. She drinks the second she wakes up in the morning and drinks throughout the day and into the evening.
So Starting, I think sometime over fall of 2020 I think, she started having some serious health problems. First she had to quit her teaching job because her health was deteriorating so badly that she had to spend long periods in the hospital.
Then she was diagnosed with alcoholic hepatitis, and jaundice, and ascities. She was in and out of the

I have noticed that many 40K players tend to be at least out of college(probably because model cost) but what could GW do to make 40k more accessible Edit Iβm not saying it has no young base but just thinking on how it could grow more
Bloody hell it is seriously depressing reading U.K news as a young person moving back from a BOT. Any upsides or should I just immigrate?
The CDC has a great graphic I found that shows the risk of myocarditis in young folks following their first or second dose compared to background population rates.
As someone who is weighing the risks vs. benefits of receiving a booster dose, and as someone who falls into this category, I am wondering if there are any similar documents that show risk of the reaction after the third dose.
If not, is it reliable to assume a similar increase in incidence following the third dose vs. the second dose as the second vs. the first?
Preferably a modern version of this type of music. I'm already listening to The Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
Hi all,
Hope it's ok to post this - I used to study at UBC (almost 10 years ago!) but am looking to connect with younger folks/students interested and passionate about helping our city become more progressive/liveable for all. Specifically, I'm looking for people interested in supporting good urbanism - ie more affordability, more housing options, more housing stock, better non-single occupancy vehicle options, and better planning that reflects the need for most instead of the few.
As someone who works for a non-profit developer and operator of below-market, affordable rentals for median incomes, I've been to too many public hearings and city engagement processes that are predominantly attended by older, wealthier folks who think everything is fine. They've resorted to comments like "homeowners provide oxygen and we should be so grateful" to other things like "there's plenty of space for renters if we start opening up attics". Housing is not the only issue - they also comment on and oppose bike lanes, climate goals, and many other aspects. As most of them are wealthy and retired (and not hustling a 2nd or 3rd job) - you can see why they've taken over these conversations (they have LOTS of time). And unfortunately they've also had the ear of many politicians and as such we've seen very disappointing lack of action from those in power.
I don't think this is right, and I know that younger people have not only more at risk, but also have so much to contribute.
I'm posting here as I hope some of you might be interested and willing to help turn the tides on a very stale & one-sided process to date . At the most recent public hearing for the city-wide policy "Streamlining Rental Plan" - I heard some fantastic uni student speakers and I know there's more of you out there.
I've started a small Discord server in an attempt to tackle this. I hope and envision a grassroots effort to ensure our city is planning for an acting to serve the benefit of many and not a few wealthy homeowners. So far we've used it for posting & discussion proposed developments, city plans, encourage people to become aware & educated about city of Vancouver engagement opportunities. But we need help. ideas, and more engagement.
If you're interested, or have ideas, we want to hear from you - please drop a comment or shoot me a DM and let's get connected and chat! Thanks for reading, have a fab weekend :)
Please understand sports betting is entertainment. If you bet parlays you canβt win long termβ¦
Sure, sometimes you will get lucky, like someone who wins $100k on a lottery ticket, but future results are unlikely to continue being profitableβ¦
Have someone in this forum trying to tell me they are a profitable sports bettor right now, making 13 leg parlaysβ¦sigh. At standard 4.5% edge, a 13 team parlay has a 45% house edgeβ¦you canβt beat that long term, even if you were the best sports bettor / modeler in the worldβ¦
I wish the sports betting community was filled with more intelligent folks. Often, itβs the middle/lower class being taken advantage of, losing so much money that they could otherwise invest. βSmartβ does not simply mean youβve studied ESPN stats and think your bet has an edge.
You are valid. It doesn't matter what was in the past. It doesn't matter what will be in the future.
What matters is the present. The You from right now. If the You from now feels asexual, in any way or any definition for any reason. It is valid.
And it is okay if you had and enjoyed sex before or still do. It is okay if you later might not identify as asexual anymore. Sexuality CAN be fluid, doesn't have to though.
There is no right or wrong way to Sexuality. We are all individuals that experience life absolutely unique to anybody else. There are literally 10000000000 things that can have an effect on us and our life and therefore Sexuality.
Trauma, disease, hormones, stress, internalized phobias, family history, unsupportive environment, lack of education, bad experiences, good experiences, that certain someone who sort of flipped a switch in you and on and on and on the list goes. And all of those are valid experiences that form YOU and YOUR life experience.
The overlabeling and over policing in the lgbtqai+ community is increasing more and more over the years, and so far most of that has just resulted in toxicity. Labels can be good and helpful to find oneself and where one belongs and finds a support circle. But if that support circle suddenly isn't support anymore bc of over labeling and policing inside of that group absolute bullshit it is going too far.
In the end what actually matters is you. Your needs, your wants, your boundaries, your no-go's. Your health, mental and physical. And if that means that you feel on the asexual spectrum now, you are save here, you are valid and you are welcome. AND you are free to move on that spectrum and also to move out of it.
