A list of puns related to "Whoopie sling"
I bought this setup for the AT in 2017, and have slept in it at least 70 nights. (I didn't finish that AT)
I believe the Hammock fabric is Hexon 1.6 (the one that can hold heavy people) in green.
Includes: Hammock, Ridgeline, Loops, Whoopie Sling Suspension, 5ft Tree Huggers, Dutch Clips, Titanium Toggles
Basically everything you need other than the tarp and insulation
Here are some pictures, don't have any good ones of just the hammock: https://imgur.com/a/Eae7rFd

I have an ENO double nest with Atlas straps. I like to backpack so Iβm trying to lighten my pack as much as possible. I bought a set of light-weight tree straps that are attached to a whoopie sling. The ENO hammock has a carabiner on each end. I know I could just hook the carabiner into the loop of the whoopie sling but ideally I like to drop the heavy carabiners too! How do I use the whoopie sling with my ENO? Eventually I intend to get a lighter hammock from AutumnUltralight or TrailHeadz but Iβm going camping this weekend. Iβd love some guidance. BTW. Iβm not afraid of knots.
So Iβve hammocked for a few years but am wanting to improve my system. I like the idea of using Whoopie slings, but am a bit confused: do you still use a tree strap? Does that just add an extra piece? Do you have to connect to the strap using a toggle? Can you just put the Whoopie around the tree?
If anyone has a good write up or source for a video, thatβd be helpful.
Thanks.
I have a Hennessy UL Backpacker that I've used for thousands of miles and I am about to pick up a Dream Sparrow to have some flexibility with my bug net. I've been using straps marlin spiked to dynaglide whoopie slings for years, which replaced Dutch biners and Amsteel whoopies before that. I think the setup is great but I'm just wondering what other options are out there that I may have missed as I'm thinking about a new setup.
What other lightweight options are worth taking a look at?
Iβm trying to come up with some fundraising ideas for my two month hang. Went over budget a bit due to hyper inflated import/duty fees.
Iβve come to enjoy splicing, and I have plenty of spare time at the moment, so I thought this was worth a shot... Iβve seen plenty of small online stores selling them, but obviously donβt have sale data. I was wondering if there was an actual market for these things or if everyone makes their own. If a lot of people buy them pre made, I thought I could assemble some to fundraise.
Thoughts? Any other suggestions? Only need to raise $300 for now, but maybe it will turn into a full time gig π€·ββοΈ
What's the best thing to do? I have tried prising the little bits further towards the end but am not having any luck, particularly as its very easy to compress it with finger pressure and tighten the berry. I could maybe try and insert some wire up from the other end of the berry?
Thanks
So with traditional tree straps Iβve always used a type of knot instead of the built in loops if the trees are too thick to wrap around twice
I recently got the Long hummingbird whoopie slings which look great... problem is they werenβt long enough to wrap twice around the tree but a wrapping once left too much of a sag, even with the sling adjusted all the way. Tying a knot in the strap doesnβt work because the hammock needs to hang from the cord not the strap.
Iβm probably being simple here, but is there a way around this, using a special knot or technique?
Thankyou!
Do you have any tips for taking care of and using whoopie slings so that they last as long as possible? Iβve made my second set now because the burys of my past set got so frayed and twisted.
There is a hammock camp site that has some stands with eye hooks but I need some whoopie slings to adjust my hammock properly and hang on them.
Has anybody experienced slipping with whoopie slings? I have had them slip on me a few times. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong but the info on the webs seems to make them out to be super solid and that's not my experience.
Recently I've seen UCRs with a prusik knot attached which seems promising but I question a prusik knot on dyneema. I'm not willing to sacrifice my remaining dyneema (1/8" diameter) to test it out.
I want the flexibility of a whoppie or UCR with the lighter weight compared to webbing (other than what I need to protect the trees of course) but I'm not willing to end up on the ground...again.
So what's everyones experience? And let me know what you use and the weights if you want/can. Thanks =]
I have been hammock camping for about 4 years. I always thought a Whoopie Sling was just a loop of cord. I just found out my hummingbird hammock straps (had for 2 years) have a whoopie sling on the ends and just learned how to use them appropriately. I'm both embarrassed and super stoked. That is all.
