A list of puns related to "Yesteryear (quartet)"
Nuff said. LFG!
Edit: Their effort to stick it to Apes has been fine tuned dramatically since June 2021. Citadel army have increased their offensive coordination.
Right now the guy all the stat heads (and that includes me) want in that the stodgy BBWA traditionalist were less keen on is Scott Rolen. Before that it was Edgar Martinez and Larry Walker. But before that I wasn't really a sabermetric person so I don't know who the pre Walker cases were. So if we draw a lineage it would go
2021- Rolen
2020 Martinez
2019 Walker
But then who?
I was watching a YouTube video and a comment remarked that having seen TAA tear it up from the right back position, they think if David Beckham was coming up today, would've been an all-time great player as a wingback. I never got to see Beckham in his prime outside of clips and was wondering what others thought.
The consensus seems that nowadays the full-back position is far more vital and involved in the success of certain systems. You think Beckham was born too early? Could Becks at RB have worked during his playing years? Or was the game so different in the 90s and 00s that full-back/wing-back tactics of present day just would not have worked?
Who else do you thinks could have played that sort of modern wing-back role? One of the first persons who came to my mind was Steven Gerrard. Someone who had some success playing out wide, had serviceable defensive capabilities and would ping long passes he loved so much from a deep position. My imagination of Stevie G in that sort of free roaming RB role that TAA plays at Liverpool would've been an absolute terror.
Any thoughts?
Scores of honest, hardworking, and innocent families and individuals were suffering under such a regime and system and network of governance. Very much the same can be said of Wall Street.
To this end, I say, Mr. Biden, tear down this wall.
You can replace a few key words in the speech here and it fits remarkably well.
>"Behind me stands a wall that encircles the free sectors of this city, part of a vast system of barriers that divides the entire continent of Europe. . . . Standing before the Brandenburg Gate, every man is a German, separated from his fellow men. Every man is a Berliner, forced to look upon a scar. . . . As long as this gate is closed, as long as this scar of a wall is permitted to stand, it is not the German question alone that remains open, but the question of freedom for all mankind. . . . General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
Good day everyone, I wanted to share a website I started last summer where I discuss and not-that-seriously write about proverbially "bad" movies along with other features and content that I'm adding over time.
It's called UpAllNightMovies and is loosely based on the 90s USA Network show of the same name, "USA Up All Night".
Not only am I writing about the movies, but it's also always visitor-voted. Roughly every month I'm posting a poll of 4 randomly selected movies that I've noticed on streaming services, and let users have a couple weeks of time to vote on which they want to see covered.
Current poll can be found here
I also post accompanying trailers to help visitors choose, as well as I've done a brief amount of "sponsor interviews" with more to come in the future.
Would love to have some more traffic and eyes on the site, as well as any constructive criticism anyone can offer, let me know if I'm doing decent, sucking worse than the movies covered, or just need to keep my day job.
Some sample posts from past voted movies can be found here: Chopping Mall Zombeavers
Let me know what you think, and please vote in the poll, it's the last weekend available for it.
So Iโm stuck at home, not very well but to cheer myself up Iโm watching a full rerun of England winning 25-14 in Australia back in 2003. Maybe doesnโt qualify as a classic but a nice memory from my youth.
What are your classics from back in the day? Preferably where a full rewatch is available
So in a gala or ice show during the time when the USSR existed, a Russian skater did a gala or ice show program where they impersonated a drunk cowboy. He had the cowboy hat, boots and jacket. He was a singles skater at the Europeans/Worlds/Olympics level. Any ideas who this could be?
Recently hearing of a ban on some aerosol can byproduct and people โcheerโ this on, never really got to the question of other instances this kind of cruel acceptance that we canโt just make the world better instantly, by just DOING different, we gotta fucking vote on it, to get people to stop?????
Ok, the food is of equal caliber. But they have literally doubled their prices (think eggrolls) over the past decade. So.. I now reserve it for a special occasion. My question: Where to go for fantastic cheap eats, particularly Vietnamese but honestly looking for any hidden gems maybe not on my radar. Am I right assuming that Quang's took disproportionately to inflation, or is this the new normal? Please advise. Thanks.
It was a violin insurrection.
Starlink existed back in 1996 (albeit, a little different), looks like they offered two plans, one at a blazing 1.5 Mbps and 36.6Kbps. 36.6Kbps on a 1.5Mbps backbone. (Thank you to those that pointed out that was for the entire ISP, hilarious by today's standards, how far we've come)

Later, the address was turned into literally a list of stars.
http://web.archive.org/web/20080831223212/http://www.starlink.com/
And then finally, the Starlink we know today. This was the first archive I could find, I'm assuming this was V1 of today's Starlink but if you find an earlier, different version, let me know.