It is okay. You are not broken. You are not abnormal. You are not invalid, neither to allosexuals, nor to asexuals. You are you. And you are perfect. You know what is best for you. You know what you want and or need and what you don't. You will take care of yourself in a way that you need to. And you will move on from things and change if you need or want to.
This is something I really would have needed to read or hear 10 years earlier than now saying it to myself. So I really hope it helps a person out there I love you, stay save.
I really enjoy the live performance recordings on TRT Musik in the evenings. I tuned into it on my travels in Antalya and Istanbul.
I've been tuning in from England when I can.
I don't know if this is something only a certain generation indulge in or if this is popular with the younger generation -- I hope this traditional style doesn't die. I only understand English / Urdu, but I still enjoy the music from Turkey.
The instruments are so unlike traditional western instruments. The vocal range of the singers is also so much more dynamic than what we're used to in the West.
Is it popular with young people?
Assuming you aren't planning on higher education although you can still do this to an extent if you get a part time job but this is what I am currently doing.
When you're 16 or 18 or whenever you can work get a full time job but don't leave home, don't move out into a place for rent.
Stay at home (assuming you can, most can) and just save up your money. Do this for a few years, not too long for it to be weird. Your parents will likely charge you but they never charge much.
Not as much as some filthy landlord would and just don't spend much. Only get the things you need. Don't get expensive phone contracts or brand new cars.
Assume you get any basic job and assume you're good with saving money in a couple years you'll be able to just out right buy your own property or at the very least have the deposit to get your own property with a nice chunk in savings.
Moving out and going onto rent is a trap. You lose most if not all your money to some landlord and fending for yourself.
Sure some folks like the idea of the freedom of moving out from their parents but on rent you're simply just moving into somebody else's home in which they charge a whole lot more than your parents and don't even feed you. You gotta do that part yourself. It's not real freedom. It's optional slavery.
Rent is a trap because you can never make any savings or if you can you have to try really hard and ultimately don't save up much only for it to be taken away when your car goes bust or something. Not to mention your money is never going towards something.
Pay 1 year or pay 40 years the house won't belong to you either way on rent.
Living in todays rental market and saving up it could very well take you close to a decade just to save up enough for a deposit, I know many folks who struggle massively saving up for the deposit.
Whereas if you stay at home at max 5 years you can just buy your own property (within reason)
(Of course this depends on where you live and what salary you make, if you live in somewhere like California or London it'll probably take a while.)
Education is important of course and if you are planning on doing higher education then best of luck to you but to those that aren't then this is a sure nice way of building up a hell of a savings.
Shit you could go a step further and buy a crypto mining machine with this kind of money and just live of that assuming you know what to do. I don't so this isn't advice on that.
I see too many of my friends jump from ho

No offense to Ginger or anything, but I just love the way the those two move together.
Anyway, provided she isn't too young, she grows shoe sizes quicker than Grinch's grow heart sizes (They're genetically predisposed to cardiomegaly, its heartbreaking). I've seen toddler tap shoes for less than $20, that'd be doable every month or two, don't want to buy em, though, if they're like the equivalent of buying an acoustic guitar at Big Lots or something.
Thanks for any help in advance. And just while I'm here, I've often pondered where exactly tap falls: music or dance. Obviously both, but in what measure? Well, I'd say it varies a by who's doing the tapping, but only superficially, really. Tap would seem to be very nearly equal parts music and dance, and to me they're inextricably linked. A man sitting down tapping his feet-- it's not nothing, but it's not strictly tap, is it? And, while I'm sure they must have made them, can you think of a tap routine in a silent film?
Curious to know anyone's thought's on it, as well as on tap shoes for toddlers
There was a couple of posts earlier about about branding the Irish Times transphobic for publishing a letter to the editor and a opinion piece about psychologists opinions on treating people with gender dysphoria.
It's disheartening to see the young Irish youth falling into these instant branding practices,t hat are common place on American subs and websites.
What's next? Irish youth buying into cultural appropriation nonsense?
More and more I'm seeing Irish people jump straight to this evil branding. They don't seem to realise how serious allegations such as racist, transphobic, biphobic actually are, and how harmful they can be to both individual people and to society as a whole.
When branding like this is done to people for having different opinions, or for asking questions it shuts down conversation. The branded people feel attack (rightfully) and they retreat from the conversation. The branders think "they won" and feel good about themselves for "exposing" someone. When the reality is the person simply no longer wishes to engage with a bigot who brands people like that.
Yes, if you brand people like this without form evidence and understanding then you are a bigot.
It's exactly these attitudes and actions that caused the rise of Trump and played a large role in Brexit. When you shut people out of society and tell them they aren't allowed to have a voice, then they will seek out those who will allow them to have a voice, even it they don't like that person.
We saw this happen in Ireland in recent years with all the people who voted for Peter Casey.
It needs to stop. To any young Irish folk reading this, please try to understand what people's opinions are before making accusations. They to understand where their views came from, is it ignorance or is it real hatred.
You also need to stop broadening the definitions of words. E.g. the accusations of the Irish Times being Transphobic. Publishing things that could be perceived as transphobic is not actual transphobia (having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against transsexual or transgender people.)
