A list of puns related to "Unwind (novel)"
Mine are Adventure Time, Craig of the Creek and Tuca & Bertie.
Iβm sitting at my desk REELING after the interaction I just had with my neighbour.
So, lately Iβve noticed more lag than usual. Did a little detective work and found A LOT of unusual devices on my wifi. Changed my password and everything was fine.
About 20 minutes later, thereβs a knock at my door. Itβs my neighbour. She said she was having trouble with her internet and asked if she could use my wifi until her issues are resolved. I told the problem I was having with lag and that I was reluctant to give her my wifi password. She looked suspicious but desperate. Sheβs working from home and if she didnt hit some deadlines, sheβd be working through the holidays. So I gave her the new wifi password with the stipulation that if I find any more than one device, Iβm changing the password again.
Literally minutes later my connection is slow as can be. I check the devices and sure enough I have 6 strange devices drawing 99% of my bandwidth. So I change my password again.
Minutes later, sheβs at the door. I asked her if she gave the password to anyone else, she said just her daughter so she can chat with her bf over seas. I then asked her if how long she had been using my wifi, and how did she get the password initially. She got visibly red and angry β what Iβm I being accused of?!,) I said βstealing my wifiβ. She then told me that my wife gave her the password last summer when they first moved in, and said that she could use it until they get their internet set up at the new address. They got their set up a few days later. Everything was fine until their adult son moved in at the beginning of December. βHe has health issues and gets sick if he canβt play online games. He was recently hacked. The hackers messed up our internet connection so bad that our isp disconnected our lineβ
Red flags! I have no idea what her son has been up to, but I doubt that hackers were at fault here. I did not want to be the person to suggest that her son is probably into something more nefarious than online gaming. So, i apologized and said Iβm not comfortable sharing my wifi and that I too am working from home and I canβt have my connection bogged down with FaceTime and online gaming. βWe canβt live without our internet! I have work to do, my son is addicted to online gaming, our teenage daughter goes mental when she canβt connect with her bfβ¦.blah blah blahβ a million reasons why they need my wifi.
I try to bargain βI found six devices that did not belong to me minutes
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm reading the novel, "Unwind", and it reminded me of the Troubled Teen Industry. The premise is that parents can arrange for the government to kidnap and murder their under-18 offspring. The novel follows three teenagers trying to escape this fate.
This is something I have been meaning to start a thread on. I have seen many posts over the years of getting burnt out. Recently somebody posted something and I experienced it myself first hand so I wanted to create a place that others who many experience it can go for somewhere to start getting help.
In Cyber Security we see a lot of stuff, a fair bit of it I would classify as unpleasant, some however can be disturbing. Particularly SOC analysts seem to burn out fast. I saw here once that the average SOC Analyst only lasts two years before they get too burnt out to continue. Blue Team Security often has on call rotations which don't help with the burn out and often you don't just work 9-5. For those in special investigation units, police who may be lurking here or work other high profile cases, it can be draining, disturbing or described as many other things.
So, what do you do to disconnect? How do you unwind when you just cant seem to get work off your mind or you have seen something upsetting? What are some hobbies or things that keep you going?
I hope this doesn't get misconstrued, I hope someone one day can find this helpful as someone who's hobby was computers but can't anymore because its not disconnected from work enough.
PS Mods: The Flair Personal Support & Help should include these types of posts and not remove them telling me to go to a sub for starting Cyber careers.

#Fed Tees Up March Interest-Rate Increase Officials have accelerated plans to unwind support for the economy amid rising inflation

The Federal Reserve held short-term interest rates steady on Wednesday and signaled intentions to raise them in mid-March, the latest turn toward removing stimulus to temper elevated inflation.
βIt will soon be appropriate to raise the target range for the federal-funds rate,β the Fed said in its postmeeting statement.
The central bank approved one final round of asset purchases, which will bring that stimulus program to a conclusion by March. Officials continued deliberations at their two-day meeting over how and when to shrink the Fedβs $9 trillion securities portfolio, which has more than doubled since March 2020. The Fed released a separate one-page statement that spelled out high-level principles to guide that process.
Hi all. Whenever I have some downtime and want to relax I end up feeling guilty that Iβm not doing anything productive. Surely thereβs a paper I can be reading, experiments that need planning, or chores that need doing around the house. But this feeling of always needing to be doing something is exhausting.
I imagine this is a common feeling among scientists and I was wondering if you ever feel the same and if you have any tips for how to disconnect from your work and take time for yourself without feeling guilty.
Well I posted this and went right to bed for some reason. I usually interact more but Iβm just worn down. I really appreciate everyoneβs participation and Iβll definitely incorporate from this thread to my night routine. Thanks so much, l wish you guys all the best in the woooorldπ₯°π₯°π₯°
Iβm a simple man. I like to fish and be near the ocean. My dream is to have a house with a dock. It doesnβt have to be a mansion, seriously, I just want to be able to put a boat in my backyard so I can go out when I choose. My passion for life is animals and when MOASS comes I will do everything I can to help them find loving homes. If not I will buy a property with multiple acres and just hire a few to take care of these selfless creatures. Love you all . Diamond hands baby!
The plot thickened.
My go to is usually to just sit on the couch and have a few drinks and relax. I just feel weird because I don't want to make that a habit. I come from a family of alcoholics, and I've definitely noticed that I look forward to having some drinks in the evening.
So!!! Hit me with all the things you do to relax π¬
I am new to Rust, coming from C++.
A big difference seems to be exception handling. In C++, everything panics (throws) by default. If you're handling multiple clients/states and want to explode the bad ones, this seems like an OK solution, but in general something tells me this might be a code-smell outside of the C++ community?
Rust has type matching and containers seem to return Result<T, E> variants. Is this the Rust way?
Does catch_unwind just exist for completeness or should it be used?
