As many know on November 12, 2021 Dallin H. Oaks gave a speech at the University of Virginia Law School on the topic of religious freedom and LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance.
Prior to his speech the, of the Lambda Law Alliance gathered on the front steps of the School of Law Friday morning to organize against a University-sponsored discussion hosting Latter-day Saints apostle Dallin Oaks.Β However, in addition they attended the speech and were prepared with questions for him. When the question period opened, Haydary asked Oaks to address the electric shock therapy that occurred during his presidency at BYU and his comments from the BYU Hawaii speech, questioning whether he had grown more progressive.
This question drew a flat out false statement from Oaks, when he falsely denied that no electro-shock therapy occurred at BYU during his presidency. This false statement blew up, so to speak, and has been well covered by many pod-casters and other news articles. Less covered was his prevarication regarding his assertion that his BYU-H speech was a "private sermon" not a public statement, as if there is a difference in the church and despite the fact that it is still posted on BYU-H youtube channel for all to watch... https://www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2021/11/school-of-law-event-with-dallin-oaks-draws-protest-from-lambda-law-alliance

Did they invoke a vow of vengeance (in this case the prophet being Oaks) so they decided to call Bronco to be a GA to make a point to the University, and others, what powers and control the church has?
From some news articles here are some of Bronco's statements:
The decision to step down apparently happened rather quickly. Mendenhall said it began Sunday after church services. He said that on the Sunday at the end of the regular season, he asked himself, βWell, what next?β Mendenhall said he began thinking about stepping down and made the final decision late Wednesday. (12/1/2021)
He said two of his children are on Mormon missions and
