A list of puns related to "The Book of Revelation (film)"
I noticed this parallel:
>Rev 6:12-13 When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and there came a great earthquake; the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree drops its winter fruit when shaken by a gale.
Compared to
>Mark 13:28-29: 28 βFrom the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he[a] is near, at the very gates.
OK so it's not an exact parallel, because in Revelation the fig tree is in winter whereas in Mark 13 it is near summer. Maybe I am just seeing patterns that aren't there.
Also Rev 12:1-6
>A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth. 3 Then another portent appeared in heaven: a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born. 5 And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule[a] all the nations with a rod of iron. But her child was snatched away and taken to God and to his throne; 6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand two hundred sixty days.
This seems kinda similar to the Matthean infancy narrative, where a ruler wants to kill the child Jesus, but Jesus escapes to safety.
The gospel had many witnesses and letters are more or less clarifying things that had already been spoken to⦠The Book of Revelation is something far different than the rest of the New Testament and is based solely on what is claimed to be witnessed by one person.
Something easy for the layman. Preferably written by a person of the Christian faith, like a pastor or similar. If they're even a little bit well-known, so much the better.
My elderly father has told me that he has started obsessively reading it. He's zealous and passionate in his faith, which I respect, but I fear he might get a bit carried away with the fantastical imagery. I'm hoping a little bit of context from someone who's professional opinion he'd respect might be good.
If you haven't seen it yet, stop what you're doing and watch it NOW!
I am obsessed and neeeed an age gap romance book with angst and steam and fighting π₯π₯π₯ but without the toxicity.
Something where the FMC feels insecure because she thinks she isn't as mature as him or his friends (bonus points if there's an ex or ow in the friend group and there's jealousyyy involved) and feels out of place. Which leads them to break up...but wait...the MMC is still in love with her years later! gasp
...and they eventually reconcile.
They aren't supposed to be identical, they are adaptations, things need to be changed or removed to make it more suitable for a movie and a short run time. And just becuase it is different from the book doesn't make it bad, just different. It can be a great movie in itself even if it's very different from the book.
There is a lot of emotion around the adaptations of our beloved books, and it pays to always step back and remember ... we will always have the books.
The books will always be the original source; they will always have more detail; they will always be true to the authors vision. Created by the writer and kept alive by the fans, they will remain the original story.
If you're lucky and your favorite book is optioned by an entertainment company, it will usually try to execute on your behalf to earn subscriptions or box office tickets, e.g. Warners/HBO, Netflix, Starz ... even Disney sometimes. Harry Potter was authentic, LOTR was epic, The Hobbit way too long, but they were made for the fans. GOT was excellent until the book material ran out, but even then only skipped across the top of the whole story as written. Dune... say no more. The Dark Is Rising was a sad exception with Fox.
If your favorite book was picked up by a company where entertainment is primarily to market other products then the adaptation is beholden to that funding model and the execution will be a crapshoot. Apple's series come through Apple's 'we are the world' lens; Foundation questions the concept of saving a patriarchal empire from the start. Amazon commissions series for their shoppers, the adaptation of WoT is angled to female shoppers 25-54, it won't you your version... it will be their version through the lens of their funding model. Starz would have done a different version, as would Netflix, and HBO if they were to revisit the space.
It seems counter intuitive as fans to say 'don't get invested', so instead let's go with be invested in the books, love them, support the writers, and treat any adaptation as a possible gift until you see it. If it isn't made for you, you always have the books.
I've made a few comments about this since GRRM made his recent enigmatic blog post and nobody has completely destroyed me as yet so I thought I'd brave making my own post about it.
I once studied theology which has been utterly useless to me in life so I was pleasantly surprised that it might be of use in deciphering information about THE ONE DAMN THING I CARE ABOUT IN LIFE.
When George made the Book of Revelation reference in his 'Alas, Valyria' blog I immediately perceived it to mean one thing and one thing only and was surprised to jump on Reddit and not find any similar beliefs to my own (that I could see). Of course, there's a very high likelihood I'm totally wrong but given there's a small chance I'm not I wanted to put my redundant knowledge of theology to good use for once and share what I believe the meaning of the blog post is.
In simple terms, I believe it means "the end has come."
When I was involved with the church and undergoing my theological studies I generally frowned upon (read: hard eyerolled) people that tried to interpret the Book of Revelation. It's a fool's errand, nobody can truly unpack what all the bizarre prophetic scriptures really mean, it's ridiculous to spend time on it. We all know as fantasy fans that prophecy is a fickle friend and this could not be more true for Revelation, its contents are beyond nutty (it makes Azor Ahai seem like plain speaking.) Trying to figure out how and when the world will end from Revelations has always irked me.
However, as a whole there's no mistaking that the essence of the Book of Revelation overall is basically "the end has come." And the scripture George chose even more so.
The reference was never about the word "hour", that was not the key in that post, there was never going to be anything 'within an hour'. Nor was "18:10" about a date, George wouldn't make it about a date for this type of teaser post, nor would he use UK date format (18 October is also a Wednesday). It would also be a pretty enormous coincidence that such an appropriate piece of scripture would happen to fit his desired date. "Revelation" isn't the operative word either, I don't think he was trying to say "yo ima bout to drop a huge revelation, fooooools, GEDDIT?!"
No, people are getting TOO cryptic. He has chosen the scripture for what it is famous for: "the end has come." That is the widely known purpose of the Book of Revelation and the very black and white meaning of that specific line of scripture.

