A list of puns related to "The Admirable Crichton"
Heβs got a 0.00 spring training ERA, having shut the door in the 9th against the Dodgers this week, with a K and two groundouts. Not fucking bad for a literal seven year-old!
He went from normal hair to spikey gel hair and KA D'argo has a change in skin color to a more darker color.
Anyone know why?
Any other of his adaptations was as successful as JP?
It doesnβt have to be part of the same universe as the movie canons, it could be its own universe! It will be a fresh change and you can be completely original with it while faithful to the source material.
Iβve never read a Crichton book so Iβve been searching for info on him through Reddit (what his writing style is like, which books are best according to some).
What are your thoughts?
Unfortunately, I browsed Reddit a little carelessly and learned the endings to sone of his books. (Marked spoilers ahead). For example, for CONGO, >!that they escape in a balloon at the end and a volcano erupts and the story just suddenly ends through these events!< I also learned that in ANDROMEDA STRAIN >!the virus in the story suddenly mutates into a non-lethal or less dangerous form!< Iβm still looking forward to reading these and other Crichton books but I still wish I hadnβt found out how they conclude.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on his work? Whatβs your favorite Crichton novel?
Another question...Has anyone since Crichton followed in his footsteps and added bibliographies to their sci-fi?
EDIT: I hope to see more replies but I just want to say thanks to everyone for the interesting responses so far and for bearing with me and all my questions, etc.
It may not be Crichton's most celebrated work but I loved the book. It had intrigue, suspense, humor, wit, and emotion. I also loved how it was riddled with historical facts and how it impacted the story( the Indian rebellion, the London fair, the Crimean war etc.)
The characters were well written with very clear motivation for the actions they do. Also the British society in the Victorian era was fascinating to read.
I have read Crichton years ago ( Jurassic Park, prey, next, sphere, and timeline) but forgot how great his books are.
I got five of his books and planning to go on a Crichton binge starting with Rising sun.
Just an appreciation thread for the book The Great Train Robbery and the late Michael Crichton. Tell me your favorite parts of the book and why do you love the book.
His name comes up quite frequently as an example of a blank check auteur in literature, but I think that his directorial work stands out enough for him to have a mini-series.
He debuts with Westworld, which is a passion project that doubles as a summation of his work. Coma in 1978 was a big hit(supposedly a $50 million box office vs a 4~6 million dollar budget). We get another passion project with The (First)Great Train Robbery, and total garbage in the 1980's like Looker and Runaway. The conclusion is for his work on re-shooting The 13th Warrior, which gives a nice cross-over with the infamous John McTiernan in one of Hollywood's most famous flops.
He might not as influential as someone like Michael Mann when it comes to cinematography, but the use of CGI in Westworld and Looker is worth noting. There's also his role in creating the medical drama ER.
I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned before, but I think he's at least worthy of popping up in a March Madness competition(even if Griffin and David never actually cover him)
You hear advice that tells you to not care what ppl say and don't be afraid to make a fool out of yourself at...say....badly singing in front of people because people will admire your confidence.
But then there's this super nerdy guy trying to do a (rather poorly written and executed) rap Kevin-G style for the school talent show and gets laughed at. Or a girl who decides to take the chance to be vulnerable and shares a personal story while at dinner with friends and is met with awkward silence.
These are real situations and...I just don't understand it...My guess is that the guy wasn't attractive, or the girl wasn't already popular. Idk I'm at a loss. Someone please tell me why ppl are so nice to some and so decidedly mean to others in the exact same contexts.
10 seconds is enough. 15 seconds is pushing it. 30 seconds and you can fuck right off.
Sick of seeing videos of dad's coming home from the military and hugging their kids and sad music plays and all that nonsense.
That person is a bad parent, stop portraying it like a positive happy thing.
If you wanna serve your country, don't have obligations and responsibilities to other people. It's selfish. Get a 9-5 and be there for your kids like the rest of us.
You aren't a hero or a good role model, and society needs to stop treating you as such.