I just found this amusing, and hope someone else does too.
Don Wilson, the co-founder and rhythm guitarist of the pioneering instrumental rock quartet the Ventures, died of natural causes at his home in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday (January 22). Wilsonโs son Tim confirmed his death to local outlet King 5 News and Tacoma paper The News Tribune. โOur dad was an amazing rhythm guitar player who touched people all over world with his band, the Ventures,โ Tim Wilson told The News Tribune. โHe will have his place in history forever and was much loved and appreciated. He will be missed.โ Wilson was the last surviving member of the core Ventures lineup. He was 88 years old.
Wilsonโs chugging electric guitar was the sturdy backbone of the Venturesโ highly influential instrumental music. He formed the group alongside guitarist/bassist Bob Bogle in 1958, when they were working as construction workers in Seattle (roughly 30 minutes north of their native Tacoma). Wilson and Bogle wrote songs on instruments theyโd purchased from a local pawnshop, and eventually enlisted drummer Howie Johnson as well as Nokie Edwards, who played lead guitar on the bandโs iconic 1960 rendition of Johnny Smithโs โWalk, Donโt Run.โ Johnson was later replaced with Mel Taylor; despite lineup changes over the years, Wilson, Bogle, Edwards, and Taylor are considered the core members of the bandโs seminal period in the 1960s.
โWalk, Donโt Runโ was a colossal hit for the Ventures, both in 1960, and when the group rerecorded it in 1964. The updated version, with its rolling drums and bright guitar, rode the surf rock wave of the era. โWalk, Donโt Runโ is as synonymous with โ60s surf rock as โWipeoutโ and the music of Dick Dale and Link Wray.
A highly prolific group, the Ventures cut dozens of albums, and sold an estimated 100 million. Many of their recordings were covers, however Wilson and Bogle did pen originals such as โNo Trespassing,โ โThe McCoy,โ โLove Goddess of Venus,โ โStop Action,โ and many others. Their music influenced countless artists, particularly guitarists like George Harrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, the Beach Boysโ Carl Wilson (no relation to Don), and others.
The Ventures were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 by Creedence Clearwater Revivalโs John Fogerty. Wilson accepted the honor on behalf of the group. โWho would have thought that after recording โWalk, Donโt Runโ 48 years ago, we would be going through this honor tonight?โ Wilson said at the ceremony. โNot bad for two former brickla

Not only was Devika Rani the first leading lady superstar of India but instrumental in launching the careers of Dilip Kumar,ย Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Madhubala and Mehmood to name a few through her studioย โBombay Talkiesโ. Such was her charisma, fame and power that her name used to feature prominently above all others and even above the movieโs title on its posters. Her acting style, beauty and power was enough to dub her the Indian Greta Garbo.
Born in a distinguished family of Army chiefs, Chief Justices, Surgeon generals and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, she met her future husband and producer-actor Himanshu Rai in London and joined his team as art director and costume designer. They both travelled to Germany to learn filmmaking techniques from the likes of theย legendaryย Fritz Lang. Himanshu married Devika and started work on their first movie together as a couple namedย โKarmaโ. Karma was the first Indian movie made in English and Hindi at the same time. Its English version was highly acclaimed and a big success in England on release in 1933. It was so ahead of its time that it featured a never equalled iconic 4 min kiss on screen between Devika and Himanshu. Devika sang Indiaโs firstย English song in a movie inย โKarmaโ. However theย Hindi version of the movieย didnโt receive the same amount of acclaim and popularity. After the success of its English version, BBC invited Devika Rani to play a role in their first ever television broadcast in 1933 and she alsoย inaugurated their first short wave radio transmission to India.
Himanshu and Devika returned to India in 1934 to set up Indiaโs most progressive and well equipped studios named Bombay Talkies and launched their first movie, a thriller which was shot entirely on a train called โJawani Ki Hawaโ starring Devika Rani and Najm-Ul-Hassan. During the shooting of the movie Devika and Hassan became romantically involved and eloped when their next movie โJeevan Naiyaโ was being shot. The movieโs production got halted after their elopement and a friend and assistant to Himanshu Rai named Sashadhar Mukherjee (Eventual head of the Mukherjee clan) managed to trace and convince Devika Rani to see reason and return to her husband in the interest of her social standing

