Hypothetically, what is the difference between eating a vegetable and a sea anemone?
Additionally, is it even possible to avoid consuming all animal lifeforms, since many fruits and vegetables are covered in small insects and products like instant coffee or chocolate contain many ground up cockroaches in the production process (google it)?
So i have been designing a Future Is WΔ±ld inspired speculative Evolution Project for a while. It takes place 360 million years in the future. NeoPangea has split into three continents and world is in an ice age. Possibly its last. Dominant land lifeforms are Flish and Squibbon descendants. Unlike our world, Flish mainly took the niches of small creatures diversifying from a small Dragonfly like form that came to be 250 million years in the future and eventually radiated to fill the niches of bees, ants, beetles, flies and many other insects. Molluscs descended from Squibbons generally took the niches of large land animals(MegaSquids went extinct due to climate change.)
With that out of the way, My main problem: I am struggling with ways for molluscs to counter cold. I am thinking of making them mesothermic or maybe make them produce antifreeze like aquatic ones are doing in our world but beyond that i am not sure what to do. I thought of giving them fur analogues evolved from cromathophores but i am not sure how a pigment cell can become something that produces strands of hair. I need ideas please help.
The hair whorl, that spiral formation of hair around the crown. I don't think everyone has one, but I'm certain I do. I don't know where my whorl is exactly since I've kept my hair long for a long time, but I have a circular patch of hair around the crown that is short. It may not necessarily be thin there, but it is far shorter than everywhere else at no more than 3/4 an inch long.
Is that normal? Maybe it's just because that's where my hair whorl is? Is there any way I can help that patch of hair grow longer? Am I going bald already? I'm only 26. I'm afraid to do anything with my hair because it's so short. I don't want to cut it and find out I'm gonna look bald there, so I've just sorta combed it back for a while. Looks unflattering on me.
i've tried reverse google image searching and looking up molluscs and bivalves marked as common on california lists, and no dice. any insight on this guy? seen mid-june near/below tide-line.

I'm halfway through the Long Sun and it doesn't feel as puzzle-y or intricate as New Sun. This series is clearly just a gentle story about a normal priest dealing with financial trouble. It is not at all challenging to me as a reader.
One question though, is the Whorl a spaceship?
Possible variant: Replace "mollusc" with some other non-chordate body plan or lifestyle.
