Docker virtual pihole IP address

I am trying to get pihole running from my computer using Docker and https://hub.docker.com/r/pihole/pihole but I am having a problem. I can't figure out what the IPv6 address I need to change to is. The image at https://imgur.com/a/nj2kTUR shows the output from docker when I run pihole through it, and I think I see the the IPv4 is 0.0.0.0, but I am also not certain if I am reading that correctly either. If anyone knows more about this I would appreciate the help.

IP virtual-router address secondary MLAG Stack

I'm working to stack 2 7050s arista's and I've got all the L2 parts figured out but now I'm running into some L3 issues since both switches act independently of each over when it comes to L3 vs traditional stacking with other vendors.

Where I am just not finding any information and there doesn't even seem to be a command to allow for this is my secondary IP address on my vlan 1205 interface. I'm not against just removing the secondary IP if I have to but I want to understand a bit as to why I might have to before doing so.
Below is the configuration from one of the switches. The only difference on switch 2 is the real ip addresses assigned are x.x.x.253.
If there are any other recommendations let me know.

Additionally, vlan 2008 and 2009 are SAN vlans that I am keeping as is to avoid an outage when I add the second switch to the first. I have a plan to go around the arista with a direct link to the SAN from the hosts and eventually remove the connection in the arista completely but it can't be done for a while.

Can you prevent a Virtual IP Address from being added to DNS by SSSD?

Just for some background, I'm a junior SA and my Linux experience is pretty minimal, but I am learning.

In my environment we have HAProxy/Keepalived pairs that are joined to AD with SSSD. They are set to dynamically update DNS, but I noticed that they are also updating the DNS server with the virtual IP address they use.

I read the dyndns_iface setting in sssd.conf can specify which interfaces can be updated, but since this virtual IP is on the same interface as the primary, I suspect it will continue to update DNS with both IPs.

One article stated that the only thing you can do is to move the virtual IP address to a different interface. These are VMs with only one NIC (I am a jr. SA and not sure they will let me change the standard config).

Are there any other solutions that prevent the Virtual IP address from also being added for each hosts' A record in DNS? The end goal is to prevent a user from trying to SSH into the hostname, and getting sent to the wrong VM.

Thanks in advance!

Can't ping vrrp virtual ip address across trunk links, ideas?

I'm setting up a new pair of EVPL circuits between two different pairs of core switches. I have a VLAN configured with the local IP and a vrrp vrid with a virtual IP address on each switch. Then a dt-trunk interface built tagged with the appropriate VLAN.

Each switch has a single fiber interface connected to one side of the EVPL circuit configured like so:

Site A Sw1 10.1.1.2 <-EVPL-> Site B Sw1 10.1.1.5

Site A Sw2 10.1.1.3 <-EVPL-> Site B Sw2 10.1.1.6

I can ping from each switch to any other switch but I cannot ping to the remote virtual IP address across the EVPL. I can ping the VIP IP from the non-master switch on the same side (E.g. Site A Sw2 can ping 10.1.1.1)

E.g. - I can ping from Site A Sw1 10.1.1.2 to 10.1.1.5 and to 10.1.1.6 but I cannot ping 10.1.1.4
I can ping from Site B Sw1 10.1.1.5 to 10.1.1.2 and to 10.1.1.3 but I cannot ping 10.1.1.1

Confusion over public IP addresses in Azure for virtual machines

Most of our traffic in our Azure deployment will just be basic outbound internet traffic. However, I do see a need to have a few mapped IPs, in particular I know we'll have an SFTP server. I'm a little confused how public IPs work in Azure with a firewall. We have 2 Palos set up in active/active. I'm trying to avoid a full load balancer sandwhich. I have an internal load balancer set up between our vms and the 2 palos. But was hoping to not have to have an external load balancer.

I'm a little confused on how to assign public ip addresses to virtual machines. There is an option to assign a public IP on each VM nic card settings. But i'm not sure if this is how you do when using a firewall appliance? If I did use an external load balancer I would just add a secondary public ip there and do the external nat there?

What is a Virtual IP Address?

Guys, first and foremost I apologize if this had been raised before. I'm trying to understand what a virtual IP address is. I've Googled it and watched a few Youtube videos but it comes across as everyone is explaining it differently.

From what I understand it's an IP address that is not associated with a physical NIC but is managed by the network? If so what functionality can this provide to the user, does it have a sort of multi purpose?

Some of the examples of it use I have come across are...

  1. It being used in a subset of routers that are apart of a VRRP, they share the virtual IP. If the master fails then a backup router takes over to provide connectivity via that address.
  2. A friend explained another use to be... If you had multiple external IP's you want to use. So if I own the IP's 31.28.70.70-75, they can be put in as VIP's, which can then NAT them to internal services

Apologies, if this is vague or confusing, if anyone can point me in the right direction. I've probably grasped the concept and I'm over inflating it.

qBittorrent was leaking my real IP address behind a VPN, here's how to *fix* it.

It wasn't until I found this site, https://ipleak.net, which has a magnet you add to your torrent client and It tells you what IP address your Bittorrent client is exposing, qBittorrent by default was using BOTH my real IP and the IP provided by OpenVPN.

To get it to only use your VPN Go to Tools > Options > Advanced

The Settings you're looking for are "Network Interface" and "Optional IP address to bind to"

In Network Interface pick the adapter the VPN provider created for you in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network Connections, In my case it's Local Area Connection.

As for the second option pick the IP from the list starting with 10.x, and that's about it.

Proper way of using DNSBL virtual ip web address

My configuration uses the default 172.16.16.1 virtual ip with the default http and httpd ports (8081, 8443).

When a site is blocked a blank page shows up with certificate error. Pinging the name of the site resolves into 172.16.16.1 which signals to me that this is a DNSBL hit.

Is this the way things are supposed to happen or do I have a misconfiguration? Is there a more informative way to let the user know that the site is blocked out?

ILPT Request - Need to get IP address

Updating here because for some reason they removed my post on LPT. original story below. Update here:

To leave off where I started, I did not end up filing a missing persons report. The missing friend viewed my snapchat story again last week and I messaged him one more time in hopes he’d reply letting him know we were worried and we’re going to file a missing persons report. He told me to not do that and contact him on Whatsapp. He gave me his whatsapp number and I added him and ended up getting in contact over phone call, so I know it was for sure him. Found out that he skipped the country to Mexico. He told me he was in some deep shit and running away from it, and that he couldn’t afford to pay his bond or lawyer fees, and his sentence is 23 years. But where it gets weird is when I called all counties located in my state, there’s no record of him ever going to court, even though he and his father told us he was going to court. I was thinking maybe it’s not public information, but wouldn’t it have to be? I live in the US by the way. I spoke with him over the weekend on the phone and since haven’t contacted him again. At least to my understanding, you would have to do something very bad to be sentenced to 20+ years (murder rape child porn) and if that’s the case, I want to turn him in. I know this is ILPT but if he potentially hurt someone I don’t want to be involved or get in trouble. He also would not tell me on the phone what happened- he refused to. I’m not sure what to do. I called multiple county sheriffs offices to try to report a wanted person and contact with them and when I gave his name they said nothing came up or β€œthat’s not public information”. I’m just so confused. Is there any way I can get ahold of his court records through my state if they’re not public? What crimes are 23 years sentence?? I’m terrified. I’ve been friends with this guy for a while and he knows my address, where I live etc and scared he may be dangerous. For now I’ve cut off all contact, but still scared. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” This is an update made from my original post in ILPT- I’ve included the full story.
