While we patiently wait these last few days for Vanguard to release I figured I would see what are some of peoples favorite WW2 movies/tv shows so I can do some epic binging to pass the time. See you all online in a few days!
My TV turns off and back on like it's rebooting ONLY when I play vanguard. I have triple checked to make sure it's only vanguard by trying all my other games, warzone, FIFA, Morden warfare.. Disney app Netflix app etc. To confirm, the X box one is not turning off, it is the TV only, it turns off and on every 30 to 40 seconds. Please help if you can. Thanks
Vanguard TV-3 was launched in 1957 and had failure at +2 seconds after launch.
It was nicknamed "Stayputnik" as a joke (I suppose). I understand it as this: the thing didn't fly, but stayed (like from the word standing, not moving), hence the name (actually it did fly, but lost thrust and crashed).
This is a simple explanation, but maybe there's some hidden meaning. Is my understanding correct?

For anyone who doesnโt know, VIGIL is a new series on BBC One which takes place on HMS Vigil, a vanguard class submarine where some boring crime stuff happens.
Anyone watched it? The plot is wellโฆ a crime tv plot but Iโm more interested in the technical side of things. My favourite moment so far is when they are apparently being trailed by an enemy submarineโฆ in British watersโฆ and have done nothing to try and counter-detect this supposed submarine, not even trying to clear their baffles crazy Ivan style. Theyโve just cavitated a LOT and looked mournfully at each other every time an alarm blares.
I'm rewatching the HBO series From The Earth, To The Moon (also read the book a few times) and in Episode 1 James Webb is listening to JKFs address to Congress stating he wants funds to go to the moon, and he makes a statement that "If we had gotten Shepard into Space before Gagarin it'd be over...we'd have beaten them and that would've been that.". How do you think the space race/WORLD would've changed if that had happened? Would the U.S.S.R. have stopped and given up? Or would they push ahead like we did? What if when Vanguard TV-3 launched...it was successful? How would each country have changed do you think? We beat them to "The Bomb", and if we then went on to put the first satellite and man in orbit just how different would things have been? Curious for others opinions, as I love questions with no "wrong answers"! Just an interesting thing I've pondered from time to time, especially being a For All Mankind fan. Thanks!
On December 29th, 2021 Vanguard Target Retirement Funds all dropped in share price by as much as 14% in a single day. I've heard from a ton of investors who are really confused about it, so this is what happened, how it impacts those who hold these funds, and why it happened.

What Happened?
If you own a Vanguard Target Retirement Fund and you looked at your returns after 12/29/2021 you likely saw a huge drop in the share price. For example, hereโs a screenshot of my brokerage account showing the daily return of the fund VFIFX showing an 11.34% drop.
This fund is made up of just five underlying funds:
- Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares
- Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund Investor Shares
- Vanguard Total Bond Market II Index Fund Investor Shares
- Vanguard Total International Bond Index Fund Investor Shares 1
- Vanguard Total International Bond II Index Fund
A target date fund is just a โfund of fundsโ so it should behave as a weighted average of the underlying funds. But if we look at how those funds fared on the same day, they were all almost perfectly flat, while the target date fund had a huge share price drop.
If the underlying funds were flat, why did the target date fund see a huge share price drop? It was caused by a huge capital gain payout. Basically, fund owners were all paid a large chunk of cash and the share price was lowered to reflect that payment.
An Example of Why This Doesnโt Impact Investment Value
To illustrate this, remember that the growth of your investment value in a mutual fund is comprised of two parts:
- Share Price
- Dividends & Capital Gains
