A list of puns related to "WTBA World Tenpin Bowling Championships"
I'm not sure if this was phased out as last time I went to a tenpin was about 3 years ago now but they still had the exact same animations that played on the score screens if you got a strike, spare, split or miss. It was always a race to bowl the ball and rush back before it even hit the pins to see what animation played as there was a large pool of unique ones for each scenario. Seems weird that the animations that played were very mid-90s/early-2000s in quality and must've been expensive to produce when they were made for how many they were.
I remember being as fascinated seeing them last time I was there as I was as a kid but now for the reasons that these were a relic of the past and could easily and cheaply be replaced by better animations nowadays, making it something to behold that tenpin was still getting mileage out of them. I guess the point of this post is I'm wondering if anyone ever went to a tenpin as a child and remembers these animated cutscenes as they made the experience of going bowling far more memorable for me and I hope I'm not alone on this.
**EDIT: Hope to see you this afternoon at 5pm! We will have an large A3 sized orange sign, that has /r/Auckland on it, as well as the Reddit logo. If you can't find the sign, feel uncomfortable approaching randoms or have any issues, please don't hesitate to send me a message :)**
Hi!
Back in February we did a meetup at Paradise Indian Buffet, but a lot of people couldn't make it, because it was in the middle of the week. This time, we're going to try something on a weekend.
We'll be meeting at Newmarket Tenpin Bowling at 5pm on Saturday. It's the cheapest one that's closest to the city, and it's also surrounded by bars and restaurants if people are keen to get dinner / a drink afterwards.
One game is $14 (or $13 if you have a student ID), additional games are $8. We'd probably play 2 games, but it really depends on how many people there are and what people want to do.
Some standard meetup FAQs:
I think I'm a social potato. Should I come to this meetup?
Yes! If you're not comfortable talking to people, you can sit there on your phone, watch the other people bowl when it's not your turn, or just listen into the general conversation, it's all good, not everyone's going to be a social butterfly
What is the age range of people at this meetup?
Generally 20's to 30's, but sometimes 18 year olds show up, sometimes people in their 40s. If you're all good with the majority being 20's/30's, then come along
I'm not good at Tenpin bowling, should I still come?
I don't think anyone is actually good at Tenpin bowling. You either fluke out and get a great score, or get 10 gutterballs. It's just luck of the draw.
The thought of walking up to randoms in a public space seems scarier than being victim in a shark attack - are there any solutions?
Absolutely. Chuck me a PM. Myself, or someone else will come and find you and you can walk in with us. It's a lot less scary if you don't have to ask people if they're the anonymous people from the internet. I'll also aim to make myself pretty identifiable on the day
Can I bring my boyfriend/girlfriend/non-binary friend/mum/dog/other animal?
Yes! Bring whoever you want, unless it's an animal. As much as I'd love to have a meetup comprised mostly of dogs, I feel like the Tenpin bowling alley would not appreciate this so much.
I'm not available on this date, will you be doing another meetup like this?
Possibly, but also maybe not. I said I wasn't going to do this again s
... keep reading on reddit β‘Iβm going to bowl in a youth tournament next week and I have never bowled on this pattern. I am a 2 hander with about 400 revs. I have the 900 global volt pearl, motive desert tank, roto Grip halo vision, roto Grip idol. Any tips would be amazing!
My first time playing on a string-reset system like the arcade bowling. Although I appreciate the quicker turnaround time between frames, it just felt inauthentic but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
I'm surprised the string doesn't get tangled like the arcade version.
Does the string get in the way and knock over the other pins?
Whatβs the weirdest thing to happen to you? Whatβs the most annoying things that happen to you? What do most people not realise about your job?
In most professional sports, the appeal is to see how various players and teams play against each other. In other 'solo' sports like golf, there are different courses and unpredictable conditions and such to keep it interesting. Bowling, however, has no competitive play and is designed to be exactly the same every round. It's fun at an amateur level because it is novel and is fun to play with friends, but what keeps it interesting at a professional level, either to watch or to play?
Are there any competitive alley's in auckland? From what iv'e seen they're all run down as fuck.