So I made my 12β hammock and am running into trouble. Iβve been using the hang calculator and normally run into a problem where my suspension length needs to be shorter than the 72β. Iβm using 6 whoopie slings on a marlin spike hitch. Most of the calculator calculations want me to use suspension shorter than 72β. Most of the time with tress 20β-30β apart itβs asking for suspension length of 30β-66β. Any ideas would be appreciated in this project. Thanks for looking.
Over the weekend I got the chance to try out my new Hummingbird set-up. The only issue was, the only available trees were a little bit too close. Coming from an ENO background, I would always be able to just loop the strap around the tree a second time and pull the tail through one of the built-in loops. This can't be done with whoopie slings. Anyone have some tips about setting up in this kinda situation?
Hey all,
I'm looking to ditch my heavy Atlas straps to save some weight in my backpack, I was told by a few other backpackers to look into whoopie slings for my hammock.
Is there a good all in one kit that has everything needed to swap over? I've seen some that use toggles and others that don't, I'm not sure if this is due to an advantage or preference. Looking for more experienced user input!
In case it matters, it's an ENO doublenest hammock, with pro fly and guardian bug net, and I'm 5' 10" at 210lbs.
Thanks in advance!
I have them and love them!
I've hung a little, but not very much, so I'm at the point where I'm beginning to experiment. I've noticed that my hammock tends to hang a bit low, probably cuz I keep the whoopie slings a little loose. I'm a bit nervous about tightening them further, since I remember how incredibly difficult it was to loosen over-tightened whoopie slings. Would attaching my whoopie slings to the tree straps with a becket hitch let me instantly loosen them if over-tightened again? Do you prefer other strategies with whoopie slings?
In preparation for my April AT thru hike, I purchased the above as I planned on using a hammock. I have since changed my mind and no longer need these items, but it is past the return date from the manufacturers. The above items have never been used. I had been buying gear slowly over time when I had the money, but never got around to using these pieces of gear as I wanted everything to be new for my hike.
Once again, everything is BRAND NEW and NEVER used.
The ZPacks tarp has never even been out of the cuben stuff sack. The tarp was purchased for 299$. The 12 Titanium V Stakes were purchased for 39$.
Yeti 3/4 underquilt has never been attached to a hammock. It was purchased for 209$.
The 2 dutchwaregear wasps were purchased for a total of 18$. The Fronkey bugnet was 57$.
The Grand trunk nano 7 was purchased for 70$.
Whoopie sling set is:
1 | AWS-6-BL | Whoopie Slings | $18.00 | $18.00 Length: 6β² Color: Blue 1 | TH-6-B | Tree Huggers | $12.00 | $14.00 Length: 6β² +$2.00 Pattern: Black 1 | TOG-WO-B | Toggles β Pair | $4.00 | $4.00 Pattern: Black
NeoAir XLite was purchased for 160$.
Big Agnes pumphouse was purchased for 20$.
Total value of these brand new items is 908. I REALLY want to sell everything all together as one system. If you purchase multiple items I will reduce the prices; if not the individual sales will still be cheaper than if you purchased them directly from the manufacturer just not as cheap if you bought everything together.
Asking 785$ for everything. This is a 908$ value of all brand new gear (complete shelter system) for only 785$! Get it while you can and save a huge chunk of money. I also do not have pics of the big agnes pumphouse, bug net, or xlite because I forgot to take them, but they are all searchable online for images if you do not know what they are.
You are practically getting many of the items for free with the price discount I am giving due to my urgency, so take advantage!

what is a whoopie sling and how does it work? Everyone talks about them but still I don't understand. I've googled it a half dozen times but it never makes sense to me.
Currently I hang hammocks with ENO atlas straps and no ridgeline. How could I be doing it better?
Thank you so much, this is a big part missing from my understanding of the hammocky world!!
I love DIY but it just looks like these would be a pain in the butt to make.
