A list of puns related to "Tourist Trap"
I know we moan about what is overpriced and underwhelming. But when were you appropriately whelmed?
My family is coming to visit from the US this March. Despite my warnings they booked a hotel right smack in between Piccadilly and Leicester square. While they decide what sites they want to see, they want me to make a list of food places around the area.
Iβm having trouble because I donβt want to throw them in a tourist trap pub and get price gouged, but I still want them to have a nice time. Any suggestions on places in that area that are actually decent?
For example you always hear that places like Robot Restaurant, Golden Gai, Roppongi, or even Akihabara to some people.
What places did you think were still worth visiting?
I'm headed up to Philadelphia in a week or so for business and one of my co-workers is saying that I have to go to Adrian's because it's owned by a legendary former boxing champion and that it's an experience. To be honest, all I know about Rocky Balboa are those old internet memes from the Rocky vs Mason "the Line" Dixon fight all those years ago.
Is it just a pure tourist trap with bad food and held up by fanboys? One of those 'you have to go once' kind of things like eating a cheesesteak at Pat's or Geno's even if they suck? Or is it actually worth making a pitstop for during dinner?
[This is humor, not a rant, I love Vegas as much as the next person]
Took family to a gold mine history tour. It's a neat tourist trap in north Georgia. We also did gem mining.....they said we found a nice sized emerald, a decent sized sapphire and a small ruby.........what gives???? Surely these aren't the same as the ridiculously expensive stones sold in jewelry stores, right? Maybe it is like diamonds? These emeralds and rubies and sapphires are dirt quality clarity, color, etc?
I know there is value in having someone cut and polish them, and then set them in jewelry.
I am considering buying tools to cut and polish the stones myself, as a hobby and a learning experience for kids. If these stones really are precious and valuable, I may buy a real gold setting and have them professionally set.
The gem guy at the mine who offered to cut, polish and set in what he called precious metal (which was actually sterling silver, lol) for about $300-$400 pretended as though these were the same quality gem stones and it was his labor in cutting and polishing them that made the difference in jewelry store prices, π he had the temerity to intimate these stones would be akin to an investment if I were to pay him for his services.......about as sound of an investment as NFTs, π
Thanks for the help.
Any advice on what tools I'll need and the best places from which to aquire them?
My first thought: the boston tea party, a shop by the harbor where you can sip tea and eat sweets while wearing a feathered headdress.
I recently took my first ever trip out of the country and went to Peru.Β The travel advisory for the area warns of possible terrorism/crime.Β During the trip several Peruvians told me it wasn't safe for women to walk alone, that it wasn't safe to use a cell phone in a car with an open window because it could be snatched, that saying no to a robber could get us killed, etc...
The friend who invited me and myself spoke decent enough Spanish to get by, but someone speaking rapidly or switching from basic English to rapid Spanish like the man in this story was difficult to understand.
We got off the plane in Lima at around 1am, and headed outside to find our Uber.
My friend and I are very different people, she acts like she has real life plot armor.Β I have PTSD and am hypervigilant/extremely cautious.
When we stepped outside a man started shouting at us in Spanish and aggressively gesturing to walk away from where we were standing.Β I don't know what she thought, but I thought maybe we were standing in the wrong area and he worked with the airport.Β I quickly changed my mind as he had nothing to suggest that and started snapping 'taxi' at us when he heard us speak English.
My friend explained in English and Spanish that we were waiting for our Uber driver Berto and the man frowned.Β He walked away, my friend stopped paying attention, but I noticed he went to a group of men for a huddle.Β I could make out aggressive snatches of 'uber!Β Uber!Β Berto!'
One of the men broke away dressed in sort of a suit and rapidly approached.Β For this conversation and the rest of our interaction he spoke snatches of English mixed with rapid Spanish.Β He basically started ushering us to the parking area and offered to take my friend's bag.Β I started objecting and she mentioned we were waiting for our uber and he insisted that it wasn't possible for uber to come to the airport, he had to take us outside.Β For some reason my friend rolled with that and let him take her bag and lock it in the trunk.Β I kept pointing out that didn't make sense and we shouldn't get in with him, but she went for it and I wasn't about to be alone in a foreign airport parking lot at 1am with no phone signal.Β Me being me, I took down his license plate before I got into the car and recorded much of the conversation.
He kept the pretense of taking us to the driver and then started intimating he knew our driver, eventually calling him by name, and my friend forgot she told them earlier and bou
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm visiting a friend out of state, and I want to gift them a set of guayavera+sombrero, and the only stores I know are in Calle 8, but they are expensive tourists traps. Can anyone please tell me where else in Miami can I buy them at more affordable prices?
I have seen this film mentioned as something people who like 2005 House of Wax would enjoy. I havenβt read much into it, is it worth the buy as I canβt find it online?
Love the 2005 House of Wax so any films like that are great!
Tourist trap: an establishment that has been created or re-purposed with the aim of attracting tourists and their money. Tourist traps will typically provide overpriced services, entertainment, food, souvenirs and other products for tourists to purchase
I want the best tourist trap, donβt give me good stuff like the St Louis Arch or Statue of Liberty, I want some shady AF roadside attraction in the middle of nowhere!
Hi! I really want to visit Japan and was wondering if there are any landmarks that people say you should go see but theyβre actually overcrowded tourist traps. In Ireland one example is going to kiss the Blarney Stone- everyone says to go do it but itβs 100% a tourist destination and thereβs not a local to be seen for miles. Does Japan have anything like that, and if yes what would be your recommendation for something to visit instead?
I ask because my parents loved the old Windows on the World restaurant at the top of the previous WTC. And recommended I try the new one. Im wondering if itβs worth taking my partner on a date there. Or if thereβs any better top floor restaurants instead.
These are pictures Ikeda took on the various fancy trips he took using the SGI members' money.
From our Donkey Hote bureau (burro):
Taplow Court's imminent collapse - notice this one's on a calendar that the SGI members are expected to PAY for?
Taplow Court again - SOMETHING's gotta be leaning to the left!
Moar Taplow Court - can't really figure this one out. It just looks wrong.
Here's the Nijo-jo again - it leans from different angles
A perennial favorite - the Ponte Vecchio