This excerpt is important as it develops from and leads to critical events during the War of the Beast / Beheading, an absolute clusterfuck of fratricide and incompetence. Despite this, a handful of key individuals manage to hold it together. Veritus held some of the most critical secrets of the 40k Imperium

There has never been a time when it was more necessary to read and understand the Book of Revelation than right now. Each day brings us closer to what the Bible calls "the end of the world."
Warfare, famines, disease, natural disasters, and persecution of Christians are coming, but do you know what to expect? Are you aware of Satan's plans for a global government and new world order? Many today are in the dark about these events when the answers are all in the Bible.
In this scripture-packed series, Pastor Steven L Anderson takes you verse-by-verse through the Book of Revelation, explaining every line and leaving no stone unturned. Brought to you by film-maker Paul Wittenberger, director and producer of After The Tribulation, these 22 sermons will cut through the disinformation and false doctrine and expose solid biblical truth. By the end of this series, you will have a clear understanding of every chapter in the Book of Revelation.

Overall: A quality overview of the Book of Abraham and addressed a lot of the common issues. They noted that the rejected the long-scroll theories of Gee and others and seemed to take a pragmatic and scholarly approach to the project. They talked a lot about translation and that it wasn't translation in the sense that information was being shifted from one language to another. It was basically a creative or revelatory process.
A few of my brief notes:
OPβs notes: Apparently according to a mod, the embargo period of a month is mostly for major releases which are front page stoppers. As such Iβve taken the liberty of posting this to spare /u/ResolverOshawott of having to post the excerpts from her friend (which was me) to interested parties individually in the other thread, and to unite the discussion. Feel free to remove it if it does break the rules.
Context: While pondering about the cycle of aeldari myths, Yvraine's just come upon the pattern hidden within the repetitions that Ynnead is, in a way, the incarnation of Isha, Morai-Heg and Lileath summed. She then gets hyped...before thinking about the effects of that on her journey, herself and others.
>Had she been approaching her task wrong all of this time? She had thought it obvious that her quest was to unite the croneswords and in that moment Ynnead would rise from her slumber to destroy the Great Enemy. But what if the croneswords were the means, not the end?
>She had been known as the Daughter of Shadows. Was she Ynneadβs aspect of the moon, the mortal incarnation of Lileath? If so, then perhaps the keys of Morai-Heg were simply a means to discover the Mother and the Crone.
>Yvraine thought of Eldrad. When he was younger he had been known as the Eye of the Fates Unseen. Such was his power on the skein that the only veil he could not see beyond was death itself. And even that he had tried to pierce, to bring about Ynnead on the sands of Coheria.
>Could he be the Crone? Farseers were cultural descendants of the old priesthood of Morai-Heg, the fate-gatherers that had once acted as oracles in the aeldari dominion. Eldrad himself had been a pivotal force in reshaping that ancient worship into the runelore that had spread through the Asuryani Path. And though he aged, and the crystal curse of all seers grew in his veins, his longevity was remarkable. What the seer dismissed as simply being too stubborn to die perhaps had a more divine root.
>Did he know?
>Yvraine looked at her companions, seeing them afresh with the gaze of this knowledge.
>Meliniel drew her eye, sat on one of the benches with hands clasped in his lap, fully armoured, spear beside him. It was not the autarch that fixated her but the gemstone within his breast. The jewel of Khaine, a symbol that Meliniel was now host to the Warshard, Kaela Mensha Khaineβs greatest avatar, bearer of the actual blade Anaris that had slain Eldanesh.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Back when I was a YEC, which included all of high school, one of the only books in the Bible I had read back all the way through was Revelation. Sure, looking back now, everything in it is 100% bat-shit insane, but back then it was my favorite book! So much violence and apocalyptic imagery. Admittedly, as someone who grew up watching action & horror movies, I loved that shit!
But it went deeper than that. I spent way too much mental energy every day trying to interpret it. When will the End Times happen? Have they already started? What will the 7 trumpets sound like? Who are the 4 horsemen? Who are the 144,000? What will the mark of the beast look like. Is the dragon Satan? What do his 7 heads & 10 horns represent? How the hell do you divide 10 horns among 7 heads? Who are the Beast and the False Prophet? What does the whore of Babylon represent? And what in the flying fuck is happening in Revelation 9 & why do these locusts have human faces???
Was anyone else here as crazy as I was?

>It pretends to be a history of the coming of a small colony, two or three families, from the city of Jerusalem, led by the hand of the Lord. They built a ship by the command of the Lord, and were guided by his hand across the ocean; they landed on the western coast of South America, about six hundred years before Christ; and after that they worked their way up towards the narrow strip of land we call the Isthmus, and founded settlements and, finally, about fifty years before Christ, sent forth their colonies into the north wing of the continent, which we call North America, and in process of time the whole land became peopled and overspread with millions of people. The Baβalaket were actually promised Venus as a reward for good work during the Tribulation period!
This is more proof that our scriptures are also written as adminishions and testimonies for these βangelicβ and βdemonicβ aliens species!
From my correspondence with RD.
Garbotalk: I'm re-reading Revelation as you asked and had a question about Revelation 2.
The seven angels at the seven churches referred to in Revelations 2, are these different alien species? Is the angel of Thyatira Ba'alaket? Was Jezebel a Ba'alaket? He promises they would rule over the nations and also be given the morning star...Venus, "to the one that is victorious and does my will to the end." Is this prophesy for the Ba'alaket?
18Β βTo the angel of the church in Thyatira write:
These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.
20Β Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
24Β Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satanβs so-called deep secrets, βI will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.β
26Β To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nationsβ 27 that one βwill rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like potteryββjust as I have received authority from my Father. 28 I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
