On balance, the most people I've met in my life pronounce it "Reediculous". Granted, there are a few that do pronounce it as "rid-iculous", but if you got replace (reeplace, not rid-place) the "i" with "e" it would be a much better outcome.
There are people who would pronounce it like "remember", "regurgitate", "recline" and so forth. There will be those who pronounce it as the "i" in "rid". Like New Zealanders. Regardless ("reegardless") I believe it would reduce the amount of misspelling of this word to a large degree. Thanks for listening!
The word has become very politically charged as of late and carries a certain connotation that is focused toward negative media coverage/stories etc.
I was looking at this wikipedia page and it says that the Oxford Dictionary has over 21,000 pages whereas Websterβs has just over 2,200. I was looking at the books online and Oxford has like 20 volumes and Websterβs only has 1. Yet they both have greater than 300,000 words! (315,000 for Websterβs and 355,000 for Oxford). How can Webster fit that many words into one volume where Oxford needs 20?
What is happening here? Does the Oxford dictionary have way more material or am I missing something?