TL;DR 30 something y/o man daydreaming about a happier, simpler time without so much division, fear & intrusive technology.
I was sitting in my work vehicle this afternoon and I saw some kids walking by in a group: faces down, thumbs busy on their screens, chatting but not conversing (I know what you're thinking and no, this isn't the stereotypical "back in my day" old man rant).
It made me notice that I had this laptop in the car, my phone, a bodycam, my E-Reader (that I keep naively thinking I'll ever get to use on shift lol) and at the time I was engrossed in work stuff but it was just gnawing at me all day that those kids were in a group & were barely present with each other.
I remember as a small lad going to the shop with some mates or heading to a cinema and it was the be-all to end-all; we would be hooting and hollering, full of piss and vinegar! That was in the early 2000s for me, when my mates and I would be sat about at some local park blasting "Polyamorous" by Breaking Benjamin on some Tesco brand stereo and talking some absolute shit to each other about this and that.
I moved to America when I turned 21 because the family had fallen to the wayside here when mum and da split and I needed a fresh start (which I invariably received by the way). It was so good here then when you could talk to virtually anybody of any stripe in society and have a halfway decent conversation with them without some political diatribe coming up and diluting it into an argument about which president sucks less.
My job is universally controversialist - as well it ought to be - and it's both engaging and exhausting. My best friend & work partner here in the US is somebody I never dreamt I'd have been best friend with back in Ireland as a lad; not because of any kind of backwoods ideological BS, but because I never knew a blackfella whilst I grew up! Seems like yesterday it was a regular sort of friendship to have because nobody cared about the fact that we're both clearly two different races. Now, in light of the (necessary) social changes that have sprung up across America in recent years, we've both been called every name under the sun for our friendship. How upsetting is that? Very, I'll tell you.
I remember when I would get into my 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco that I bought from my uncle Percy in 2004 and all I'd have to do is set the mirrors, pray the clutch held together for another week of procrastination and away I went. Now I get into my 2019 Bui

So it would come as a surprise to many movie aficionados of the current generation to find out that there is an Indian actor who has masterpieces like "Lawrence of Arabiaโ, โDeath on the Nileโ and โHarry Blackโ for which he received a BAFTA nomination on his filmography making him one of the first Indian actors to receive an international award nomination. He acted, produced and directed several hindi movies and also appeared in a couple of Italian movies. It will come as an even bigger surprise to learn that this actor was none other than the elder brother of renowned Bollywood producer Yash Johar and uncle to Karan Johar. Inderjeet Singh Johar AKA I.S.Johar was a unique actor - writer - producer - director from the 50s, 60s and 70s who had his own style of satirical comedy movie making.
He is most known for his Filmfare Award winning triple role in Dev Anandโs "Johny Mera Naam" and for his partnership with Mehmood which resulted in the iconic movies โJohar Mehmood in Goaโ and โJohar Mehmood in Hong Kongโ. He also wrote, acted in and directed โJohar in Kashmirโ and โJohar in Bombayโ as an expansion of the series. He mixed humor, satire and political topics in his movies in order to create funny but thought provoking movies. I.S. Johar was ahead of his times as a pioneer of satirical humor and spoofs in India. His movie โ5 riflesโ is one of Indiaโs first spoof movies starring Rakesh Khanna (A Rajesh Khanna look alike) and Shahi Kapoor (A Shashi Kapoor look alike), decades before mimics and look alikes of Bollywood stars became a thing. A salute to I.S. Johar for his contribution to Indian Cinema.
